Gorgeous! I think for bounding purposes, the yellow overgown naturally lends itself to being paired with cigarette pants and a 50s top to make a "hostess pajamas" style outfit. I also see it as part of a 20s style boho outfit. I think it would be lovely paired with indigo or dark brown pieces.

A lot of costubers make a modernly wearable outfit based off of only one period, could you do a "picking all my favorite fashions" and putting them into a single outfit? Like maybe the cape thing from the 1700's and the high waist from the regency and the uber sleeves from the victorian, and the lace insertion/pintucks from the edwardian or whatever pieces from each period you like and make them into one "modernly wearable" outfit?

This video is just perfect! :) I started sewing recently and mostly make historical garments then worn as cottagecore clothes (e.g. Bernadette's pirate shirt). This tactic is just amazing for people who like fashion history but don't have occasions to wear costumes (like me).

Really adorable! I love re-thinking what you already have! I recently (intentionally) dropped 55 pounds. I'm now embarking on a project to refit all my clothes. I will donate a lot but plan on pulling apart seams on many pieces and refitting them to my new silhouette. When all else fails, I do a lot of color blocking. I loved this video to give me ideas about how to reshape pieces and use pieces differently than before. I have plenty of thread. I do NOT have plenty of money to replace an entire wardrobe! I love that you’re creating such cute outfits to show off all your beautiful handmade clothing. The history bounding trend kind of reminds me of being a little girl and playing dress-up with my grandmother’s old clothes (vintage 1940’s clothing, and earlier). We’d put on fashion shows for her and my mother. It appeals to not only my current aesthetic preferences, but to my inner child who loved to dress up.

The outfit you’re wearing in the intro (at least the bodice) reminds me of bunads/Scandinavian folk costumes, which are typically based on late 18th or early 19th century clothes, especially with the blouse/shirtwaist underneath. To strengthen the association, a brooch with dangly discs of shiny metal at the top of the neck slit would be a lovely addition.

Honestly, that yellow over-gown outfit that semi-defeated is (to me) very reminiscent of the "pirate" styles used in Old Hollywood swashbucklers, especially with the headwear (which is very Maureen O'Hara from Against All Flags). Since I grew up watching those films, it makes me feel quite nostalgic, so I love it. But I can well imagine having a difficult time pairing it with other styles! Love this video, want more dressing ups. The yellow kirtle thing is superb. Lovely to wear frequently. I draft, I sew, I created magical joy but have felt dragged down by current ordinariness of fabrics and fashion, and having moved to Melbourne the tyranny of the dark city, the polyester black, and the sneering at my colours my hats and fashion joy, amusement, when I arrived here has let me keep myself down. You are inspiring me to freedom. Thank you Nicole, so glad you are doing these videos and your generosity of spirit. Women’s sewing, hand stitching, pattern making is a wonderful dimension, like women’s secrets, the wonder of taking 2 dimensional fabric with hand, bias and fall and producing things to fit a and harmonise, flatter and 3 dimensional body with movement is so skilled. I remember in The Devil Wears Pravda, the moment when her friends were big noting their skills in making a roux sauce or the exhibition of black and white photos of others architectural design built with skill and pain by yet others, and who ridiculed fashion, colour, clothing. I had in 1999 years before, Drafted and sewn for myself and made in dark green silk dupion an outfit identical to what she wore at the height of her success, with the little peplum and the dressmaker sleeves with gathered cap. I wore it to a formal dinner and all the women in pastel showing flesh stared at me constantly.
