Margaret, came back to say I jumped right in, as you encouraged and made a pair of these on my Addi with a Bulky grey wool yarn (the yarn worked nicely with my Addi's "personality") and then as I was finishing up the trim, I was planning on finishing off each end in the same color but after I finished the grey on the bottom, my waste yarn which was a white looked so good in contrast, I set the project aside while I ordered more yarn - (I use only natural materials wool etc. and we live in the country so no store that carries what I want easily) I thought, I must really be into this look if I need to get a color I don't have at the moment :) Thank You so much for being such a sweet and fun Mentor !!!

+JodiLove Jarvis What kind words for me this morning! Thank you, Jodi! That was a happy coincidence to discover a color-combo that you really love! Nobody is thinking about color choice when they grab some waste yarn and POOF you became an inspired designer when you looked at yours!

These were beautiful ! Can't wait to try this. The colors you choose to do them in were so Fun -really showed how nice of a job the machine does, along with the easy to follow pattern.

+JodiLove Jarvis Yes... the machine does an excellent job BUT it does have it's yarn preferences! You should come across a video called something like "Incompatible yarn" and it's really odd how some yarns work for some people and not others! Just get some yarn and jump right in!

Thank you for this easy to follow tutorial. I made my first fingerless mitts. The only one thing I did different was when taking off the machine I didnt use a wool needle, I used a circular flexible needle and ended up with all the stitches neatly on the needle. From there I still managed to use a crotchet hook to crochet off the stitches neatly,. When it came to taking off the waste yarn from the wrist area, again I used a circular needle to pick up all the stitches and then crochet them. it worked wonders for me.

This is an old video when I was just learning to knit with needles. If I were to do it again, I would probably employ more needle finishing so good for you! Did you see the other video? The one for advanced Addi users? It's slightly different.

Hi Margaret for a nice knitted cuff i would recommend using a 3 1/4mm circular needle or dpns and knit one row plain decreasing three stitches evenly across the row then working a 2×2 rib it'll look stunning and polished treat the thumb whole like picking up knit stitches for a neck band on a sweater with the small needles knit a row or too then bind off! Happy knitting

Efrain Malave But remember this is worsted weight yarn with only 22 stitches so Addi (and others more proficient than I) recommend 7mm needles! However, I would much rather have your 2x2 ribbing suggestion and bet that would work nicely. I can see where your thumb suggestion would work on the Advanced method of the thumb opening but not for this beginner method without leaving big, gaping holes since it's not a proper bind off. It's more like a gathered bind off (just running the yarn though the stitch like a lifeline) and you pull only enough to make the stitches meet while leaving a sufficient opening for your thumb so the edge is not a full stitch but rather a single piece of yarn with a stitches looped over. (I just can't like this beginner method.)

Oh my heavens, I promise I tried! 😂 I made three different attempts; frogged each one fully at least once, unsure about how to count rows, none of them match, and now I don’t have enough yarn left to make a fourth attempt. Regardless, I enjoy your videos and thank you for sharing the pattern.

Ahh... but the beauty of yarn is you can re-use it! Rip out those projects you didn't like and try again!

Mine are not perfect, by any means, but I've taken this idea and created a reversible glove with thumb hole. I have trouble crocheting, so the edges are bound together and finished with blanket stitch. I also do three colours - matching top and bottom and two different main body colours.

Maybe for the thumb area you could crochet front and back post to create a ribbed thumb “extension “ .

I just made my first glove following your tutorial! yea! I crocheted 2 rows of sc around both ends as well as the thumb hole. but I must have done something wrong with my starting waste yarn as it wouldn't come undone and I had to literally cut it off so now it really is waste. my first time using waste yarn so I am sure I just did something wrong. But tyvm for sharing awesome tutorial. I did have ? for you tho. when u are re-adding your main color after the thumb hole (re-casting on) the printed directions say Behind, in front, behind black needles but you go the opposite way, in front, behind, in front. Does that make a difference? the first time I tried these (pulled out 4 times lol) I had a huge hole by the thumb. Anyways, just wondering
@sheepishlysharing
@sheepishlysharing 9 жыл бұрын
Danielle C. No... you didn't do anything wrong with the starting waste yarn. Knitting unravels backwards from the last stitch done so the early cast-on waste yarn will the be last to unravel. You DO have to cut it and pick it out unless you're very patient (which I have been known to do!) In regard to the re-casting on, apparently it doesn't matter. Do whatever works for you!

oh yea! I used a G hook for the crocheting as I crochet looser than normal.

Is this the small Addi? How could they be done on the large one?
@sheepishlysharing
@sheepishlysharing 8 жыл бұрын
+Becky Archer Yes, that's the small one. On the Addi Express King Size, you could do a flat panel using the number of stitches you require and seam the sides together leaving an opening for your thumb.

Hi Margret, just watched this in my lunch break as my internet is down at home, I just wonder, you say you didnt like the thumb hole when you tried to crochet it, would it have made any difference if you had gone behind that first black needle like it says to do, as you actually went in front, which gave you a big opening as you were coming off the white hook next to it also? Sorry I went back and read the instructions, you did say go behind, but then went infront, does it make a difference? I need to buy a small machine, although I am thinking you could use this technique to make a tea cosy for a full size pot on the kingsize :)

That's EXACTLY how you get the hang of Addi skills, Maral! It helps once you get a good handle on how the machine is actually working to create the stitch (and bind off) and the only way to understand is to watch videos and make practice pieces! BUT , that's the beauty of KZbin and yarn... both can be watched and reused for no added cost!

Why don’t you just do an afterthought thumb instead of binding off and on again? That way you can make a real thumb and as long as you want and it would be neater. It works for sock heels.

Yes... that IS an option if one knows how to knit with needles. Many who own these machines do not.
