In the midi world we discover so many dedicated programs every day that we would like to know them all. As a midi player I also choose Van Basco but there is also the pro version Optimize X which has interesting things. In a video tutorial I tried to review most of the midi programs, some less known to the public. In conclusion, for any problem there is CASPER!

Hello, I have a style that I created in REAPER in MIDI format. I load the MIDI file into "MIDI Song to Style", delete everything in "Edit", and define the measures for the Intro, Main, Fill, etc. I also define the channels. I set the bass to "Active Main" and when I save it in .sty format and load it into the Yamaha PSR SX900, the bass line does not follow the chords correctly when I play. What am I missing or what is the mistake? What do I need to do in the program to make the bass play correctly, as it does in the MIDI file?

I can't tell what it is because I can't hear the Bass playing in the MIDI file, but I can't hear the conversion result either. If I had your example, maybe I could find the answer. The only advice is to try playing that bass yourself in Style Creator.

Hi, thanks for all the videos you make. I want to ask something related to expansion packs, please. I have just bought Yamaha PSR SX920. It comes with some expansion pack inbuilt. I want to find out how to *add other expansion packs to it (the ones that you get when you register your keyboard on yamaha's website like Church and Christmas, etc). Every time I try to install the pack, it tells me I have to format and lose those expansion packs that came with the keyboard (like Africa, Latin America, etc). How do I add those new packs without losing the old ones? Thanks for your help!

It can contain everything you need, and it can include pre-installed packages and various others that you can download from Yamaha's website. @@honzakalivoda6609 MIDI file sometimes does not have all the necessary parameters entered. GM standard MIDI will be heard fine, but it may happen that the drum channel is not heard in the MIDI Song to Sytle application. XG Optimize will set all necessary parameters for the Yamaha standard and also delete unnecessary information in the MIDI file.

You can also work with Expansion Voices but you should have a List Voice for them. That's why I suggest you convert from Preset Voice in MIDI Song to Style and then add your voices in the Style Creator of the keyboard.

Hi Casper, Thank you for efforts. I have a question about using two MIDI channels on one part of a style. For example, in Intro3, I want to assign two different channels (e.g., trumpet and organ) to Phrase1 but they won't play simultaneously during the intro3. I usually achieve this with StyleMagic software, but I’m curious if this is possible with Yamaha Midi2Style. Could you please explain if and how this can be done? Thanks, Alex

One Part in a Style can only play one channel. You can put two different sounds in one Part but they cannot play at the same time. Have you thought about that?

I think you probably forgot that most of Yamaha factory styles using two channels for Bass, Chord1&2 (one channel taking care of Minor chords and the other channel for Major chords and also using two channels for Phrase1&2 in some styles with different voices. I myself making styles like that using Stylemagics software but it seems that I can not do that with Yamaha Midi2Style.
