Hi Everyone! Want to share my experience: I have bricked my MXIII 4. Tried to upload various Firmware versions with the Latest USB_Burning Tool 2.0.8, but i kept on getting the same failure in 95%. Eventually, it seems that the problem was with the burning Tool. Then I tried USB_Burning Tool 2.0.5.15 and it worked fine, I Flashed it with MXIII_114k4 version. I have an M8S box with PCB M8.V8_1 20150418 . I had bricked it when I tried upgrading to 5.1 version of Android about 2 weeks ago.. I followed instructions strictly as per this video and it worked for me. Wifi, Ethernet , remote all working. It comes up as M9 with version 4.2.. Thanks Ishan.

Thank you so much!!! firstly to say it worked for me (I've got MXIII 2G/8G same box with same board). I've done unbriking and flashing with stock rom (MXIII_111k4-20150803) my previous box (which was from same seller). But somehow this time that instruction and everything else done on previous did not helped me. after flashing with usb burning (unbricking and stock rom flashing) it loads to black screen after MBOX logo and then nothing, just black screen. Back up from you box helped me. Now box is in stock rom condition. No any other ROM I've tried helped me. Now I'm gona always make backup from boxes prior to try any ROM flashing. Main issue is that box should be unbricked to load to TWRP, after that restoring will return to stock rom. Thank you again.

i wonder why this process was so darn hard..after hours of looking at videos doing the exact thing and hours of trying different firmware finally got it to work ,thanks to you ..only wanted to update firmware to lloillpop ended up bricking the device..now got it up and going still need lollipop firmware... plus hearing their shuting down kodi..wow i can't catch a break!!!..i will be donating for your help thanks ..

Thank you for this video. I have been looking for 3 months for a way to revive my bricked Mx III. I've tried many firmwares and read tons of forum posts to no avail. Finally I came across this video. I opened my MX III and discovered that I have exactly the same pcb as you do. except for the heat sink, everything else is the same. The label also states MX III v2_0 20150526. So I got excited! +Ishan Perusinghe I've done all that. I have 3 versions of Burning Tool. I used two different laptops with Windows 10 (driver signature enforcement). I used a laptop with Windows 8.1 (driver signature enforcement). Finally I decided to install Windows 7 on one laptop to see if burning tool would work. None helped me so far. Same error code at 4% Formatting. I'm pretty sure we have the same board. I opened my box and compared with yours. I guess I will have to try Windows XP! hehe :P Thanks for taking time to reply...

I hope you're right. :) Nonetheless, I have to mention I am using the same USB cable I use to flash my Xperia M4. The cable is working properly with my Xperia. But I will try to use another cable just to be sure.

+Lawrence Patricio I also noticed just now that you are using an OTG cable connected to your laptop by a USB Male to USB Male cable. I use an ordinary microUSB to USB cable (from my Xperia phone). Does that matter?

+Lawrence Patricio No luck. I tried 2 different microusb cables from my two android phones. I also tried an OTG cable with a USB male to USB male connector. TV Box is recognized by windows but usb burning tool still fails at 4% "FORMATTING" with that error. Oh well, I'm now thinking my Box is fried! :(

This video is so close to a solution for me, but not quite. At 2:45 you actually get a blue light...mine's red...for life. LOL. I'm thinking there's no coming back from the red light on no matter what.

I have usb burning tools some years already and i have one tv box mxiii 1gb amlogic s802 with the red light, the real problem with this box is, is not detected on w7 and w10 i have tested with several versions off burning tolls and i cant do nothing.Even i have try the sd method same problem.My last test was with PROBOX2-amlogic-upgrade-tool and nops nothing.seems this box is really dead.Keep going with your good work

Hey Ishan, I bricked my MXIII-G/MXIII-Plus box.....I don't have an MXIII/M8S but I do have another MXIII-G spare box to mine that's not bricked. Similar situation as you. How did you make a copy/backup of the rom on the working box. Not sure if I can use your TRWP & Rom because its a different chipset and board (still Amlogic though) Thanks

Does not seem to work with the MXIII S812 1GB. When I have flashed the temp M8S ROM, the box wont boot. Stuck at the square "M8S" logo. It wont go into TWRP. I will have to test another ROM. Do you know how I should be able to flash TWRP to this box?

Before you attempt to open the box and short pins, I like to share an additional method that I have discovered to fix a software brick. If your Mbox turns ON with a Blue lit LED but doesn't seem to boot up, always has a black blank screen, won't take any SD or USB stick flashes/programming, throws E:/cache directory errors, and/or your Mbox doesn't get detected by your PC to use the Burn Tool. One trick to try is to use TWRP with the Burn Tool. Find the version of TWRP that works with your Mbox and install an old Burn Tool like version 2.0.5 if you have an older box. With your MBox OFF, insert your SD card with TWRP, and follow the instructions in the video above to set the Burn Tool to burn. However when holding the Reset button down for your PC to detect your MBox, let go of Reset when you hear your PC detect your device. Detection should happen around 10 seconds if you have TWRP working. When the Burn Tool detects the port your MBox is on, continue to flash your firmware of choice with the instructions in the video. You should be good to go! I have used my S802 MXIII 4K 1GB with Tronfy 116K4 firmware for years until I got fed up with the sound always going out. I did a lot of research on firmware options and soft bricked my MBox using Remix 115k4 firmware. I tried almost every method to recover my Mbox to no avail until I tried my bright idea above. In the end, Tronsmart 115k4 firmware worked great for my S802! On top of that, Kodi 17 using MyGica Media Center worked fantastically!! MyGica Media Center was developed for Kitkat 4.4. OK I have it downloaded on my sd card but when I do the update it finds the stock rom but it's not the same page as yours anyways I go to update from ext then to sd card then to your firmware then install then when it's done it goes back to where I can factory restore and that stuff so I reboot and still gets stuck on mbox main screen please help

