Back in the early 2000’s I would use and sometimes still use Turtle Wax Synthetic Liquid Polish. It is in a clear bottle with a blue twist cap and came with a dark grey oval foam applicator. It is ok on the paint and will bead forever. The best application and my main use for me is on black trim. It works and lasts a very long time on faded black trim and side mirrors. It will bring back that deep black and will bead water forever. Then they changed the product and the bottle design and it was terrible for everything. I still have half the bottle left from 2006 and it still does the job very well without being greasy or leaving white residue. I’m going to try Turtle Wax Seal N Shine tomorrow on a white 2016 Toyota RAV4. There is going to be a lot of rain coming so I will also see how it repels dirt and the dirty water streaking from the door handles. I’m thinking the Seal N Shine might be the same product from 2006, just reworked to make the product a bit better. As I watch your videos on the product, it reminded me of experience I had with the older product, especially not being that glossy and when you wet the product it looks kind of oily under the water on the panel. Both very similar. Going to have to see if both products smell similar. Thank You for the video, great as always!

I use both extensively in my detailing business, but for different applications. TW S&S is tough to beat for general paint protection, especially for the money. It is a goto for production detailing. I reserve Moonlight for trim and tonneau covers, etc. Brian, I recall a while back you responded to a question about a dressing and it seems you said, "only Moonlight does what you are looking for" or something to that effect. That stuck in my head and tried Moonlight on trim and vinyl to my delight. But how long does it last? To keep an eye on a test, after doing a maintenance wash on my neighbor's Grand Cherokee, I used Moonlight on his textured black exterior trim. The wheel arch trim was done on June 14 and now we are four months in, the trim looks the same as it did on June 14, 2020. A water based product would not have lasted until the end of the month, and less if it rained. Moonlight is relatively expensive (especially now having to get it from a Canadian vendor, or via Korea on eBay. The latter being even more costly mostly due to shipping) and I use it on all trim for my higher value jobs. I view Moonlight as the perfect trim dressing between the water-based VRP, Perl, etc and IGL Trim which I use when doing a ceramic coating job. BTW, Gyeon Cancoat approximates Moonlight, but it does not quite have that oily nature of Moonlight, but it does work about as well and is easier to get. The US needs a proper TACSystem distributor. Supposedly, TAC is the originator of ceramic coatings but you would never know it from their PR, or lack thereof. Just ordered two bottles from Canada. There really is no substitute, at least how I use it.
@adamcoe2 жыл бұрын
I've been looking for a longer term protectant for my tonneau and I may have just found it. Been loving Perl on it but as you mention, virtually any water based product has limits to its longevity. I certainly didn't mind re-applying Perl once a month (less often if your vehicle is kept inside), as it's pretty cost effective given how much you can dilute it; but I've been sort of on the hunt for something that would last a couple of months. Will definitely keep Perl as my interior go-to product, but I might give Moonlight a go for exterior trim. Ever try it on tires? I assume it would work quite well if it's good on tonneaus but I wonder that being that it's not "designed" for tires it might sling a little perhaps. Or not?

I have not experienced any gloss reduction to the naked eye with Seal and shine. I have used it on different vehicles and gloss in real world seems good. With that said I now use bead maker (it’s a high gloss product) as a drying aid after washing or a topper for Seal and shine and it’s the best of both worlds. Longevity and protection from Seal and shine and a boost in gloss and a drying aid after a wash with bead maker. It’s a heck of a combo.

@roscopervis5 жыл бұрын
I've probably said this before, but Seal N' Shine has amazing chemical resistance. However, mechanical durability is a different thing. Just staying on the car for time will also affect the protection. Sonax BSD has really good chemical resistance yet only lasts about 2 months on the car in real world conditions, where other products with less chemical resistance last much longer side by side. I wonder how much mechanical durability Seal n' Shine has - how long will it last on the car in real world conditions? I have some and I'm trying it out. It will be a few months I expect.
@matiusteddyc.856 Жыл бұрын
Any suggestions what product with great mechanical durability?
@roscopervis Жыл бұрын
@@matiusteddyc.856 you would want something that is more resinous - real world coatings with real solids like Can Coat, Synergy Lite etc will have mechanical durability. The spray sealants, even ones that say they are ceramic (but in reality just have a very tiny amount of it) are typically too thin and the bond they create cannot be maintained for long enough to provide long term mechanical durability. It depends on how easy you want the application to be? With any product, the less you wash it, the longer it will last. The act of washing a car, using chemicals and then abrading the paint with wash mitts, weakens the chemical and mechanical durability of products much more than not washing it, particularly if the weather is good and the car isn’t covered with traffic film and road salt. That means, cars that are washed less, to a point, will have their protection last longer as their products mechanical durability will be increased.

