I sometimes still see many adult artists still use black and white for shading, but in reality the ONLY thing that is actually really black are your pupils, because everything else gets hit by light. Great tutorial and you really point out what is the right way to go! ^^
@Saviroosje27 жыл бұрын
Ronny Doodles Thanks so much! Yes indeed. But it seems so tempting to use black and white. I only use white for sparkles and those kinda things ( still depends on the environment, if it is a dark drawing, there won't be white) But it is a hard thing; coloring. @MissLilCuteTea5 жыл бұрын
shadovar S is good to use black for line art! But in your environment or background, if you are shading for a black or white part of your drawing like an outfit make sure your base color is lighter than just a solid black or solid white, so it fits with the envoirment then you shade with a different color such as purple for shading and light yellow for lighting! I hope this helps!! :D

Although your message and point is good, the process of showing it is questionable. There is an obvious performance difference in the first coloring and the second coloring. I understand the fact that the airbrush is a quicker way to color, but the time of _care_ taken in to each drawing is pretty different. If you were to prove a point where coloring and shading makes a difference, try to make each subject the same as possible, with identifying variable. There are two identifying variables in this video, with one being care of coloring, and two, the actual coloring.

No, the left one looks like someone who just started doing art and doesn't spend time studying colors, and the right one looks like it's made by a person who knows what they're doing and who has a way better grasp at art
@SinerAthin5 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree. To be clear, you don't have to follow the methods mentioned in this video or spend lots of extra time to get decent coloring. Take a look at anime for instance. Their coloring is very simplistic, but still manages to look good. Same with some comic artists. The way they color their comics can be very simple, yet you can still see the clear skill in the final piece even with a relatively simple but deliberate(important!) coloring technique.
@ithzelmelgarejo53814 жыл бұрын
SinerAthin while Anime does a more simplistic approach to their coloring, they (the animators) don’t have much time to perfectly color each frame same with comic artists/authors and so they have to use a more simplistic approach HOWEVER they still keep I mind color theory and what looks good and what doesn’t. Not very often will you find an anime that uses coloring methods as shown on the right, that is using a darker color of the same hue to shadow

I still have some trouble when I try to color something that's supposed to be black or white and, I don't know, I'm trying not to use black but then I pick like blue, but like gray-ish blue? [I don't know if I should make it like gray] and I end up making it really dark so it looks like black but then when I add shadow it doesn't really look like it has shadow at all xD because it's too dark! and sometimes I don't know if I should use purple, green or blue for that black thing I want to color, I feel uncertain about what I'm doing when I try it out for example, right now I'm trying to color a doberman with its collar, it's pink and the edges are black, I don't know what kind of color I should use instead of that black and I have a lot of trouble with it, because I try different colors and I'm still not sure about it, how do I know how to choose the right color for the black things I want to color?
@Saviroosje26 жыл бұрын
Awh! I understand your struggles, it is indeed really hard! I still struggle with it a lot too! It mostly is a but more blue-ish or green-ish! You could also try and take pictures of dark objects, place them in your program and use the eye-dropper to pick the colors! You will understand more of color when you do so! Because it also depends on the light, is it warm light or cold light? ( Warm light would most likely make the black color look more yellow/red, while with cold light the colors will be more blue and green!) It still is really hard and I couldn't find a good tutorial to explain it actually. I might make an in depth video about it because I find it very interesting as well, and I also still struggle with it. I hope this helps you a bit!

I like the left side more than the right, because there's more saturation, which draws more attention to the image or picture. The left side looks more clearer also. :D (Just my opinion, don't know if anyone else agrees with me lol)

4:39 I like what you’re saying about the black. Not only would you not be able to shade pure black but black fabrics aren’t pure black, they usually have undertones of green, red, or brown, and so using an extremely dark cool or neutral color that LOOKS black would be easier to shade and also just more true to Life.

i never used the airbrush tool when i started😩 i despised it, now i use it for adding slight gradients to things like clothes and hair. not all the time though, only really if the character has hair color or like a color fading shirt

Thank you so much! This really helped me with my editing! (I don't know how to draw yet ;-;) overall I should start playing with the hues when shading and just start noticing the lightning and the dark shades

My god, this is great. I did earlier hear about moving on the wheel, but I only moved a tiny bit, not thinking that actually moving almost a full colour would actually be the right move. I literally can see my stuff on the left xD This is an incredibly helpful video, thank you!

This tutorial was quite helpful. Thank you :D Since i'm a beginner (whoho, room for improvement), i had really problems with chosing the right colors, because every time it just looked 'wrong'. You explained it so well and though i use Clip Paint, it'll help anyway. So, thanks again for sharing your knowledge and thanks for this nice tutorial! :)

HUh, no wonder why when I do the second on it looks more eye-catching. I have been recently moving out of the black and white colorways and starting to use more variety in my arts. Now my assumption is confirmed, unless it is a dark place then there will always be at least two sources of light to reflecting off a noun (person place or thing.) Thx:)

This is AMAZING I’m defiantly gonna try this out since I suck at shading (but I mean I never use black or white so at least I did something right)
