Can regular carbide inserts be used to machine a ball feature like this? And what insert shape would be optimal for this operation?

Hi Tim Le, so I think yes but carbide inserts needs to be small at the tip like the mine on the video. This tool I have used on the video is made by myself, is spherical and have 0.7 mm width. I think that triangular insert tools can works well for this operation as well.

Hi Luiz, your custom cutter looks like it works very well. I think I've seen it can do both contour turning and cut-off (parting). How often do you have to re-sharpen it? Thanks

Hi Tim Le, I thank you for you reply, So, this is a very hard material and sharpened using diamond wheel, so depending on the case don't need re-sharpen, only when used on stainless steel or other hard material like steel, then for Aluminum, Brass, Soft steel really don't need re-sharpen with frequently, so vare worth

Oi amigo, eu até dou dou cursos rápidos de CNC bem direto ao assunto quando me sobra algum tempo, porem ultimamente ando bastante ocupado com um novo empreendimento de fabricação. Infelizmente não criei material didático ainda, mas essa é uma ideia que não esta descartada devido a grande procura. Hi Donnie, I'm using the DB25 parallel port, about the electronic system I'm using original Sherlines Driver Box and their Servos too. The original Sherline drivers and step motors works very well. Old desktop computer with parallel port works perfectly whit mach3 software and with low cost in my opinion. It is all I'm using here in my six Sherline machines.
