Thank you for sharing this video Tara. I really miss seeing Apollo, so now I've had my "fix". lol. Your relationship with him is so wonderfully shown in the free rein work. I've always felt Apollo was so sweet natured, and this video shows it perfectly. I love to see that 'rocking chair' collected canter. He looks so regal when he performs it. Your training has made him the horse he is today. Done with love and respect, which he returns fully.

Whoo Hoo ! I really enjoyed Apollo's training half pass and your voice-overs, explaining your signals, Tara. To see his movement from stop into collected canter , that rocking horse leap , is like something from a fairytale … and from canter to stop, in one stride is amazing. It looked so smooth , like it didn't stress you at all. Your reinless " play", using only leg and visual clues is very cool . He's paying attention , soon you'll be at canter, throw out your arms and know what it feels like to flyyy ! ;-)

Very well done on showing the importance of all the excersizes. And having beginnings of these at six and at any level. Most dressage people here teach the excersize only when it's in the dressage test at the level they ride not because they are beneficial excersize FOR the horse. I hope you don't mind me having some pointers for the reinless steering. Try not to look at the ground, it dips your shoulder where you want the horse to lift the shoulder to make the turn. Also remember to use/turn your seatbones and not just your upper body. I always learn by watching others so thank you for sharing. Apollo is so responsive and its wonderful to watch you train him!

Very interesting video, it lets me learn the English vocabulary for some dressage techniques! Also, I love the visual difference between Appolo's rocking canter, while Farouk, like a typical Arabian, seems to canter lightly on the tip of his feet!

Unruly Crow, I was thinking the same thing, about a Western saddle, but as Tara rode Apollo, I realized that her saddle was plenty enough, and that a Western saddle might get in the way of us seeing what she was doing!

Giggle of the day goes to Ike's overseeing you two are doing things correctly! LOL Pats & dog treats. He has such a stern teacher's look that little one, which is what made it even more funny. You can clearly see what Steve was talking about when Apollo lunged on him that one time to chase after you and Farouk in this video. Those back legs just dig right in the ground for the push off. Thank you Tara, that was wonderful to see. Now all you have to teach him is to bow at the end of his videos, instant superstar. lol

One of my favorite videos. I've really missed watching you and Apollo together in a lesson, you have such a bond, and he is so willing, responsive and intelligent. As you've posted this older video, do you no longer spend time with Apollo like this since you gave him to Rens? You mentioned you only take him out for a gallop twice a week, do you miss jumping him and "playing with him" ? It was Apollo that attracted me to your channel (and you of course, of course!), but sorry to say, I don't have the same enthusiasm for Farouk, so lately I've wandered off. Not sure if you plan to post more of these videos, but am sure hoping you do :) xx

A perfect example when riding of the saying "Where the rider's head turns, the horse's body will follow". Sometimes in a negative way if one looks too much at the ground. 🙄 When Apollo comes to a stop, it is such a beautiful sight of horse and rider as one.

@Tara1015 жыл бұрын
I have never ridden a quarter horse, we don't have many in the UK
@shelleyandcritters8415 жыл бұрын
Friesians are much bouncier than Quarter Horses, which tend to be smoother. Friesians have very big movements.

Ohhh okay. So you'd have to be more experience with fresians to be comfy?

@@jasminealmond8501 yeah I'd say so. Knowing how to post at the trot would be helpful. It also seems, and this is just from my experience of riding one Friesian vs tons of Quarter horses in my life, that Friesians are more forward going. Now that's not to say there aren't forward going Quarter horses, especially those that raced or did things like barrels, etc. But overall Quarter horses tend to be a bit more laid back and even lazy (again just a generalization) vs Friesians who have more get up and go.
