The best job I ever had panel beater in a coachworks started apprenticeship in 1985 had to leave due to the money being garbage. Loved the job especially restoring old motors 😢

Some really awkward welding there, kudos for persevering with it and not rushing and blowing lots of holes in it which is what would have happened to me 😅

If you are blowing holes the amps are to high or the metal is to rot to weld and you need to cut that out to.

Most men like a challenge but not all complete such a challenge. I bet when you go home it’s like a scene from the great escape as you empty your pockets of old Datsun rust in hope to escape the welding torcher haha won’t be long and you will be fuelling up n turning the key. will never see any geezers better than you guys, cant switch it off, i think the Datsun will be stronger than the day it rolled of production, and another thing, "snapon" would have made a better job of building a space ship than "muski boys outfit, and get some brazil nuts for Popeye, he looks hungry.

Excellent work as always mate ! Have you tried holding a lump of copper behind the seam when butt welding? I use the end of a copper mallet head makes it easier to get a nice run without blowing through less grinding behind too

Nice job. You"ll get there 👍. Im working on a 67 chevelle now. Almost done with the body and chassis. Took me 2 winters alone. Chassis was half gone and the body to. Tons of metal cut out. Pictures and measurements help me in the restoration

Love your work, but did you ever consider how much easier it would be to import a rust free body from the States, convert to RHD and transfer all the bits over (including the tags)?

I see you have mastered the technique of using a hammer handle to close gaps and make beautiful welds. You are evolving! 🤣 Seriously though, you're a brave lad for cracking on. If I may ask one question, is this your beautiful car or is your garage restoring it for someone with a ton of money? I could never afford to bring a car back that far gone even if I did everything but paint it.

Yes, The handle does wonders! Its so important to get the panels properly aligned! makes grinding welds down loads easier! Thanks haha, I'm determined to get it back on the road! This is one of ours :). Thanks again Craig!

@@yorkshirecarrestoration I had a 1983 Datsun 280Z and they were a blast to drive. I had the two seat model. Be careful braking into fast corners. The tail wants to slide out. Rookie mistake on my part. They kept stealing my T-tops so I had to get rid of it. Haven't owned a sports car since. Now that I'm retired it might be time for another.

Good spot, it was a difficult piece to get right, I wanted to make sure I did it right and get it the right shape, so I took my time and thought it through first before going in

As always, a challenge overcome with finesse and a sense of humour! Just a query on the pliers you are using to assist the shaping of the curved panel, to the inner guard; are they glazier's pliers, as they are smooth and seem to have no grip, or did you made these up yourself?

Nice progress on this video. Bet it feels way more structurally sound now. I couldn't help but notice the crusty panel that might be next on your list, just to the right of that wheel well. Urgg, what could be hiding in there? I wonder...

As always, very impressive stuff. A serious question for you guys, with a shell this bad would you not send it to be acid dipped for fear the structure couldn't take the strain?

Thank you very much! And it would be an idea to acid dip it, but all Datsuns of this age are all the same, its just they do not share repairs on KZbin

Can I ask a favour? Where did you get the blue 'swaging tool' with stand and spare mandrells from? I've seen it in the background and you used it once.

Why so short?? Make some Video about a half Hour or 45 Minutes.always have to wait two weeks for a new video. I have to talk to the boss. This can not go on like this.

I was determined to do that in one big section, although the sheet of steel wasn't big enough to fill that last little gap!
