I'm cool with this as long as this turtle has a proper basking area and tank. I know a few too many people would act as if their turtles were dogs while neglecting basic requirements. Heck, I my coworker just had a box turtle did after 15 years. I wasn't surprised, dude had no idea or interest in providing a proper basking lamp. Sure, maybe if there's a sunny room with a normal window they could basking under natural sunlight from indoors, but unless they live outside in the yard, they need proper lighting.

I can guarantee it's anything but "boring". Fella does everything that cutie in the vid can do and quite a lot more. How did you get the turtle comfortable with handling? It would be amazing if I could take my red eared slide out even just for tank cleanings because she will not tolerate being held for more than a minute. She also hates shell touching, my mom was taking her out and was touching the algae and she literally propelled herself out of the hand and back into the tank. Luckily she was not hurt but I just want to make her more comfortable with handling in general. She’s an adult, maybe a bit older and we got her a little more than a year ago. I have just learned to not waste time in getting her up and out into the temp tank.

I had a turtle like this, Slow Poke. I used to use a toothbrush to scratch her shell and clean it. She reacted just like this guy, she LOVED it! Slow Poke was the size of a 50-cent piece when the neighborhood kids gave her to me. She was a Western Painted Turtle. Slow Poke went from a 10-gallon to a 20-long, to a 55-gallon tank. She had everything in her turtle condo. I filled the tank up within three inches to the top as they love to dive and swim. She would create a small tsunami in the morning when she saw me get out of bed as she wanted her brine shrimp. I would let her out to roam about when I took the tank down and cleaned it. She would walk around, follow me, or the cats, and then bask in the sun with the cats. Slow Poke was like this fella, very human-oriented, never in her shell, and a turtle that was really a pet like a dog. When my friend came over with her dog, the dog would sit nose pressed to the tank, Slow Poke would see her, dive down and stick her nose to the glass to greet her furry friend. One day, after cleaning her tank, I put her back in after she wandered around. She was acting funny, so I kept a close eye on her, then she fell off her dock, into the water, and passed away. I was devastated because she was perfectly fine before I cleaned the tank as I had done for 14 years! I believe they can live up to 30 years, I even had a very loving home for her if I passed away before her. My grandchildren, my friends, and my neighbors all miss that sweet girl. So, I know how smart turtles are and how they can get attached to humans!

Well, actually, there is a reason why that turtle cannot love his human like the human loves him; a difference in biology. Just, the attachment that turtle feels towards gis human is something vastly different then what people feel towards each other and animals; I think. See, mammals experience deep feelings of love and companionship because of our maturation cycle. We drink our mother's milk, and she protects us; and then we are particularly social animals as well. Because we have to care for our young, and cannot abandon them like: turtles, frogs, and snakes, do, we have paternal and maternal instincts to care for things that are "cute". Turtles don't have that. They never experience someone protecting them, except pre-birth. They are rather lonesome creatures who are not used to having anything care for them, so Mmy guess is that this turtle is either feeling a strange and ancient feeling of protection and comfort(like pre-birth), or he's decided that his dad is his mate(which is not as bad as it sounds, because it's more about the behavioral patterns; like deciding you want to spend the rest of your life with someone curled up on the couch).

@@thesurvivorssanctuary6561 There are THOUSANDS of mammals that will abandon or even abort their own young, even humans, just because we are warm-blooded doesnt mean there's always a connection to our young. You just said all those cold-blooded creatures abandon their offspring, which isn't true. Snakes definitely wrap their bodies around their eggs, hell even crocs carry her babies in her mouth. Humans have no clue to say which animals have feelings or not.

Turtles are usually not capable of love. They can enjoy humans but don’t ever get attached usually to the human but to routine. But this is different and I am here for it.

This is amazing! I have two red eared sliders (15 year old females- I’ve had them for their entire lives, too!). They are pretty smart, curious, and definitely sometimes mischievous! They are not terribly affectionate with me, but I have never handled them like this. Never too late to try! (One of them loves being outside and running through the grass, tho)

@@nickwijkstra3774 yes. They are terrapins. Mine are mostly in the water, but they also love basking in their basking boxes I have for them under the lights (outside of their water tank). They are “semi-aquatic” because some of their life cycle is spent on land, and they often come out of the water (daily).

I love this turtle and his human bonding together! I've seen a lot of tortoise or turtle pets on KZbin, but never seen a pet that is so into its owner as this turtle. The turtle wants to spend every moment hanging out with him--what a great friendship between the species! Very precious! God bless!💚♥
