Wearing my Old School Turtle 6309 7040 from January 1980 right now. All original parts. Never been serviced. Works like a gem and keeps time like a Mayan!!!

I never thought this was a popular watch at the time of production. I have the 7040. It was passed to me by my father and still working (Jan 2021). I believe this was opened once by Seiko themselves. Never rebuild. I'm reluctant to get it serviced due to unavailable parts and might get replaced. Proud to have it.

There are some watchmakers around still who can service them. Lots is NOS parts around. Cheers!

The 7040 and 7049 denotes where sold rest of world or American market. All 6309s had the S at 6 o clock and were made in Japan until production was moved to Hong Kong in mid 1981.

Never understood the hate for Hardlex, right now I’m wearing an 18 year old SKX171 that’s been serviced once, original hardlex crystal, a couple slight scratches on it. I mean, hesalite is good enough for NASA on their speedies, and nobody complains about that.
@alexserrano28504 жыл бұрын
High five for the 171, one of the least known SKX and far more interesting than the standard 007/9 dial without applied indices. I have one too but mine was made in 2005 which I thought was the year they first released them. I guess I was wrong and it's an older model...

I was just looking up my watch. It is the American version and does not have the SUWA symbol under 150, but in fine print you can see a SUWA symbol on the bottom edge. I don't know if that means anything, but my watch has never had a mod done and has never been opened for maintenance. It barely has a scratch on it. The glass has no scratch at all. It still keeps time relatively well...same as when I first got it. I bought this watch in 1988 so that makes it 33 years old. The luminance no longer glows, but there is no sign of corrosion or pitting. I absolutely love this watch. The band is the only thing that deteriorated. It did not wear down as I rarely wore this watch. The rubber strap just lost its' elasticity and finally just fell off. Thought about modding it, but figured I'll just build a watch from mods and get another movement. My 6309 still looks new...even the luminance hasn't cracked. It just doesn't glow anymore.

Very nice. I have a few of the currant Seiko Turtles. For the most part a think they are great watches. Only thing is a noticed some of the newer releases are going for a lot more then they are worth.

Thanks! I've seen 777's for under $300 on Amazon from time to time.

Just Watch Correct. The 777 has been out for a while. I have seen Turtles go has high as $680, with basilly the same specs.

I love these watches, I've owned a few, I'll probably never let my 6306-7001 or my 6105-8119 go.

Another awesome Seiko video Mike . I currently own the Padi Turtle 🐢 and hope to soon acquire the new save the ocean 🌊 great white turtle 🐢. I’ve tried it on at a local jeweler and love the new upgraded bezel and bezel insert as well.

Is it possible to get replacement bezel inserts that have the original slant? My one has an aftermarket insert but its a flatter one than original 6309 7040

IDK, check with Spencer Klein, he has a lot of great led Seiko parts
@M3LTUP4 жыл бұрын
IMO. Anything under $1k is a great deal on these. I realize todays(5/1/20)market doesnt value them yet at this price point. But that just means they are undervalued.

@bradyaiello7144 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a frankenwatch. 4R36 movements are put in some of their current watches

Suwa and none Suwa makes no difference. They go for the same price.
@drazenbabich4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Depends on perspective and how much of a collector 'nut' are you. For many out there Made in Japan still matters as well as the fact most Suwa's date back to late 70es. I own both and appreciate them the same, BTW.
