Very good video!!! As a daughter whose Dad flew a B26 maybe right in this area, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the work you are doing to bring and honor the B26 and the men who flew in this particular plane, The Thunderbird! May God richly bless you now and in all future endeavors!!

Thank you for for your work on this, and for posting this video. My father flew missions in B-26s out of Sardinia to support Operation Dragoon. He was in the 17th Bomb Group, 95th Bomb Squadron. On 18 Aug 1944, 2 days after his 21st birthday, his crew flew as an "air spare", but was not needed for the mission and did not fly all the way to the target. Here's his entry from his memoirs that day: "August 18, 1944: Air Spare. After a few days off, we were slated to be a spare aircraft for a mission. For each mission that is planned, it is anticipated that some number of aircraft will have mechanical or other issues shortly after takeoff, that requires that they turn back and not complete the mission to the target. So the mission planners identify a certain number of additional aircraft per flight formation to take off and be available to fill in for those that have to turn back before they get too far out. An aircraft and crew slated for this role, are known as an ‘Air Spare’ for that mission. In the case that one of the scheduled aircraft had an issue, a spare ship would already be in the air to fill in for the disabled plane, so that the required number of aircraft would be sent to the target on time. Crews that are designated as spare, and don’t fill in, don’t get credit for a combat mission, that count toward the 25 that you initially needed to complete in order to go home. On Friday, August 18th, we were slated as a spare, but didn’t have to fill in for any of the other crews. They all were able to continue on to whatever the target was that day. Even though we prepared for the mission plan, geared up, took off and formed up, and then peeled off to land fully loaded that day, we didn’t get a mission credit for it. While I guess it makes sense that these didn’t count toward your combat mission credit, the truth was, that anytime we climbed into these aircraft, we were at risk. Things happen. Bad things happened all the time. There were even routine runs that guys didn’t walk away from. I thank God each day for allowing me to get through all this without bad things happening to me."

thank you for this beautiful testimony on these dark days of our history! I try with my friends to conduct an investigation to definitively identify this B-26 sunk at my home at the sicié cape! his story was for too many years badly described and attributed to another device a French B-26! But we are firmly convinced that this is "THUNDERBIRD" lost in the same circumstances and at the same time! I prepare a complete report in videos on the history of these men but I miss their photos cruelly I have only 3 on the entire crew of the day! we hope very much to get sufffisaement of technical means this are to continue our search by -100m to locate finally the nose of the plane and thus get more clues thanks to you and a biento for the continuation of this series of films that will tell you the progress of our research on this magnificent aircraft thank you LUDOVIC
