TUTORIAL: MGM Intro HD

Software needed:
Adobe After Effects CS4 or newer (CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6, CC...)
Blender 2.79b from download.blend...
Microsoft Office Power Point (version Office 97 or newer)
1.) Unzip the downloaded zip folder
2) Install the font file
3.) Open Power Point
4.) Change you title
5.) Right click border and click „Save as Picture..."
6.) Save it in your projects folder
7.) Open „Subtitle.blend" in Blender
8.) Press TAB and edit your title, press TAB again
9.) Click Animation
10.) Open MGM.aep in After Effects
11.) Click Composition, Add to render queue
12.) Click Lossless and change it from AVI to H.264
13.) Click Render

Yes! I tried several times. If you open your Powerpoint picture file, the white rectangle has your name arched across it. What I get after saving as a .png and opening in AE is the white rectangle with only the letters that are contained within it over the Lions head!

It's used for the masking. Universal and 20th Century do not use AE.

@hurricanehanger6000 You need After Effects, but I think you can mask this one yourself with Vegas, but as I don't have that software, I can't tell you.

On mac I use OpenOffice, Blender 2.78, and adobe after effects cs6

Try to reset the settings under Output module using the default H.264 settings (and check audio) after you have added the composition to the render queue.

1. Try the alternative MOV version. 2. Try specifying another save location, e.g. Documents.

@Khan3000ify It's part of the Microsoft Office bundle. If you don't have it, you can try out OpenOffice(.)org or LibreOffice(.)org, they both should work too.

Select the final composition, then Composition -> Add to Render Queue, then render.

@drejc13 Ah, that's normal. Just edit your text and then click out (anywhere else on the screen) and the font should change back. Arial is just the "edit-font".

You can try to open After Effects and then use File -> Open file.

@drejc13 After you've installed the font, you should be able to select it in powerpoint from the drop down menu.

The flickering green is caused by an error qith QuickTime and AE. Try installing Quicktime 7.6.

Thanks! That error mostly happens if you have not selected an Output saving location (click the link next to output and choose where to render to).

Yes. It's strange why sometimes AE puts the level to minimum. For best quality, use the highest level.

and each time i open it says you missing 2 files seens your last saved. can you help me with this problem. and it all so showing me some rainbow color on the side. i only able to see the linne but not the my title.

If you have the full version there should be a H.264 option somewhere, but yes, you can always you .avi or anything else really and recode it afterwards using other software like XMedia Recode.

Receiving error messages when I start to render. Beginning with: After Effects error: File 'MGM.mp4 cannot be imported -- this '.mp4' file is damaged or unsupported. Clicking 'OK' brings the following message: After Effects error: File "MGM.mp4" cannot be opened , it may be an unsupported format. Clicking "OK" then brings the last message: After Effects error: Rendering error while writing to file "C:\MGM.mp4" . Clicking "OK" then leaves the composition window blank. No intro.

When creating this, everything works. The only issue I have is when using Blender to create the subtitle, it doesn’t make it look like your video. Is there a way we can get an update version of this?!

I finaly managed to bring the MGM logo into After Effects. But when I click the render button I get this message: "You must have at least one render item queued in order to render". Can you help? Thanx

Just make sure you use the newest Blender version and there should be no problems.

All I'm getting is the audio, all the other tutorials have worked so far but this one is baffling me, edited on Powerpoint, edited sub on Blender, opened AE CS5.5 and it has to convert from 9.0.3(windows) but the screen appears (had to convert on all the other intro's as well) but the Lossless section shows AIF, I click AIF and change to H.264 the output changes to MGM.mp4 but all I get after rendering is the soundtrack no picture

@bodaboda12 Well, you should'nt change the output format. Leave it at PNG. Anything else won't work as good.

Sorted it, AE needs to be set to level 3.1+ for H.264 video. I found that out after a LOT of reading. I set it to level 5 and all was well. Thanks for the tutorial.

Try rendering as Windows Media (you'll have to set the quality in the codec, 12000 kbps bitrate, 100 quality, 1920x1080...)

when I open the file of MGM.aep in After Effects CS6 I get this message: "This project must be converted from version 9.0.3(windows) and will open as an untitled project. The original file will be unchanged". And when I click OK I get another message: "After Effects warning:3 files are missing since you last saved the project". When I click OK I get only color bars on my workspace instead of MGM logo. Can you tell me what I should do? Thanx

I was trying to open the MGM.aep in Sony Vegas, but for some reason(I must have clicked something wrong)it keeps trying to download in Photoshop CS6. I deleted the file, and re-downloaded, but it continues to try and open in photoshop, which it can't. Is there anyway to direct it to Sony Vegas?

+SurfCrewNoordwijk That seems weird. The brightness and contrast plugin is a default After Effects plugin. Maybe you should try reinstalling.

So sorry...I figured it out...Stupidly I thought you could get the same result in the Power Point part by selecting file-save as- etc instead of right-clicking the rectangle edge as you did! Just goes to prove that you should listen and follow the instructions without deviation! Anyway...thanks and sorry for waisting your time! BTW...I really enjoy the "under 3 minute" vids. Hi! The MGM Intro is great! For some reason, my Power Point picture1 does not behave like yours. When I click on the title, it stays in the curved display but still can edit it to my own title. I then save it as picture1.png. When I open AE the image just shows part of the text with the white rectangle behind it! ANy suggestions my friend? Thanks
