I am a black pilot and I owe everything thing to these great men of an era long ago but never forget. I will pass the torch on to the next generation. So many time I wanted to give up and go home in flight training. What kept me going was the sacrifice that was made before me. I took homage in that. Now I am a commercial pilot!

Much respect to you brother Thomas. I'm sure many of those Tuskegee airmen wanted to quit also but I'm betting many of them thought about what our ancestors had to go through and that kept them seeing it through.

@@marjorjorietillman856 Hi! Actually, I don't remember this since it was apparently 11 years ago. My guess is that I copied/pasted this from some source as I personally do not remember. I may have been trying to make a point but again, I don't remember this at all. I have huge respect for these men though! I am thinking that I was trying to point out how many black Americans served our country and how our country treated them (beyond badly) before, during, and after WWII. By the way, alive and well at almost 60 years old in a couple months. I wish you the very best!

@@pwestjr Thanks for the response, because I was truly curious. I didn’t see it as a negative, but I just wanted to know what it meant; however, I appreciate the fact that you appreciated the accomplishments of those men who loved their country so dearly, in spite of their treatment! Well, Eleven years seems a while ago, because so much as happened for me also. Anyway, have a nice 60th birthday. I’ve already turned 60, and it isn’t much different from turning 50 to me. But just make sure you enjoy life, because for people who’s 60, it’s our last chance to enjoy things we put off earlier! Never knew I’d be so happy to still have my teeth 🤣😂 no diabetes or heart problems, so that brings me the most happiness! Take care!!

You ask about the white pilots during WWII. Good questions. I highly respect all of our veterans as I am one myself and know some of the sacrifice that our military men and women make to serve our country. I highlighted the Tuskegee Airmen in particular because they had to endure racism in the military that they served in from their fellow white soldiers and leaders in particular. Tough way to support your country, huh?

@pwestjr, thanks for pointing that out, because nowadays it takes courage to say what you said. It’s 11 years later, and I hope you still feel that way, because nowadays, the political climate has changed so drastically since the country had a Black president, and the rise of MAGAism, and social media. Now we’re living post those 2 Presidents, and sadly race relations in certain areas has soured badly!

@@marjorjorietillman856 I feel strongly that way and I bring it to people's attention on social media and in front of their face quite often. By the way. President Obama was my president as well and there will never be another like him. I even helped campaign for him (Organizing for America). I am always speaking out against Trump, quite boldly and not afraid to say it to people's face. Race relations and equality has a lot of work to do in this country. Our country has failed so many people of color/race. Thank you for your response!

I don't think the white or should I say, non-black soldiers, sailors, or airmen had to deal with that while fighting for their country. They had to fight to get the respect that "some" not all finally gave them. Also, let me show you some facts in the next post. Not enough room in this post.

Black soldiers only wanted an equal opportunity, free from man-made obstacles to stop them from achieving their goals. They weren’t fighting segregation because they wanted to sit next to someone with whiter skin, but merely to have equal footing to compete on a level playing field, because separate but equal was a myth! They greatly proved themselves above and beyond, because they couldn’t be average!!❤
