As always - this is really nice to see how a professional massage-therapist treats his clients. I'm really inspired to try these techniques.

I absolutely love your videos. They helped me so much while I was transitioning from student to therapist. My only critique is that this may work for men and some women, but as a female massage therapist with a bit more chest it makes it hard to remain appropriate when cradling the arm so close to the chest. I had to keep their arm much further from my body so as not to accidentally brush their arm against my chest and chance them feeling uncomfortable.
@MassageSloth5 жыл бұрын
That makes sense, I feel bad for not bringing that up! Let me know if you come up with any more adjustments to accommodate, that's important info that I can't experiment with directly. Thanks Heather!

I know this is late but I've asked female clients to use the opposite hand and cup their breast tissue and pull it more center. Especially if I explain what I'm doing and why.

As a woman seeing chiropractic he always says just beforehand is that okay, and then I feel no problem it feels totally therapeutic… I doesn’t feel like a man touching me. It feels all related to the pain that is bothering me all day …..
@faithingod97822 жыл бұрын
This was my first thought. I share this dilemma. My solution is to hold at the clients elbow, laying their hand at my elbow (in a sitting position) This allows me to prevent the clients hand or forearm from accidentally making contact with my body .

@@MassageSloth thank you .. I send you my prays when I think of u .. you have made me aware of my body. like, when I feel systematic pain in my body, I sometimes understand where I should touch to feel the muscle pain and work on it with my hands to feel better ... these videos r very empowering. I think all therapists should empower their patients with many tips. empowering the patient enables them to be better and willing to go on .

Now, there are 4 thumbs down!. Maybe jealousy?, maybe just a mistake, "un dedazo", maybe they have no idea about body movement, fascia work, physiotherapy, so they didn’t understand nothing. Who knows... I learned so much from this guy, I find his work impeccable and not only that, he is a very good teacher with a lovely vibe.

For female therapist...to hold the arm in this position, the therapist's breast area may be brushing against the client's arm! Any suggestions?

Had the exact same problem when I practised on my partner this evening. Not an issue with him obviously but not sure I could adapt to make it more appropriate for the clinic.
@govinraphael81103 жыл бұрын
If you or your client isn't comfortable with this, you can put a thick towel over your shouldr covering your breast : it creates a " fence" even if it s only psychologicalm it can be enough to create the appropriate distance you re looking after .

Hi, Excellent video!!! do you use a stool with wheels or without for this work?

How would you do this with people that arent exactly massage puppets? You know who I mean. The ones who straight arm it, move like a robot and hold their arms up, 'help' you move them etc..
@MassageSloth5 жыл бұрын
I can usually do it as shown, especially if I make my movements unpredictable. In other words, if you do repeated movements, the client might catch the pattern and start to assist. If you make it difficult to anticipate when you'll lean/drag and in what direction, many people will just lay down their arms, so to speak. Another option, if you can do so while respecting their personal space (just ask!), is to sandwich their forearm between your arm and your torso. For me the arm positioning looks the same, but I draw their posterior forearm into contact with my lateral ribs/upper abdomen for the parts where I'm rocking my torso. When I want to draw their arm downward or otherwise do a stretch, I detach the hold temporarily, then sandwich it again when I resume the rock. This can also work for the upward arm position with some alterations. If this is likely to get into your personal space, you could put a pillow and/or towel between your body and their arm; adjust as needed.
@ericgrimes26085 жыл бұрын
@@MassageSloth I do the same! I try to make my intent and path as transparent as i can, and sometimes quickly explain what i am about to do so they are not caught off guard.

@MassageSloth6 ай бұрын
Just think of it as play and experimentation rather than needing to follow my exact hand placements and steps. Gentle movement of the arm, gentle grasping of the shoulder, and letting her tell you when something feels right or feels uncomfortable. If you consider it play, you'll get it in no time.
