Hey Dave! I love watching this channel because of the knowledge you have and share about the specimens. Really want to come to the gem show next year, but for now, I love learning about the industry through your channel. It is truly fascinating, and it's great to watch and learn! @lapidarydave, I found some material in California that has the webbing just like turquoise, except the stone is white/cream and the webbing is red/brown. It's stable when cut and can take a nice polish. Do you know if Turquoise can have this look
@lapidarydave Жыл бұрын
feel free to send me a picture 772284-4459 99% of the time materials that are white that look like turquoise are not turquoise A lot of the white cream colored stones with webbing are usually a magnesite or a howlite material even the ottesen material that people falsely name white buffalo turquoise is not a turquoise. It’s a calcite dolomite. more than anything though the best way to go about knowing for sure is to get a tested. Turquoise is a hydrated copper phosphate in certain labs should have no problem testing to see if his material you were finding is in fact that material

Oddly, the Iranian Turquoise formerly called "Persian Turquoise" was valued for clear blue and lighter blue color without matrix. In the US now, the darker blue with lots of matrix is more valued. Seems different tastes and different era.

@lapidarydave Жыл бұрын
no, I didn’t do Kingman I might might check them out before the end of the shows. They are at a venue that doesn’t allow filming also besides showing off the price for the material there currently putting out not too much to talk about.

@@lapidarydave i know whattcha mean, the only thing to really see not being there is all the stuff they won't list online or on social media. They have buckets of rough and trays of cabs that they just don't advertise but I'd rather see the smaller mines and rarer stuff

It seems if you are a cutter and you want to build a name as a cutter or seller. You avoid any treated turquoise. Stay with 100% natural untreated. Treated and unnatural turquoise hurts the industry. Aim to deal and cut only the finest turquoise.
@lapidarydave Жыл бұрын
In someways I agree with you and some I’ll have to disagree with you a good case in point is the Otteson and Hartman family both work some of the best natural turquoise in the industry but both also work stabilized and nobody’s judging them for it
