Welcome to a NEW series on Pas de Deux in ballet! My fiancé Christopher Sellars is going to take you through 4 episodes of very basic but in-depth partnering tips. Pas de deux work was his specialty as a dancer, and he is a BRILLIANT teacher and coach. This episode is about the basics of feeling your partner's balance and keeping them on their leg. Please be careful but enjoy!
*Attempt partnering at your own risk. Not suited for dancers under the age of 12. Women should have been on pointe for over 2 years.

Yep! I am. I've always wanted to learn pas but that's very hard to do when you get up in age. Maybe one of these days one of the ladies at our Studio will want to try and learn it with me. Haven't seen any classes for us older folks though.

Thank you Chris for the disclaimer about male/female roles in PDD! ❤️ In my classes we are 98% women, so traditional PDD are not feasible because one man can’t partner every woman. But all of us are open to partner another woman and I think that‘s great and doesn’t take anything away from the traditional pas de deux!

This was incredibly interesting ! Following ballet for 40 years and first time I’ve gotten a look into HOW! (Maybe I shouldn’t say this but as stuffy as the average person thinks ballet is, there’s nothing more sexy than the classical dance for two, the give and take, the trusting and submitting, the conversation without words.)

What’s the most telling is how much a the woman / person on pointe at this level just knows to trust their partner. This was most evident when Chris was showing the bad balance with Mia.

I am trying to get en pointe and am now taking 5 times a week! I am really inspired by you to keep trying!!!! Sometimes its discouraging because I see all these girls in my class en pointe and I am not there yet. I am doing your pre pointe video 3x a week in addition to my regular classes. Thank you for always being so helpful Kathryn Morgan!

Thank you for posting this excellent class. I wish Christopher would address the myths behind partnering, like a ballerina needs to be extremely thin for her partner to lift her, or the height requirements between dancers. It would be informative to know the dynamics of partnering and strength needed for both women and men. Thank you

Hello, I noticed in the retire position, when the girl is going forward with the left leg up, the gentleman on the right used his right leg forward stepping and the one on the left used the left leg forward stepping. Does it matter for balance purposes? Would stepping back matter when having the ballerina tilted back? Thank you for these videos, own a ballet studio in nowhere land, PA and being a female I don't know all the subtle things the partner needs to think about which the ballerina on pointe.
