11:20 question: you connected the twist attribute via the connection editor. i was getting stuck on my rig with a weird problem using the advanced twist controls to use the objects up start and end option. Long story short, my Axes are properly set, my up vectors correctly defined, but the wist is already going to all sorts of weird directions. what you showed here could be a workaround to my problem, but it was a 1 to 1 connection with the twist attribute. is there a way i could alternatively control the twist in the same way you did if i wanted to use 2 controllers? 1 say for the shoulders, another for the hip?

I stopped doing rigging and animation last 2013 due to personal reasons and now I'm re-learning it again. The spine is kinda complicated to learn for me. When you created Clusters, I don't know if the Relative is turned on or off. I have a tut here that has a relative turned on and the other is turned off. I don't know which is better really :( I tried using the advance twist option which is kinda good but I wanted a tut as simple as yours that'll work. Kindly tell me if the Relative is turned on or off....thank you...

sir, could you tell me or provide any useful information about : 1. what is the best methods of spline control besides deformation (cluster to spline, your channel) and binding joint to spline (Maya Learning Channel)? The reason for this is, I wish to make the character to be resistance to history deletion. 2. if it possible, may I know how can I rig such as the quick rig tool in maya 2017 and 2018? A character that if you move your character's hand, the body and leg can go along with it, just like the result of the quick rig tool maya 2017 - 2018. Thank you

I'm a bit confused, why not parent constraint the controls to the clusters? I mean yeah parenting works clearly, but why not? To be honest i'm confused about the whole constraints vs parenting thing. I know what they do, I know the idea behind them, ie, regular parent doesn't eliminate child freedom, but when to use what is the hard part for me. Any tips?
@TheSamuel22137 жыл бұрын
Quick question. How would I parent the Backbend controller to the closest Spine controller? I need it to follow the spine as the controllers above in the hierarchy misalign once backbend is rotated.
@filthyweeb528 жыл бұрын
you can turn off the inherit transforms of the group where the IK handle and the curve is in then put the group in the main/super controller to make the outliner look cleaner

Hey Jason, do you prefer Blender or Maya? Maya is a bit unreasonable for the price but I'm now so used to the modeling, rigging, animating, and know all the basic with even professional terms and skills of Maya. Any advice on the products? Should I just save up for a perpetual license of Maya 2015 or wait for Maya 2016 to come out and buy that as perpetual license? Or learn blender? Much help appreciated, I'm very skilled in what I do.
@hakonschug93118 жыл бұрын
+Eduard Brichuk Do not get Blender, you may learn about basic modelling in blender, but its useless since nobody uses this software, ( trust me you'll just get laughed at in the company ) . But MAYA is the superior software in all industries in any kind of 3D production. the second would be 3dsmax also from autodesk. Maya is the better choice even if it costt alot, and if you just plan to use it as a hobby, don't buy it just get the free student version. if you try to be a freelancer, Modo could be a good substitute to Maya since it only cost about 1,500$ and is used quite often by freelancers. But Please Stay away from blender :D
@jethex35428 жыл бұрын
this is only halfways true. yes, Maya or Max are used in most companies, but knowing how to use Blender has one huge advantage: Free commercial use, which is not the case for the other ones. Especially for smaller companies and indie studios, this is a great advantage.

Sorry for posting this so long after your upload date, but whenever i try to move my lower and upper back controls, they only move up and down. When I rotate them, its fine.
@lazarkatanic88869 жыл бұрын
wait lol. I fixed it
@NiroVonPirro24559 жыл бұрын
I'm having a problem, and I'm pretty sure that it's because of the spline and clusters. When I rotate either the upper or lower body control, that part of the body does not rotate as far as the control itself. This is causing problems elsewhere, which might be fixed if the rotation was on a 1:1 ratio.
@DITERSA8 жыл бұрын
+NiroVonPirro2455 I know it's been a long time since this problem was issued.... I found the solution and I'm sorry for responding so late but I have just hours of started following this tutorial and actually making the rig. I found out that the problem resides in the curve created for the back as mine had only 3 vertex and you need at least 4. In order to make this work you just have to turn OFF the AUTO SIMPLIFY CURVE in the IK SPLINE HANDLE TOOL.. then you'll get a lot of vertex, just take half and half for the clusters or even you can take 4 and 5 (in case there are 9 vertex) doesn't matter. Then do everything again and it'll work...

Hi can someone please help me? I have rig working good and i followed this tutorial to set up controls and IK, I am left with my neck and head. I have the Ik handle created and made a curve to control it and parented the two and joined it in the master control curve group, but i have my eyes, a brain and a helmet that id like to follow my head. I can parent it but it doesnt follow the deformation. It moves forward but doesnt literally follow the head? Any help please? Thanks in advance??

When I apply the ik spline the affected joints get rotation values. This is normal? Is there away to avoid that? I guess that this happens because of the few control vertices. The curve can't match the joint position exactly. But working with more than 4 cv would be impractical... suggestions?

For some reason, when I try to parent the back clusters to the back control circles, the body/spine/curve won't move along with the controls. I see the cluster icon follow the controls & I can select the cluster individually and then move the upper/lower back as long as they are in world space, just not patented under the controls. Did I miss something here?
@HBProductions.9 жыл бұрын
"Parent" meaning mm drag & drop into the respective body control curve.
@JasonBaskin9 жыл бұрын
Hugo R. Becerra Sorry for the slow response. You'll want to make sure that your cluster options are in the default setting. If the "relative" option has been turned on, the back won't function properly. Also, make sure that you haven't accidentally deleted history on your IK spline curve. Hope that helps.
@viciousandchaotic9 жыл бұрын
+Jason Baskin Im having a problem that sounds the same as Hugo's. I checked the cluster options as well as the history on the curve, but those didn't fix it. anything else you can think of that I should check? I've deleted and remade it twice with the same results. maybe I'm doing it wrong, or maybe my skeleton has something else interfering with it. just to clarify, the cluster and the curve moves fine, but the bones of my back stay stationary. they don't seem to be connected to the spline?

Can somebody explain me why we delete the histery?
@utubeDiode9 жыл бұрын
The history is a network of maya-nodes that make the current state of your object. You can delete all these nodes by deleting the history. It leaves you with a clean object that doesn't have a cpu intensive network of nodes on it. Maya won't have to calculate all those previous nodes anymore.. You should always delete the history when your done with an object and when you're ready to move on to use that object a scene or rig. Tidy up! :)
