Just imagine the good condition that the VW's were in when they were 'dumped' there 40 years ago. I bought a '71 from a Car Scrapyard as a burnt-out wreck (Engine Fire). I spent a year and $14K to bring it "back from the dead". That was 15 years ago. Beetles (the most iconic vehicle on earth) grow on you. Today, my Beetle is part of the family. Looks brand new - and has been kept original - other than the Wedgewood Blue and Gray Leather Seats. Many of your viewers are like me, a lifelong love affair with a car? Sounds ridiculous but true. You guys do a great job. If you feel that these pair of Beetles are beyond Economic Repair, pass them on...... There are many people out there that love the challenge to restore, and turn that rust - into gold!! Greetings from Australia.
@gaddmeister5 жыл бұрын
With the Beetles it's a case of welding in support braces for the body to keep its shape, unbolting what is left of the body and separating the body from the floor. Two new floor pans and two heater channels replaced in th body. Floors are easy to do and the cars appear to be solid. Well worth the bargain $750. I've restored many beetles and buses in my younger years. Great find!

I just discovered this youtube channel today. I've already watched 3 videos. Its raw, real & not over produced. I love what you guys are doing with these vehicles. I wish I was capable of doing this sort of thing. I'd love to repair & save old cars, but I just don't know enough about it. In fact I know nothing about mechanics or car value (except I know all those VW's are worth way more than $750). But these kind of videos make me want to go to mechanic school even though I'm in my 40's. Oh yeah it was pretty cool that you gave the guy an extra $250 cause he obviously had no idea what those VW's can be worth.

@gaddmeister5 жыл бұрын
The 'Thing' is not a kublewagen, similar but came out years later as a vehicle for the modern German Whermacht in the 70's. The kublewagen type 82 used a beetle platform, however, the Thing type 181 used the wider Karman Ghia floor pan.

Glad to see you guys saving those old VWs. I have a 61 rag top sunroof in my backyard, plan to restore it one day. All yours needs is every panel replaced, swap the transaxle with a 67 type 3 with the long axle tubes and wide drum brakes, convert it to 12v, build a nice 2200cc or bigger engine and redo the interior and soft top and you'll have a nice little car with no A/C. It's easier to pull it from the front on the old bugs, the front axle isn't way up under there like the rear axle.

The VW thing was my all time favorite car when I was back in high shcool. A friend of mine had a bright orange one. Lance mentions that it has a military look to it. It was actually called the Volkswagen 181. The concept for the 181 came from the Type 82 Kübelwagen (an abbreviation of the German “Kübelsitzwagen,” meaning “bucket-seat car) and the also Type 166 Schwimmwagen (literally meaning swimming car or amphibious car), a German military vehicle used during World War II. The Type 181 was also sold to the public, as the Kurierwagen (“courier car”) in West Germany, the Trekker (RHD Type 182) in the United Kingdom, the Thing in the United States (1973-74), the Safari in Mexico and South America, and Pescaccia in Italy. I build custom Hot Wheels size cars and dioramas, I'm going to do one of this VW Thing and the other bugs. Thank you for sharing. Take care and God bless. JESUS JESUS JESUS Till the Day I Die. Great score man, especially with the thing!! And good on ya for giving them old boys a little extra. Lots of respect. Aussie fan 👍🏻

Oldskoolonly Garage ...I felt the same. Nice gesture to round it up from $750 to $1000. Says something about character of these blokes! Regards from Texas!

Well, shoot... My old VW just turned 50 this year and is still running. They're great cars and luckily lots of fresh new parts are still being made for them. You'll likely need new floor pans? That's the "frame" for a VW... Sounds like you never heard of the German WWII *"Kubelwagen"* ?

The tree trimmer's are gonna charge more than they paid for the VW's !

Now that y'all have your channel back I look forward to catching up on the ones I haven't seen 👍👍

Man, the vw thing alone is worth more than 750 !

When ever I got stuck four-wheeling my bug, we'd just pick up the front, and turn it the other direction. Not stuck any more.

There is something strange about that motor. The carburetor setup and breather doesn't look stock. The video didn't show enough to really tell what was going on with it. Can't wait to see the work ahead

Love that you paid him a little extra, even at $1,000, still a great deal. God Bless.

Wow, you and your dad go through a lot of sweat trying to get those VW's out. I admire your desire and will to get them out and restoring what you can.

Ha, at first, when you said “yanks” I was almost incredulous thinking there’s no way someone would mistake them for northerners. Then I realized you’re from AU, which makes much more sense in the context of the word.

Lance and Wyatt, ,We really enjoy your website. Saving those old vehicles and getting them running again is a work of art! Hopefully the lawsuit will be in the past! Hang in there guys! Larry and Allan Orofino, Idaho.

I can't believe you got 750 for all of those. what a deal!

But he actually gave him a grand which was awesome too.

The buyer probably got a better deal for taking all of them. I think the seller would have charged more than $750 if he had only bought The Thing. He wanted them gone.
@bg1475 жыл бұрын
The tree work was more expensive than the cars and has to be added in. On the other hand, the way they focused in on the name and phone number on the truck may have resulted in a deal.

1988 Orlando - at a tire store the owner said he put new tires on an orange Thing for $170 and the owner couldn't pay, so I could have it for the $170 (but no title) running with the key.
