Originally in this video I had a whole section talking about Turo's review policy (which is TERRIBLE, and I am adamantly against) as well as my personal views on these policies outlined in this video. I ended up cutting it because it turned this 13 minute long video into a 25 minute long video. While I do plan to release a video addressing reviews, I do want to mention here in the comments, my take on these policies. That is, hosts will no doubt disagree with my take here, but I have been a Turo host for a long time, and this isn't the first time hosts are upset (and rightfully so) about a policy change by Turo, and it certainly will not be the last. But, the dust will settle, we will learn how to work with and/or around these changes, I strongly believe that any hosts who wants to be fine, will be fine. I've been criticized in the past for being too pro Turo, and anti-host - but the truth is, this couldn't be further from the truth, and my philosophy simply is to not put too much time and energy into things I can't change. These Turo policies, are most likely here to stay, and while I think it's important to voice opinions, I also think it's equally, if not more important, to adapt and keep moving forward. Hopefully this video helps explain to hosts how they can work around these changes and continue that path forward, and for newer hosts who maybe weren't up to speed, it helps educate them on what's going on. Thanks for watching.

The agents don’t know what they be talking about. But anyway..Exactly how do we opt out for this mileage thing? Which toggle button do we click? 65% discount for 1 month rent with 1200 miles max. It is ridiculous. If I have my car booked for 2 weeks, I will earn more if I have my car booked for 1 month. Who created this new dynamic prices setup should be fired!!!

@carmanjun48592 ай бұрын
Turo takes away MIN & MAX for its own benefits. It wants to use dynamic pricing to set low prices to undercut Enterprise/ Hertz on a daily basis to steal business. While it might get more bookings, which then they make their % cut, hosts are not happy especially ones with a car loan cause now ROI looks crappy with the low prices (low profit).
@KnightsRidesRentals2 ай бұрын

Turo seems to be desperately grabbing for maximizing utilization (dropping rates beyond host's controls under the guise of improving utilization frequency) across the board to the detriment of hosts profits and running costs. Its shifted in favor of guests and renters as well as for Turo to bring in more frequent trips but it burns the hosts who manage the cars and want to make their own profit not just slang cars for people to burn up quickly and break down often from excessive use.
@AD-se7ty2 ай бұрын
I understand why they did dynamic pricing. It helps fix hosts who are lazy/don’t care that will place in an ultra high price. Renters see this and don’t ever bother coming back to Turo. Uber drivers will then be more inclined to use turo. Turo sees more data than we do which would have helped this decision make more sensible. It may also help the “race to the bottom “ where hosts drive the prices too far down past the market, which causes turo to lose potential earnings. If I was working with the top ridesharing company, I’d want more control of the “outliers who influence” too. Problem is they (again) oversimplified the algorithm. It appears to go by Make/Model…and that’s it. “Lincoln Navigator? Oh, those will all be $55 for that area and date range”. Like you mentioned, they need to drill down more to the trim of vehicle. Will they do that? Probably not as that would require a lot of developer time and, in their eyes, little ROI. But, as you pointed out, $55 vs $125…yea, they’ll lose $$$. Thanks for the explanation!

@carmanjun48592 ай бұрын
If that is the case, Hosts just won't allow long term rentals. With such huge discounts, nobody makes good profit. You don't see Enterprise/ Hertz give out those profits when renters keep their cars for a long time. It is Turo's cut-throat move to try to steal business from the traditional car rental companies at the expenses of host profits. This would only make sense if the discounts are smaller like 10% -15%.

Turo is forcing the pricing down from 60% to 75% when capping the mileage and the lowest amount is 1200 then 1800 then 2400. This is a good feature so a person doing uber will not pick your car. And regular renters will enjoy the discount. But the discount is way too much. Then with your payments , insurance, and maintenance costs you are going to lose money. Believe me you don't want uber drivers using your car. They will put as much as 4K to 8k of mileage on your vehicle. So does anyone have any ideas on how to limit the miles and still get a fair price for the vehicle?

I think a lot aren't actually. And my perception is that the national market is struggling with desperate passive hosts renting for bare minimums to make payments on the cars they own and rentout. It totally fucks the power hosts and the business owner types on the platform because obviously they're typically the ones who study the intricacies and depth of their utilization, net profits, and operating costs.

For the monthly mileage limits: If a guest ends up driving 200 miles the additional mileage rate actually will cause the rental to roughly equal out to if you just had a 200 mile limit. You can actually make a lot more money if your guest exceeds the 200 miles per day on a monthly trip because the additional mileage rate is actually higher than a the daily mileage rate. You need to check the math for each situation, but there is actually a huge upside potential using the monthly mileage limits that no one is talking about.
@DanN-p9sАй бұрын
So you think people are going to drive 6000 miles in month ? No not the majority but here if they’re @ the 200 per day & you leave it there & let’s say they do 150 miles per day at the end of the months it’s 4500 miles in a year (X’s 12) it’s 54k miles which is about 4 years of usage & NO mileage cap & no extra mileage money your dreaming about. Start thinking realistically & not getting blinded by imaginary dollar signs.
