Hi Emmy, I'm an artist and I always enjoy seeing other people practice their craft. When I first started studying your work it really helped me out a lot. I had just purchased the Faber-Castell 120 pencil set and was wanting pointers from other artists about using them and to show me some tricks. I have learned so much from your work. It is amazing and because I have watched all of your tutorials, it makes me want to become better. You are in a class by yourself. I hope I can work with the Faber-Castell pencils as well as you do (I am having fun learning to use them). I wanted to comment on this drawing. I didn't know about the Uni-Posca and I bought one and it has really made a difference in my drawings. The way you create depth especially in this drawing is quite stunning; I also notice that you use it with you other drawings. I like how drastic it makes a highlight and it is hard to get that with other pencils. I look forward to your future videos! Thank you for showing how to use mediums properly. I am never going back to Prismacolor!

I'm glad to hear they help. I also started with the polychromos and didn't have a clue how to use them. I even tried to blend them with a blending stump ;) Later on I've learned that you have to layer with colored pencils. :)

Thank you very much Emmy for the tutorials amd showing the possibilities of using this medium. You have turned my otherwise unused coloured pencils into my go to medium for drawing portraits. However though, if it isn't too much to ask, could you please do a video on drawing black skin. I know you've done the spheres but I'd really appreciate seeing you do it in practice on an actual face. Me being based in Africa, most of my subjects are obviously black. Thank you very much. Keep up the good work.

Once again, you amaze me. How do you determine all the colors? Do you use a computer and look at the pixels? I just got the Polychromos 60 pencil set. Will see what colors will come close to what you used. It do have the 10% and 50% variations. Keep up the fabulous work.
@emmykalia8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I don't look at the pixels. I use my phone, that is next to the drawing. I just look at the colors and try them out. If it turned out too dark I go over it with lighter colors to make it lighter and if it's too light the same with darker colors. After a lot of practice you will know how the colors will turn out. I also have the polychromos 60 set and I bought 2 or 3 extra colors that weren't in the set. I think that was light flesh or cinnamon and earth green. I do use the luminance pencils for skin now because they blend easier than the polychromos.

Dear Emmy Kalia i like your tutorial video.... ehh may i ask you one thing ... when you use caran d'ache luminance colour pencil ... i want to know about the white colour .... if you put white colour as a next layer after dark blue or black maybe ... this white colour will appear or not ? because when i use Faber castell this white colour not appear on dark colour that is the weakness of faber castell i use ... thx before i wait for your answer my teacher ^_^
@emmykalia8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I would definitely recommend the white luminance pencil. The polychromos white doesn't do much. The white luminance pencil is very opaque and you can draw over darker colors like dark blue and black.

Ok i have a question....suppose you use a reference picture to draw a portrait..you see a certain kinda color on the cheek area....it looks like a certain kinda dark brown...you pick the brown pencil and start using it...but then it looks different...it eventually turns out to be that the area is not some kinda brown but is certain shade of red or mixed with some other color during layering...so how do u know exactly which color has to be used just as shown in the picture ? ...in short how do you judge which color is in the photograph....coz recently thought its light brown but then it turned out to be certain kind pink and red mix.....optical illusion...how do i avoid it and get exactly the same color as shown in he reference pic ?

which colors in the Caran d'ache luminance pencils do you use? I see they don't come in the exact colors that your video using the Faber Castell Polychromos for the facial colors had, or do they?
@emmykalia8 жыл бұрын
In the video you can see all of the names of the luminance pencils I use. The luminance pencils have different colors, I use the luminance pencils for drawing skin now because they blend easier than the polychromos. I did a skin tutorial using only the polychromos because the luminance pencils are more expensive and the most of you have polychromos. You could make a color chart with the colored pencils you have, that way you can see which colors you can use for the skintones.
@truthsetsufree8 жыл бұрын
