I like the Icom, and how it has a sound activated recorder and you can leave it to record stuff. great for channels with little activity, or when something interesting comes on. I like also how it has 2 independent tuners in it as well.

Can the ICOM scan multiple frequencies at the same time? Let's say I want to scan fire, police, and ems at the same time.
@OfficialSWLchannel10 жыл бұрын
Om it's 2 receivers in one .. so you can scan two different bands at the same time ... and also acts as a regular scanner ... scanning channels

ANY scanner can scan multiple frequency but only Communications Receivers (ICOM, AOR, ALINCO) have Dual VFO, this allows them to Monitor (not SCAN) two frequency, used by HAMS or Anyone with Simplex Radios.

Can you use a communications receiver as a ham radio receiver and is it just as sensitive.
@OfficialSWLchannel10 жыл бұрын
yes you can ... and most communications receivers seem to be more sensitive

SCANNER = basic radio, limited FREQ ranges, One FREQ display at a time, Trunking, Limited Search and Tuning Steps, Minimal or No Filtering. Communications Receiver = more Technical, Unlimited FREQ Coverage (this was changed in 1990's - FCC mandate to Eliminate Analog Cellular from ALL Radios), Dual VFO (Two Frequency at a Time, No Trunking, Frequency Bandscope, CTCSS and Tone Display, Unlimited Search and Tuning Steps, Multiple Filtering options. Generally more Sensitive.

FCC mandated in the 1990's, that ALL scanners/Radios had to have the Analog Cellular removed from the Radio. I have a AOR 1000, it can Receive 800mhz Analog Cellular. it was PRE BAN. you can Down Convert the 800 Mhz cellular to 500 Mhz but there is NOTHING to listen to . the ICOM is a Fantastic Communications Receiver but it cant Receive 800 Mhz Celluar per FCC Regulations.

And now a lot of theses radios are totally useless... because we have all these public service agencies that can't agree on *WHAT* digital format to use. Just like people were warning about back in 2000 when this nonsense began... P25? Version I? Version II? TDMA? FDMA? DMR? etc... etc... and most of them probably don't know what or when to use inter-agency channel anyways. Somebody with a brain should have stepped in and stopped this when they had a chance.

the AOR DV-10 can Automatically detect the Digital Mode. as a Communications Receiver is does NOT do Trunking. but you can still program Individual Frequencies.
