You got ripped off at $100. The original motherboard and CPU is only worth like $40 dollars. You could of had a 4th gen i5 optiplex SFF for $100 instead. They still aren't the best deals since you are stuck with low profile cards. You could have spent that extra money on a new system. A case with a more modern motherboard, CPU, RAM and power supply is just a bit over $200 used and you are then open to a selection of better and more affordable graphic cards. My point is upgrading an SFF isn't the smartest thing to do on a budget these days. Build new or just get a full size optiplex instead.

I found a basic HP desktop with i5-4590, 8gb ram, and 500gb hdd for $50. First PC ever, did some research and found 1050ti was my best option as my PC has a proprietary psu. Dug some more and found it can actually take a 1650 which is a significant leap over the 1050ti. So I bought the 1650 (gddr6 version) for $160 on Amazon right before chip shortages and price increase took place. I since upgraded to 16gb of ram and a 250gb satta SSD. For $250 total I have a pretty competent machine. Even capable of very minor VR games like VRchat. Been that way for a year now. My buddy actually found an old i7-4770 in storage and it's actually compatible with my motherboard so I'm going to upgrade to that shortly which will see even a bit more performance. I'm shocked foreal. It's It's great machine for $250

When my best friend's PC died on them, I bought an Optiplex 780 with a i5-2400 for cheap off eBay, tore it down, gave it a good clean and a coat of spray paint or three. I chucked in a low profile GTX 1050 (back when they were MSRP), scrounged around for 12GB of RAM, and velcroed an SSD inside as the bootdrive. It was meant to be a temporary gaming PC while we got a brand-new build sorted so I tried to spend as little as I could. That was over 3 years ago and it's still going lol. My friend mainly plays GTA Online and The Sims 4 and it's still fine in both of those games. They remove the side panel while gaming to keep temps down which definitely helps. It was a fun little tinkering project for me with bigger than expected payoff in terms of lifespan, and I have massive respect for any Optiplex builds/mods as a result lol

2 possible solutions to avoid overheating: 1) leave the case open, it should lower temperature real well. 2) leave the case open AND buy an external PCIe card holder with PCIe 16x cable, to relocate the gpu in a favorable position. In this case, it will run a lot cooler!

One nice thing about these low-profile cards is they are super easy to “Noctua fan mod”. The biggest reason to do this is none of the low-profile cards have “Zero-RPM Mode”. My Zotac Low Profile 1650’s MINIMUM fan speed is 40%!!! To fix this fan noise issue, I strapped two 60mm Noctua fans on with zip ties. It’s nearly silent at 100% fan speed and runs cooler at full load (fan speed only goes to like 50% when the GPU is at 100% now). I got a VGA fan adapter thing (2pin -> 4 pin Y-Cable), so both Noctua fans are controlled by the GPU fan header! I love it lol.

Dell and Intel have been surprisingly good options (but only at key moments in time, such as Ireland) for components to go into mboards (even mboards bare in features) which are not made in the orient (like LAN NICs), and almost we had intel to be made here in the British Isles (but recently they have told us to sod off). Intel have iGPU on the CPU which can do virtualisation and are about as powerful as an nvidia 1030 (but sometimes with more RAM for video). It's their iGPU which makes them worth it _(even though many people slag it off, wrongly comparing it to powerful GPU cards)._ Were it not for that, I'd have preferred some sort of open-power thing instead (IBM). ARM (like USB) has been a massive pain in the arse but you simply have to know how to use it and live with it. Now ARM seems to be going, OpenPower is a very good option. Power-saving can wait.

I brought that unit recently except since it came with an i3 for $40 and that was because it had no hard drive and ram. I ended up upgrading memory to 8GB, 500GB HD and stuck in a Nvidia 210 and ended up being under $100. My only issue was it came with some bottle necking due to i3, but did find some units that came with i5 I hope to snag someday and have been aiming for those GTX 1050 ti or 1650 low profile ones.

I have this exact pc, though I have the Optiplex 7010 with the big case, it got the i7 3770 and 16gb with 4 sticks of ram. I stuck a rtx 3060 in it. It runs really well in most games. The games I tested are Minecraft Java, GTA V, BeamNG Drive and Minecraft Bedrock RTX. It does struggle with GTA on very high settings, mostly due to the cpu. BeamNG Drive can play on the highest settings at 55-60fps. And Minecraft Java can run and med to high settings at 60fps with shaders. Bedrock with rtx can run at 60fps with high settings. It is a really solid pc.

I've got a 7010 with an i5 3570 in it. It only supports 16gb. And, the pcie16 socket is rated at only 50w despite being 3.0. While people do put 75w cards in it, it does both cripple any card that uses 75w, and stresses the board and psu. The gt 1030 gddr5 is honestly the strongest yet safest gpu you can use indefinitely. The PSU is a very uncommon/rare/really only made for oem's called LFX, which has different length and height from TFX as looking at it from the back of the pc. Also, I'm not absolutely certain, but I'm pretty sure they swapped a couple of pins in the 24 pin connector around as well, but if you happen to find an LFX psu with more wattage, then you likely could just use a molex pin remover and swap the pins around as needed, but good luck finding an LFX psu in the wild for anything other than the computers they're designed for (they typically have proprietary power connectors).

Dirt 4 and Fallout 4 in FHD with highest settings run very smooth too. Cs Go in FHD with maxed settings runs always between 200 and 300 FPS! I became the PC for 0€ and the GB 1050ti OC costs me 60€. Same!! @@TTBUG dude, amazing. The 4770 will get you to 4 cores / 8 threads. (Your i5 is only 4cores). This will give you a good uplift in more modern games - because the GPU isn’t waiting for the CPU so much. Many people who don’t know what they’re talking about say that the power supply can’t take all this extra stuff, but that’s rubbish. Mine is going strong. Phil of Phil’s computer lab (KZbin) has a video with a similar setup, and found around 150w at the wall. I’ve cut a hole in the case above the CPU fan, and temps have gone down 10 degrees. My 1650 is on the x4 PCIE slot (the short one) - but I’ve compared many benchmarks, and it’s between 5-10% difference in most games. So not a problem! Happy days! 🤓👾👍

Maybe also replacing that case fan with something better like a Noctua one (although they aren't the cheapest), and definitely ditching that DVD drive, which could help improve airflow and temperatures inside the case... :)

For Cyberpunk, setting crowd density to low and slow HDD mode on (even if you use an SSD, since what this seems to do is reduce draw distance) also helps a bit with FPS. And also ray-tracing to off if you have a GPU that supports it but that's irrelevant with a 1050 Ti. Ray-tracing eats a fair bit of CPU if enabled. I have an i3-10100 and those three settings keep me at 60 FPS most of the time, because said i3 is a 4 core / 8 thread part and Cyberpunk really struggles with those even if they're newer.