Seems like it would be possible to load Android 5.1 on these? They seem to be identical to m8s+. Not sure though as they seem to be extremely new to the market place with this particular chipset. Or maybe Mxiii g 2gb lollipop. I'll have to check the WiFi that seems to be the only difference between the two?

I need to reinstall the firmware on my MXQ Pro Plus but there is no reset button in the A/V port and there is no power button. I can't boot because the drive was wiped clean. How do I reset?

From my own experience, its worth noting that if you have never loaded the Drivers beforehand. It could take upward of 90+ seconds before you get the Searching Drivers Alert from your Windows Device. During that time it very important to keep that reset, (and possibly the Power Button - Depends on how the Box wants to get into normal Recovery Mode), Button(s) held down. Otherwise Windows will fail to ever start searching for said Drivers. However once the search does start you can then let it go.

hi. i have 3 mxpro boxes that have gone to red standby light and will mot switch on. they were playing fine and my tv went into standby then my box did on its own and now wont turn on. same thing happened to all 3 :( they were all working fine before that aside from jumping back n forth through pages for no reason.... what does it mean to flash your box? i dont think i have done that. i havent really done much on there. aside from what the purpose is. i know nothing about any of this kinda stuff so please help in the simplest of terms thankyou

Internals say it's an mxiii s812a v4.0 ap6181 1g 8g, closest match I can find is a m8s firmware for s812 chip with 1g, searching for these specs end in a dead end as most firmware I find is for 2g. I can only boot to recovery menu with toothpick, will not do anything under normal boot only blue light.

In the first process adding temp rom I only get to 95%, haven't seen any theirs get that far and then stop, say support temp control, then turns red and say burning successfully but doesn't get passed 95%

+Ishan Perusinghe thanks for your reply your vid and thread are extremely helpful. I wasn't having any luck getting my laptop to see the box so I'm getting a new OTG cable today. Craziest thing is I was able to short one of the pins on the cpu and it bypasses the red light and I can power the box on. It will stay up and running for a while with my rom, none of that seems corrupt and then it just powers off. I have to figure out if it's a circuitry issue on the board or something else faulty or could the rom be somewhat corrupt and still need a new stock rom? I really don't care for these mxq boxes w the power on/off button it seems to be one more thing that could break.

Shenzhen ENY Technology Co., Ltd. These guys also known as eny have an Mxiii 2gb model listed with all specs noted on there website the pic lists 802 but under specs its lists as new upgraded s812.

+Austin ONeal At some point, the MXIII has undergone some upgrades the switch from the 802 to the 812, was hardly the biggest one however, as like the 802, there were many sub variations. The biggest of which would have been the 'H' variation (i.e. the Minix Neo 8x-'H' Plus vs the Neo x8 Plus). Both had (or have GigE, and 802.11 ac IIRC), but only the 'H' version could do 2160p (i.e. 4k), in full Hardware. Like the 802, the non 'H' SoC's could only run up to 720p though hardware.

Thank you... I used the burning tool you provided... But my box is a juning 7x... So I used an MXQ img... First had no remote or Internet connection.. Tried TWRP & lollipop update.... Didn't work.... Got a red light 😑.... Another MXQ firmware worked but still a red light.

One more comment... seems that my original firmware is different from Ishan's TWRP backup. My wifi chip must be different as my box runs but the wifi no longer works. I checked the ethernet hard wire connection and it works. Lesson learned is to always backup your original firmware before any updates.

That is is what I figured out too, I ended up emailing the eBay vendor where I got the box, they were able to provide the original firmware and everything works now.

Hi I am not sure if anyone can help but I was able to load aml_upgrade_ package to 100% but now my box will only power up with the usb cable and I can only get to the first screen with the logo if I unplug the usb and try the adapter I only get a red light on the box as long as I hold down the button as soon as I release it the light goes off and nothing any advise if the box is still salvageable thanks in advance

Hi Ishan, great work, i have the same board the only thin on the upper chip says AP6330, but anyways like you ive tried so many roms, but i have always the same error, [0x10105002] Romcode/Initialize DDR/Read initialize status/USB Control Setup probably you dont know, but if someone its in the same place, post the answer. I contacted the seller lets see if the anwer giving me the right firmware on image format.

Hi, there is a problem when restoring data and system from TWRP. It's says extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR=255.... Part 1 seem fine when flashing from burning tool. Maybe you can make a factory reset backup again using MD5 Chksum, could fixed my problem. Mine is AMlogic S812 MX3, MXIII 1GB RAM WIFI:AP6181 Thanks :)
