I like to put marabou instead of the hackle. It’s definitely a cool pattern that I’ve always wondered how to make. Now I know.

Excellent my friend! The only criticism (good) if I could share is to use a White background color. It will make the hackle and chenille easier to see? Otherwise, excellent tie and simple. Thank you for sharing....

Very good tutorial one thing I like to do is place the hook in the vase so that the point is not exposed nothing more aggravating than accidentally pressing the Fred passed point cutting off

That is a good idea! That's totally never happened to me, ever. In fact, I have no idea what you're talking about. ;)

Awesome tutorial! What is that tool called that's holding the thread? I'm going to try this! Buying jigs gets expensive.
@FishandForage4 жыл бұрын
Dude totally... 3-5 bucks a pop takes its toll very quickly! The thread holder is called a bobbin. I would recommend scouting out craigslist for fly tying kits to get started, but they also sell decent starter kits in the stores, too.

What thread do you use?
@FishandForage2 жыл бұрын
Most of my new thread is "Ultra Thread" but I have a few spools of older stuff that I got when I bought a big bundle of tying material.

@@FishandForage What thickness do you recommend for jigs?
@FishandForage2 жыл бұрын
@@adamnoga-styron7882 For jigs I normally got pretty thick(210 or 280). Steelhead have gnarly teeth and the hooks are pretty big, so I am not worried about the thread being too bulky or anything.

doing it the hard way, spending way to much time. the black tail can be pretied 10 times faster.

What's the better way? I'd like to save some time if I can!
@raybly66135 жыл бұрын
@@FishandForage use ultra chenille micro black with strung Chinese 5to 7 inch black you can pre ties these 10 at a time so much faster watch this kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWq6mYGGa5mdirM also lay down your base first go to the tail second red yarn third then do the red band last having all that tied on at once is tough to do. I can tie one in 1.5 minutes. hope this helps. btw using that medium hackle for the tails makes them to bulky in my opinion, that's if you want them to look more like the aero jig which I figured you were trying to do. also you can use black rabbit fur for the tail it works just as good.
