An aromatic curry/gravy that is usually served with bun parottas across towns like Tuticorin, Virudhunagar & Madurai. This is a vegetarian version that can be eaten with idly, dosai, aapam & idiyappam. Recipe in English below.

Ingredients: Paste
* Grated coconut - ¼ cup
* Peanuts - 2 tbsp
* Black pepper - 1 tbsp
* Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
* Cardamom - 3 nos
* Fennel seeds - 2 tsp
* Cinnamon - 2 inches
* Garlic cloves - 4 nos
* Ginger - 1 inch
* Oil - 1 tbsp
Ingredients: Salna
* Shallots -10 nos (chopped)
* Tomato - 1 no
* Sambar powder - 2 tsp
* Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
* Mint leaves - 1 sprig
* Coriander leaves - 1 sprig
* Curry leaves - 1 sprig
* Oil - 1 tbsp
* Salt
Method:
1. In a wok, heat oil and add ingredients mentioned under ‘paste’ in the same order.
2. Once it turns aromatic and the coconut is brown. Switch off stove and cool spice mix.
3. Grind spices and coconut to a fine water paste.
4. In a wok, heat oil and add shallots and sauté.
5. Once shallots are soft, add tomatoes and sauté.
6. Add the turmeric and sambar powders and mix well.
7. Add salt, coriander, curry and mint leaves and mix well.
8. Add the ground paste and water and bring to a boil.
9. The longer it boils, the tastier the salna is.
10. Serve hot with idly, dosai, parotta, idiyappam and aapam
Note:
* If you want to add chicken or mutton, follow steps 1 to7.
* Then add the chicken or boiled mutton pieces, the paste and pressure cook with required water.

My so is very choosy, yesterday i made this salna side dish for rotis, he had well, thankyou soo much acuurate measurement easy to do , different side dish, actually i saw so many channels the same receipe but i strongly trusted yours and made it, came out well, today i made Bun Halwa very easy n tasty, hats off brother, great job,

கண்டிப்பாக முந்திரி தான் சேர்க்க வேண்டும். வேர்க்கடலை சேர்க்க கூடாது. ஜீரகமும் சேர்க்க கூடாது. கசப்பு சுவை கொடுக்கும்
