When your machine chunks like that it because it is full of fuzzy stuff from the mittens. Remove bobbin and throat plate remove all fuzz with a small brush. I use a craft paint brush. It's also helpful to oil machine often when using fleece and wools.😅

Yes, Laura, I am thankful I can do as much as I can with my right hand now. The ring finger is still limited in motion, I can't bend it all the way into a fist, so my grip is weaker, but considering they used to not even try to repair severed tendons between the bottom knuckle and the palm (they call it "no man's land") because it was unsuccessful, I am glad technology has advanced and they can get most of the movement and stability back now.

Just found this years after posted but thanks for the video. I like that the thumb is in front not just cut out the side like some. Just a tip in case anyone finds this later too is to hand stitch one little stitch in the thumbs and at the top through all layers at the seam so when you pull your hand out the thumb lining doesn't pull out. So annoying to try to get that thumb back in when you are putting them on.

I am so going to make these! I want to make a few pair to keep in a basket by my front door. Sometimes we have visitors who forget their gloves. What a great thing to offer them a pair. Also, after printing patterns I always trace my pattern onto white interfacing with all the markings. It clings to the fabric really well. And if I use it more than once it holds through unlimited use. Thank you so much for making this video!

Try using a walking foot for this type of material. I use it for stretch knits and it works perfectly. No tangles 😇

Hi. Should the lining for the mittens be thin fleece? I think the fleece I have is too thick.

I'm afraid I don't know the weight or thickness of the fleece I use, but it isn't super thick, just sturdy and warm with stretch. I think polar fleece or blizzard fleece or anti-pill fleece may be a few of the names it goes by. I wish I could be more precise for you. Just the normal stuff you find on the bolts at the fabric stores.

Hi Donna! Thank you for your question. I have used other wool fabrics, and they "work," but sweaters give the nice knitted feel and stretch that enhance the mitten experience. Because the mitten is lined, a thinner wool isn't a big problem, but I still recommend sweaters. Good luck!

I still struugle with the thumb when sewing the palm and front together. I get puckers!!

I sometimes have trouble with puckers where the seams cross at base of the thumb. I have to pick out the puckering stitches and then resew the seam crossroads with a hand needle. I still can't figure out exactly what I did wrong when that happens, but it is frustrating! One of these days I'll have an epiphany and understand what I did wrong. Until then, I hope for the best and use my seam ripper and hand needle when the puckers appear! Thank you for watching and for your comment.

Did you watch the whole video? I did tell what my problem was. When lifting the presser foot extra high to insert thick sweater material, letting go of the foot and hearing it clunk made me think I locked it down, but I didn't. I still had to push the lever all the way down to get it in the right position. It was because the presser foot was not all the way down before sewing that the bobbin end got snarled. There are many reasons for that to happen, but in this case, it was the presser foot. Thanks for watching, Jeanette!

Why do you make your mittens in three pieces instead of just two

Hi Connie! Sorry, I didn't see this comment until now. I much prefer to split the palm side of the mitten into two pieces because then you can mix and match fabrics making the mittens much more interesting, colorful, and textured. Two pieces would mean all solid one color or one pattern on the palm side. I think they look nicer having the thumb and palm split into two different sections. Thank you for your question!
