My house was originally built in 1900 and was added on to a couple times. I've got shingles and tar paper between some walls, a crazy looking axe-cut beam that was salvaged from a barn or something, and one doorway (only one) that's only 6'. People used what they had available and made stuff up as they went, which seems unthinkable today.

You saved so much time by having the finishes in the kit. It’s also hard to change anything on a kit. @sabriath4 жыл бұрын
@@almestad6702 ... I think what he means by "burn" is the fact that these kits are overly priced materials above the grade you would get if you sourced them warehouse on your own, the fact that it says on their website that it "works with contractor to set pricing" tells me that if you don't work with the contractor, they will actually hit you with an even higher fee versus a contractor who would hit you with an even greater fee.....either way, you are paying for it. Just by eye, I price this home to be about 50,000 or less in parts, just have to pay for labor, permit, and certification passing, but I'm sure that they will charge well over 150k.

Generally you get a construction to permanent loan. For the time agreed by you, and the bank there is no mortgage due. The bank gives you the funds to build, and you give them to the contractor/builder. You as the owner/borrower have to manage the money, and distribute it as only needed. People get ripped off when they give the builder all the funds at once. Never do that. Think of yourself as the bank, and the builder as the borrower. Your ONLY going to give him what he needs at that specific time. You have to either finish the build early, or on time. Either way, as soon as you reach completion, you contact the bank, and you negotiate (usually an already promised, or somewhat ball park figure of the interest), and you roll into a permanent loan. Whether that be a 30 yr fix, or whatever. I owned some land for a few yrs., then finally built a home on it. I kinda went through the same experience as in this video.

At some point my wife and I might build a custom home because I rarely see the type of home I want for sale, which is basically a big rectangular metal building that is mostly garage and a small apartment on one end. I want to start by saying that you alls home looks amazing. For California prices when it comes to homes, it’s extremely reasonable. That exact home would probably be about a third of the cost in Texas but Texas is starting to overprice construction of homes in the metropolitan areas just like California has always done. I looked up material costs between the two states and it’s identical and the labor costs are about 13% higher overall in California, which means the builders are making a killing off people in California for new construction homes. Enjoy your magnificent home guys. You’ve earned it and it really does look amazing.

He said during the video. $185,000 for the kit. But after all was said and done they spent $550,000 not including cost for property... They have a really nice place but I can tell you from where I live you can get a much bigger house for half a mil

everyone bitching that this isn't affordable lol. in CA thats a 2 to 3 million dollar home. 550K is a bargain. also if his land was build ready it would have been about 300K, Trent spent 50K alone on just drilling for water. let alone getting electricity out there which was probably even more. the kit itself is 225K in the state that Trent got it. with it finished and done (without furniture) it was 300K at the most. houses near me in CA are 900K for 1/7th acre and 1800 Sq. ft. This is absolutely an affordable house.
@sherryl13974 жыл бұрын
This is definitely affordable to me! In San Francisco bayarea, a 1200 sqft shack on 5000 sqft lot would cost 1.2+ million!

A $200 sq/ft home in Texas is somewhere NFL players would live. A "nice" home near me is $100-125 sq/ft. 250K will get you a pretty nice pad here.

Most people don't realize how cost effective it is to bury things deep in the ground. Also if you want to save money on AC costs build the house into the side of a hill Geothermal energy is so underrated.

@@UMepher Don't put words in my mouth man. I didn't say anything about needing a large kitchen just because you have a Duggar size family to feed. I'm just saying that most people build these huge ass, amazing kitchens and they just sit dormant or are not even used. People are showy. You can entertain plenty of people and don't need a huge fancy kitchen. I doubt they do any cooking in there at all.

It really looks amazing! Similar to my wifes taste, we're currently looking to build a home. I had one question. Not many people talk about it but is having well for water an issue? Smell, coloring, the feeling. I've heard good and bad. But on OLDER homes. We love having the idea of being AWAY from a neighbor. But that entitles the water supply to be different.
@romanomatic8673 жыл бұрын
My mother in law has had a well for over 30 years, she lives out in the countryside of California. The water is very clean, looks a little odd (like white particles) the first time you see it cause it is full of minerals apparently, and after it settles it looks just fine. Tastes great by the way. There are no other smell or coloring issues... I honestly prefer her water over the water we filter in the city. But it may also depend on what your location is. Hope that helped.
@debbiemichellecenterfitt85823 жыл бұрын
From personal experience, well water is the way to go. After the sediment settles down it is just as clear as you would have in the city with a much better taste. You don't have all of the hard chlorine smell and taste... Plus your fixtures will appreciate that as well. The only thing you will have to consider is how deep you need your well because if you have farmers around you they will dig wells to water their crops with so you want to make sure it is deep enough to continue giving you water sufficiently during those prime crop season months.
