The purple bottles always look terrific. The oldest clear codd bottles etc found in WA become a deep purple colour through prolonged exposure to the sun. Great to see you look for coins, relics and bottles when metal detecting Luke.

They are so cool looking o ce the turn purple @Luke Clatworthy and much more interesting to look at than the standard clear, like most bottles are. Just a shame it takes so damn long for them to turn a deep dark purple...especially here in Vic😄 Cheers heaps for watching mate, really glad you enjoyed!

if you happen to have a blacklight(UV light) could you please tell me if these still glow green, or does the color of the glow change as well? You can also use a UV light to test for manganese, you don't have to look for a purple hue.

You may have already mentioned it, and ive missed it, will the bottle's remain colored once they are removed from the sunlight for a long period of time or is it permanent? Cheers!

I am so glad you enjoyed watching and learning @David it's such a fascinating process how the manganese and UV sunlight turns these old bottles purple. I have had them on the shed roof for a good 7 months now and they are nearly all completely purple🤩 I will have to film and share another update on them very soon! Thanks so much for the Sub to David, I really appreciate it mate. There are quite a few videos and fun adventures on my channel, I hope you enjoy watching them also🤝 Cheers heaps👍⛏️

I'v been told the the different colors of the old glass is because of where in the world thay got the sand for the glass war also changed where they could get the sad in some cases
@DigItDetecting7 ай бұрын
The process of the glass turning purple @Stephanie G is actually due to a chemical they added in called Manganese. By adding Manganese to early 1900s glass, glass makers were able to change the colour of glass, from green and blue etc to clear glass. This is how they were able to make clear type design bottles so early on. Later it was found though that exposure to UV light created a chemical reaction in the Manganese and the glass turns purple over time. This process was discovered and happening well before WW1 & WW2. I have another video to share next week showing the intensity of the bottles on the roof and just how deep purple they are now after 12 months exposure. I also explain a little more on this process🙂 Stay tuned for more next week.
