It crossed my mind to wonder if Trent's pilot experience has informed his wildfire-fighting preparations. When a pilot has an emergency, s/he gets back to the ground safely on their own quick thinking and initiative. No one can help you up there, only after you've come down.

Hey Trent... I live in SE Ohio and have a 3/4 acre pond. I highly recommend a small aeration system on a timer for 6-12 hrs daily ( preferably at night ). No stagnant water or mosquitos and probably the only way your fish will survive. Pond dye is also recommended to control algae. A small fountain will aerate and would work for the size of pond you have. Looks awesome brother! Have fun , Blue Skies!

Awesome... Hind sight is always 20/20... At least twice as deep in a couple of areas with some large rock -mounds for the fish to live, hide and spawn. A friend of mine dug a 5-ish acre 'pond' on his property (yes it took months and a LOT of dirt was excavated). It's 9-12 Ft. deep in a couple of areas with dirt-mounds that come up almost to the surface, then he laid (large) fallen trees on those mounds. It's truly amazing how much the water level rises and falls with/without rain (up/down 2-3Ft regularly and as much as 5-7+ Ft over the years). There are times when the logs are completely covered with water and other times when the logs and 3Ft of the mounds are above the water... Lots of brim, catfish and bass but since it's so big (and doesn't have a liner), the water is never clear like yours...

Nice landscaping. It is also a good defense in depth against brush fires. You have a sprinkler system so if a fire comes you can turn on the sprinklers and that and the pond is the water defense for your house. Your paver patio really looks better than a concrete slab.

For a larger pond capacity, for fire fighting, you could build a dam down the hill, connect the two with pipes if you wanted to. If it was large enough you might even attract some choppers wanting to dip buckets in your dam if needed (and land for lunch, if needed!). 👍😀⭐️

you need a well monitor.. and check the well level logs before and after sprinkling the lawns.. lawns in a desert take a lot of water and the well levels might start to drop.. most important ... you don't want the well /aquifer to run out of water.. had that happen at our place over at the foot of mount pinos.. had a 220 foot cased well.. new neighbor put in a 400 foot well and a massive lawn.. soon our well was dry.. and our well was about 1/4 mile from his..

Trent, I live in a suburb of Tucson, Arizona. When we built our retirement home, we put in a small pond with a four drop waterfall and surrounded it with real grass. With out a doubt the best idea ever. We surrounded it with queen palms and tropical plants. Yes, it is work to maintain and water intensive but the peace and beauty it gives is priceless. What fish did you stock it with? We just threw in a few feeder goldfish (they are red orange, not gold) and have raised a batch of babies every year. They have proven to be bullet proof. Just watch out for cranes and herons. They can clean out a pond in just a couple days. Absolutely love the property. Now, get on that hangar!

Most house fires cause by wildland fires are due to embers landing on the roof. Installing small sprinklers on your roof to keep it wet when the fire comes close will help (save) your house. I was told this by a Natural Resource Officer that went to a forest fire out in BC Canada were the fire ran thru a sub division where all houses except one burn to the ground. The one house lived because the owner put sprinkles on his roof. He kinda regret it after because he had to live in an ash pit till all his neighbors got brand new houses with the insurance money. lol But in your case out in the country setting, it would be well worth every effort to save it. Hope this info can help or give you ideas. Stay safe and Keep Flying!!! Love your videos.

Trent! your home is really looking cool! Great job! As you are in a fire hot spot how about developing a fire hose system around your property . Should fires reach your property line, say 250 meters from your front lawn, side laws and or back lawn this system can be turned on spraying the entire diameter /circumference of your property line thus securing your home. You could go further and have sprinklers positioned towards your home and roof to keep your home cool and safe should fires breakthrough your property line. You may need to build under ground water tanks as reservoir's connected to your water lines so that you have continuous water flow in your tanks.

Weeping pipe for grass will be less loss to atmosphere. Get sprinklers put on poles for value protection. You put them at the peaks of the roof run them off your pump at pond. It helps create a micro climate at the house. Works well in fire with more fuels than you have

A couple of things to consider for your wildfire trailer(if you don't all ready have them) is either a 2 1/2" floating strainer or 2 1/2" low level strainer to use with it. They will help when drafting out of the pond more so than a barrel strainer. I also like that you added more defensible space around your house. Keep up the good work!

No substitute for real grass. A relative of mine had their house spared from a wildfire with a sprinkler system that sprayed outwards around the home. Pretty simple setup but needed a lot of pressure. They sprayed about 30ft and were situated around the house. After the fire went through and destroyed other homes nearby-theirs was the only one standing that still had any vegetation and landscaping. The other homes that survived were just surrounded by black. Your defensible space looks great-combined with the design of your home and the pond/sprayer you are in great shape!
