Brilliant tutorial! Managed to remove the back without breaking anything! You're right about the adhesive holding the panel in place - a real challenge to separate. I would suggest heating several times to allow heat to penetrate. Once the cover is approaching the ouch moment on a finger, stop, wait, then repeat. One suggestion - once the clips are separated - slide a blunt blade (I used a scraper/pallet knife 2-3cm wide) into the space between the battery cover and the back panel and gently slide side to side to separate. Remember the battery cover clips! If these aren't released you will likely destroy the metal cover. Just ordered a battery. My battery was dated 2011 so a fair innings!

A trick that I learned is that IPA can dissolve the adhesive. So one could put drops of IPA around the battery and slowly lift up the battery, while putting more drops of IPA until the whole battery is lifted. No need to use force and having the risk of damaging the battery.
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS1012 жыл бұрын
Good point, however I wonder if the IPA would negatively effect the other components inside the device.
@KK-gi2mm Жыл бұрын
Surely you don’t mean India Pale Ale? This is the only IPA I am aware of. Please clarify. Seems like a waste of good beer otherwise.

@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Thank you so much for this incredibly detailed tutorial. Thank you SO much! I just replaced my 4th gen battery for the first time using your video! The only thing is, even going slow, I still broke 3 of the 4 outer hooks :( Not completely, so the back still snapped back on. I also ripped one of those thin brown papery connectors (I'm not sure what it's called) - so one pair of buttons doesn't work :( Not sure if that can even be fixed. Still, my mistakes aren't because of the video of course! I still really appreciate this - thanks again!
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS1012 ай бұрын
I am sorry that you ended up breaking these parts, but at least you have a working unit now. About the tabs on the back no big deal since the back panel still snaps in. About the two buttons not working there is no easy fix other than replacing the parts which is very involved and requires good repair skills. Also the part is not easily available so you will need to buy a broken unit with a broken screen on eBay and use it for parts.

Thank you for your detailed instructions. One question remains and that is what battery to get. I found a few on AliExpress and on Amazon. My battery isn't completely dead yet but it drains itself to zero within a week no matter how much I use my kindle. Greetings from Austria :)
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS1018 ай бұрын
Greetings from the Sunny California. Unfortunately Amazon is not selling the original battery, and they have stopped supporting these older models. So your only option is to get the aftermarket brands from AliExpress. However try to get the one with the most number of star ratings. Also search eBay they might have it locally in Austria.

Hi. Any chance you can replace micro-USB with Type-C port in my Kindle 4th gen?
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS1012 жыл бұрын
The footprint of each port type is different on the main board surface, so you can't change it. However, you could use an adapter like this one www.ebay.com/itm/394197675003
@vinen2 жыл бұрын
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 thanks. Yeah, adapter I am aware of. I just saw several videos on KZbin where people are replacing the socket itself on different devices. I just do not have proper skills (and tools) fir that.

@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 The Kindle worked so well and then yesterday it did not pick up a file I sent it from Amazon, so I did a reset that has worked before and now "Your Kindle needs repair" is on the screen. @@pronkerpronker6708 Most likely the mainboard has gone bad, it is not really worth fixing it. So I recommend that you buy a used one on eBay and replace the mainboard. For example below is a link to a used one for $9.99 which has a bad screen, but the mainboard is good. You can buy it and take out the mainboard and install it in yours. Here is the link www.ebay.com/itm/265251207672
