Turns Out Corvette Engines Make Excellent Boat Motors

I recently stumbled across this 283 SBC that was originally installed in a 1959 Century Wooden Boat.

65 Chris Craft cabin boat had twin 283ci Chevy engines. Surprised me too when a friend bought the boat for scrap.

Yep, it would seem the SBC engine was was the power train of choice for many of the wooden boat builders back in the late 50s/early 60s.

Selected this video expecting to see a discussion of the beloved LT1 in the Mastercraft competition ski boats. Disappointed? Heck, no! Just trying to imagine that '59 motor when new in a classy Century of that period, and the sound coming out of the twin water-cooled exhaust outlets. Especially enjoyed your taking the time to look at the unusual details of the motor, a real time piece that should be a fun rebuild.

That pvc is hooked up to where the road draft tube would go.

As for value to a prospective buyer, while I'm sure that parting this assembly would yield some $$, don't you think there's some guy out there, doing a full restoration, and needs a complete assembly - and would pay dearly for it? Doing C3 restorations, you know how we are held for ransom with something like this. And vintage boat and aircraft are very expensive. If you video doc'd the restoration some guy would pay whatever price you want for it.

I have a 1997 Camaro SS, white w/hugger orange stripes, level 2 suspension, etc., but it was an LT1 car. 100% original, right down to the cassette player! The previous owner spun a rod bearing and smoked the engine. The block is salvageable, and it is the original engine, so I bought a pristine 1996 LT4 ‘vette crank for it, and then, a couple of days ago, I scored a pair of 1996 LOW-mile LT4 heads! (12555690). So, accidentally, my 1997 (30th anniversary) Camaro SS could pass as a Special Edition to all but the most educated critics! The front vin stamp on the block has SS as the last two digits, and it is all LT4 inside now. Lol. I’m too much of a purist to be dishonest about it, but I will certainly know what a real Special Edition 30th anniversary Camaro SS feels like, even if it is not “quite” the real deal.