Brian, you mentioned while doing the gloss test on the TW's ICE, that you expected it to drop. I find just the opposite when I apply the TW products, but I could clearly see it on the video when you started working the product, it looked as though it clouded over. Why did you expect that to happen? Also for me, the bottom line for the daily driver is protection and that comes in two forms, the first is how slippery the product is to prevent water drops and contaminants from adhering to the surface as well as the longevity of the product. Good test overall.

The use is a gloss meter is a useful, measurable way to compare products; however, I wonder how much of a value change the human eye can see. What I mean is, if product "A" raises the gloss from 90 to 94 GU, is it really noticeable? It is a great way to compare products - nice and measurable, but how much can an eye see? What I notice most is clarity of the paint: smooth and free of defects. Just a though. Great video again!

With how little of Tac you use I would say even price is a draw. But I'm a gloss guy so I would go with Tac. I have no problem if I have to reaply a product once a week on my cars, I love the process.

Can't go with either one. I can get Seal N' Shine at Walmart anytime I want (24/7). I can also work with it directly on the sun, which is important for me. It goes on every square inch of the exterior of my car. I do like the gloss and self-cleaning ability of Moonlight, but it is $50 and I need to order it online.

I just started to watch the video, but what are the characteristics of each product when in contact with contaminants do they slide off easy or stay embedded in the paint?

For about the same longevity, but higher gloss of Moonlight, I'd go for the Moonlight. I could do every car I own and probably a few neighbor's cars with one bottle of moonlight, so the extra cost is not too exorbitant. People mention the 1-2 of S&S topped with Ice Wax. I'm curious how Moonlight would look topped with the crazy gloss of Tac System's Shinee Wax

I've asked this question on several other channels, and it seems I don't ever get an answer, or one that is very helpful. When you get a customer who applies these types of products on a normal basis, how would you tackle removing these products when you are going for a full paint correction? What would you use to remove the protection? I'm looking to get my vehicle paint corrected and I use Seal N Shine and or Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax.

Seal n shines price point is hard to beat. And for an everyday person really easy to use.

With Moonlight be a light ceramic 25% si02, do you would think it would perform better than seal and shine (unknown si02 level) on a physical level ie - very light scratches or etchings like a traditional ceramic coating

s&s has sio2 also

So what you saying is, If i want to do some paint correction on some swirls or scratched that has occurred lets say, 2 months after applying Tac sytems, Then I would have to wash it like 20 times before I can get the protection off and then only can I correct? as from what I understand, you need completely clear paintwork to correct?
@sneakyfoz36925 жыл бұрын
Seal n Shine Mainly due to cost, really a no brainer on an everyday driver, and in real world slickness really lasts a long time on the paint, makes washing your car really easy.

worldwide availability of S&S, cant say that for many products

I feel like while TW is obviously a lot cheaper per bottle, you also use a fair bit more per application vs. TAC. So perhaps not as cut and dry as it seems. TW is still likely a little cheaper overall even with that taken into account but it's maybe it's not the wild difference it seems initially, especially when you factor in a) the drop in gloss vs a decent boost in gloss and b) the fact that you'd go through far less TAC over a given amount of time, so the bottle would last you much longer.

Still hoping for TW S&S vs.TLC test. Funny not one person will do that test.

Which product do you think gives better gloss? Moonlight or one step master? I've heard moonlight is more glossy but I've also seen one step master give 100+ gloss units in your video. Which is glossier?

Is it possible to put seal & shine as a base. Allow to cure, then top with a ceramic product such as moonlight? Or would they not stack

The Wolfgang Concours Series Deep Gloss Sealant Vs Turtle Wax ICE Seal N Shine would be an interesting comparison.
