Blend file: gum.co/AcjMR (free) Note: this is not a beginner tutorial. I do explain some keyboard shortcuts, but not all of them, and the video has been sped up significantly in some areas. If you're still learning to use Blender I recommend finding some beginner tutorials on KZbin first, in order to familiarize yourself with all the buttons and so on. :)

Great tutorial. Just as a help, there is a 'Symmetrize' button, just below the Dynotopo section on the left panel that will match one side to the other, saving you having to mask and sculpt as you did with the jaw.

It's nice to see you sculpting in Blender. I always wondered why you sculpted in zbrush when you do mostly eveything else in Blender
@RicoCilliers6 жыл бұрын
yeah to be honest I'd happily use just blender for everything. I've generally used zbrush because it can handle significantly more polygons, but if Blender keeps improving at the current rate I might not need to use zbrush in the future.
@gringoamigo81466 жыл бұрын
Peter Kim Oh yes, way more optimized than Blender in regards to 3D sculpting. Zbrush also has far more tools, features, etc.

Idk what way is better I see people manually sculpt the cube from the get go like actual but then theres this way where you are more of "building" this model then sculpting it. What does anyone recommend?
@RicoCilliers5 жыл бұрын
If you're a beginner then this way is definitely easier, but nothing wrong with sculpting from a cube or sphere. It can be easy to get frustrated though, just don't give up.

I'm assuming you're talking about the backgrond image? I'm learning too, lol. To get the BG image, press "n", scroll down until you see "Background image" at the bottom. Click the checkbox and expand the section. At the bottom of the section, click "Add image", then click "open". Choose your image, and once you've clicked it, click the "open image" in the top right corner. Scroll back down, look at the "axis" text and next to it, click the "all views". Choose right. Click somewhere on the screen (just to reoreint your mouse so you can click things again.) Then, press 5 on your num pad, then press 3. Your image should show up!

I also couldn't follow this, but I could get a similar effect done by using the modifier tab and using bezel. There may be another way but I messed around with it and it kind of worked :)
@richardtaynor61175 жыл бұрын
ok so you are doing a great job but i wish you would say how your doing stuff. like after you apply everything at the beginning and then remove the one side i can not figure out how to do that? like how to just select the one side
@mistaclean12265 жыл бұрын
You go into Edit Mode with (TAB) and highlight all the vertices on one side of the object (not including the middle line). You then press (X) and select Vertices to delete all the vertices selected. You can then go to the wrench in the right side section and add the Mirror Modifier (make sure it's mirroring on the Y axis). I would also suggest to enable clipping.

Fantastic video, I learnt quite a lot. I would like to ask, why do you use "Relative detail" instead of "Constant detail" when sculpting?
@RicoCilliers6 жыл бұрын
Hi! I believe relative detail is based on the zoom level, so if you're zoomed in close it should add more detail. some folks prefer constant detail instead (ie: the detail level is the same no matter your zoom level or brush size), to be honest I have no problem working in either.
@hawk4636 жыл бұрын
Cool! Thanks for the reply, I'll give relative detail a go!

why did you use boollean modifier and not just Ctrl+J to merge? is there a diffrence bettwen them? i will appreciate it if someone answers despite the late response
@RicoCilliers6 жыл бұрын
sorry for my own late response :) I use boolean because it actually "welds" the meshes together, that helps for the sculpting phase. simply joining the meshes causes issues with the dyntopo sculpting because of the meshes intersecting each other.

Sorry to ask but how do you subdivide the cube because I did what you said but nothing happened.
@RicoCilliers6 жыл бұрын
select the cube and press CTRL+1 to subdivide once, or CTRL+2 to subdivide twice, etc. if it doesn't work, select the cube and go to the modifier panel (the little spanner icon on the right hand side) and click on the modifiers menu and add the subsurf modifier.
@Al1987ac6 жыл бұрын
Fantastic tutorial! Thanks for doing this. Didn't understand one thing though. On 4:40 you added a cube and then suddenly it had all the modifiers from previous meshes. How did you do it so quick?
@RicoCilliers6 жыл бұрын
thanks! ah that seems to be an editing mistake. I accidentally cut the bit out where I added the modifiers. still, if you want to quickly transfer modifiers between different objects, simply select the mesh with no modifiers, then hold SHIFT and select the mesh that has modifiers, then press CTRL+L on the keyboard, and choose "Modifiers"
@Al1987ac6 жыл бұрын
Oh, I see. Thanks for the advice! This is really useful. Sometimes Blender is not so intuitive I wish it to be.
@Threshroge5 жыл бұрын
in my opinion, you messed up when you saved the lower jaw merged with the rest of the figure because now you have no control over its mouth..... all it takes to make a creature is, white spheres as eyes, the monster design including its upper jaw, and the lower jaw, three separate figures and files

Great Tutorial Video! I became a “subscriber” on your KZbin channel. You mentioned “moving to the tablet” for the Sculpting … Just what did you mean by that? Did you transfer this project from a computer to a tablet for the sculpting? Would like to know just what you meant by stating this in your video! And, if you did, would like to know how you accomplished this task!Thank you for your kind reply! 🤠

Hi! Sorry for the confusion. I actually meant switching from my mouse to my Wacom Tablet. If you're unfamiliar with it, it's just a pad with a touch-sensitive drawing area, it makes sculpting and painting somewhat easier than with a mouse. I use the Wacom Intuos medium size tablet. just google it for more info :)
