I’m so glad I found you all this years later, your content still holds up in quality (not video quality tho haha) very good content, I just got into vinyl collecting and accidentally got a DJ deck instead of just a normal turntable, I’ve always been interested in DJing and mixing so will probably give it a try so your guidance is a great help!

Yo Angelo you got some sick skills - its funny tho cos its like watchin a british Qbert. I wish we had these vids back in 1990 when I was learning 2 scratch - all I had was fucked up faders, damaged vinyl, broken stylus's and my mum shouting "turn that noise down"...... moved out turned it up and spent the next 20 years happily scratching. These vids would of saved me 5+ years I reckon. Years ago it was so secretive nobody wanted you knowing their tunes, styles, techniques,

You've asked a great question and one that is often up for debate. It is possible to "scratch" on most modern CDJs but a lot of the principals won't apply as much of the artform cannot be expressed on CDJs. Although technology is always moving forward, "Turntablism" is authentically about using Turntables - needle on vinyl etc. Passionate turntablists will tell you that a CDJ just doesn't feel the same as manipulating vinyl on a turntable. The only CDJ that came close for me is the Numark CDX

If you don't ask, you don't learn :) Yes, I am playing a record on the left turntable which is an instrumental beat and I am scratching a sound on a different record on the right turntable. (You can't see the left turntable because it is out of shot). The mixer between the 2 turntables allows you to hear 1 record or both records at the same time. Hope this helps. If you're completely new to DJing I'd recommend you check out the "Getting Started" tutorials by Ellaskins AKA The DJ Tutor.

Yes, belt drive turntables don't have a lot of torque (turning power) so direct drive turntables are always ideal for DJing and especially turntablism. It's not impossible to perform on belt drives but you'll definitely need slippery slipmats and you may aso have to give the record a little push when releasing it to get it up to speed immediately.

so my problem is that when i let go of the vinyl the turntable doesn't play at full speed, it starts slow with low pitch and gradually speeds up to normal speed. Very frustrating because I cant just release my hand at the point that I want to play. Is my torque just too low to dj with this turntable?

First off i wanna say much respect to you Angelo, amazing stuff here. I a lil confused as far as the placement of stickers on the records. Lets say u start playing a record with a sticker already on it that you've placed there before. Is the sound u wanna use found right at the point of the sticker or would u have to find it, cue it, then re-align it again with the sticker? this would help out in terms of time code since you are using one record for several songs. Thanks again in advance . . .

You probably need to adjust the breaking force of your turntable. This controls the grip from the motor on the platter, and thus how fast the record stops and starts when you push the button. There will always be *some* ramp-up/-down in speed, but at least you'll come closer :) The record can also be slipping on the slip mat. In that case you'll just have to fine-tune your little push ;)

what are your preferences regarding mixers? i have the 1200s, but i don't think this Nu- mark3's crossfader is gonna cut it for me down the road a little.
