Thanks! Its great to know that these techniques translate to other packages and these principles will work in any compositing program.

Nice. Although I would say it'd be easier to paint the rod that holds the helicopter a bright green and just key it out. Saves time -imo... Nice work tho.

"Frame by painful frame." Indeed! But even though its painstaking, its worth it for the final outcome. Tedious, but very beneficial in the end.

Im a commercials director, living in Cape Town. But Im fairly new to the directing world, Ive spent the last 10 years doing post production and VFX (using After Effects mostly).

@tekarts. Last time I checked, It was not about the software, But the Artist. I started on Combustion back in the day and moved over to AE simply because it is the perfect generalist comp system. Nuke is very VFX orientated where AE is way more versatile. There is very little you cant achieve in After Effects.

Absolutely - that is one of the reasons. If this had been shot on chroma with real world spinning blades then you would have to deal with trying to chroma motion blur. Also... I wasnt going to install a tiny electric motor in the tail of the helicopter to make the tail rotors spin. Seemed easier to go the digital route.

Great video 👍 Quick question please. How did you move the rotor blade whth the helicopter? Because you didn't create any keys to the rotor going up, like the helicopter?

Blender and modeling uhg!! Wish I had the time to learn it. Downloaded Blender, but very complicated. Eventually I'm going to have to buckle down and learn its ins and outs only going to take me about two years + : (

Am I correct in assuming you're using CG rotor blades to avoid complicating the chroma keying? I mean, if I happen to have a model with rotating blades (and a green screen), would it be much harder to work with that than doing it this way?

No shadow of rotating blades is visible on Helicopter's shiny pilot's canopy and upper portion of jet-set.

couldn't you make the pole holding the model bright green and key it out; Instead of animating the mask?

No ways tekarts, After Effects is a fantastic tool. Nuke is something else entirely for a more specialized work flow. Nuke is amazing but you cant even compare them. Also Nuke costs A LOT more than After Effects. After Effects is way more flexible than Nuke.

How i do it without video copilot 3d elements?
@IndependentVFX10 жыл бұрын
Julian - you would either have to do your blades in another 3D package (like Blender) or you would need to shoot the model with real-world rotating blades (using a tiny electric motor).
