As a horse nerd, the mule description was fairly accurate. They are the cross between a female horse and a male donkey. Mules are to our knowledge sterile but there is some mules 😳 who think otherwise. The cross between a male horse and a female donkey (which is rare) is called a Hinny. Not to be confused with a Jenny (female mule). But most are probably familiar with a male mule (a jacka$$). They are pack animals but can be rode and also driven (carts and carriages). They have bigger ears and heads than horses but other than that they are the same size as horses.

Fun fact regarding meats having different names to the animals in English: it comes from when the Kings & Queens of England spoke a lot of French (Norman Conquest etc.) and so when they were presented the prepared meats to eat, they would use the French words, so boeuf became beef, mouton became mutton etc. Meanwhile the farmers who dealt with the animals would say cow, sheep, etc.

If you've really said it so many times I'm sure someone's already told you, but Dimension 20's "A crown of candy" is a great blend of grim and dark fantasy with candyland-style and other food people. It's more "politics-dark" than "creatures-dark" but there's some food monsters you'd probably enjoy.
