The term heat haze is a general one that speaks to the ability to resolve (see with the eye) objects at a distance through hot air. When the air between the object and observer is hot and a number of tiny areas of "difference of temperature" exist, each little slight variation in temperature sets up different interference patterns in the light reflected or given off by the object.

@mikkepalvanen What editing program do you have right now? There are many easy ways to remove many of the steps in this tutorial. If you can't motion track, just set the camera on a tripod before shooting. If you don't have fancy after effects filters, just use a luma key and a slight transparency to remove the black from a stock footage shot. Same with the haze. Doing glow effects on the environment is really fancy and mostly just an extra flourish, so if you can't do that, don't sweat it.

It's kind of nice to see how they have changed in terms of their audio quality over the last few years.

Most of us have seen this effect because it is sometimes used in film or television programs. Someone or something is coming toward the viewer (the camera) across a very hot desert or plain, and the figure can be distinguished as an individual moving closer, but details are unclear. As the person closes on the camera, he comes into better view. The heat haze has obscured him for a time, has kept details from the ability of the viewer to see them.

Instead of using the first image that comes up in an image search in Google for muzzleflash like Freddiew said, it's plenty more handy and customizeable to create a feathered white solid over a black solid with the white solid with 2 turbulent displace effects. The first has a size of about 8, and the second 3 or 4. Comp the two solids together then add the colorama effect with the output setting 'fire.' Put the comp over your footage and add or screen it. This works well, and looks MUCH better.

@moviesunrated Remember that this light is trying to get from the object to the observer, and the air is "messing things up" for the photons. The result is that the object isn't sharply defined or clearly visible, but is "fuzzy" off in the distance there. As air moves slightly because it is a bit hotter and less dense than nearby air, distant objects can shimmer and otherwise move in the field of view making them hard to resolve.

The pattern I've noticed between the two of them is these guys are more detailed-oriented; focusing on larger projects. Brandon and Freddie do weekly videos, and usually they use quirky ideas. The perfect comparison is CD's series Sync compared to FW's series VGHS.

Hi to export the smoke puff, you have first to trim the video in after effects and then render it out as a QuickTime Movie with these Codec: QuickTime movie PNG (best) or Photo JEPG Quality 100% Audio (Do not available it) Then render ;)

@TheAwesomeJassim You should already have a blood spray effect premade whether from the internet, or making it yourself, and it should have a single colored background (Green, blue, black, white). Then just change the alpha channels on it. You should be able to look that up. Try searching FCP greenscreen, or something around those lines.

Just a quick note: loved the tutorial but it also be cool if you provided us with the clip you used in the tutorial, even for the next ones. I know that maybe you don't want to share your clips but i think that a short clip to play along with the tutorial would be awesome. Please advise me. When I make muzzle flash on pistols, it shows me completely normal in vegas. I also have everything exactly fitted. But as soon as I render it, everything shifts and suddenly it doesn't fit as it should. In addition, I have dense colors there and it turns pale on my own. What can it be?

@TheAlexAndJerryShow I saw your comment was lost among others, but here's an answer for you. Pinnacle Studio can do LIMITED particle effects with Particular, and they do not have the ability of being motion tracked. I have Pinnacle Studio myself, and while I still use it for editing my actual movies, I gave up trying to do VFX in it, and got After Effects. Pinnacle is great for editing, and one of the better commercial programs, but it's not an effects studio. You NEED motion tracking.

go torrent the action essentials, but if you knew anything, you'd know it doesn't matter either way if you have a picture or video, because a muzzle flash is only suppose to be 1 frame long, so video or picture, 1 frame long won't make a huge difference
