Her smoke isn't stinky she is. It's a reference to Red pandas having really strong scent glands. They'll even use these glands to display predators kind of like a watered-down version of what skunks do. So basically she turns into a big fluffy teddy bear, that smells a little bad

The fact that so many people are pissed off and critical that this movie is “inappropriate” for children is just bonkers to me. This was one of the sweetest, most wholesome movies and such an accurate depiction of what was like to be a 13 year old girl and it gave me all the feels 🥺💕

It's not inappropriate, but it has too many euphemisms about wrong morality, which many parents (almost anyone with basic decency) don't want their children to have. Yet it is marketed as children's movie

I would just say this movie is too _"inappropriate"_ for those adults who don't know any better, because they were brought up on that kind of poor mentality, and think subjects like generational trauma, and especially puberty and coming of age which seems to be on their _"taboo"_ list. It's like they never had a childhood and don't remember what it was like to be 13 and their puberty starting. I personally loved the movie so much, I understood the premise of the story and what it was trying to get at.

i think there is a valid reason why mei's mother blamed mei's friends before mei. her whole life she's seen mei as the perfect child to the point where that's all she could see, to make up for the fact that she couldn't be for her own mother. Sha blames everyone else around her her because she can't see past her vision of mei

Talking about the concert tickets, this is set in 2002, so largely before the internet was widespread. Tickets still would've gone pretty quickly, but not as fast as they would today.

This is legit because love that they made a movie dedicated to the coming of age. Because they need to have their story shared too plus .We all have our struggles in our teen and young adult years and. Also when it comes to pressure and high expectations fron family and everyone around us.But we are all above that and we just need to be reminded .Of our worth and to know we can and will rise above each day and love our best lives no matter what .But facts are kids grow up and go through the hormones so this was on point .

Btw, yes it actually is about getting her period. The jokes weren't coincidental.. Gross red monster. The way she's walking stiffly when she's in her bedroom? I can confirm that's how we walk when we're trying not to move too much to prevent...an "accident". "Prevent any accidents." Curling up in the fetal position because it hurts. You can even make a case for the extreme emotions thing, cause a lot of us can attest that extreme emotions tend to make it...worse, let's say. And the friends neutralizing the panda? A way to show that having friends around to help you through it when you have an "accident" can make it less embarrassing.

I think it could be interpreted like that but i also like the plot/ message about becoming your own person despite what is expected of you but still honoring your family, since that was so important to her. Like in the beginning she said that you can lose yourself in the "honor your parents" idea and you forget to honor yoursef. She stood up for herself and is more independent but her mom and her found a way to still have a good relationship. I think its also about generational trauma too and how her mom made her go through the same pain of high expectations/ strictness she did as a kid without realizing it. And its about breaking that cycle which is present everywhere but is common in this way in asian or kids w immigrant parents households.

I think it's a metaphor for puberty as a whole. It's a "gross red monster" (periods), stinky (body odor), hairy (body hair), and caused by her emotions (hormonal changes). It's just that periods are the most obvious sign of female puberty, as well as the most socially taboo, so the period jokes were the best.
