Clips from the bad episodes. Remember, if there's an spatial anomaly it's always trying to communicate! Episode Name: Twisted Aired: October 2nd 1995

My first thought, "That's a hell of a way to communicate." Then I remembered/realized - in the act of talking, we distort space too, with our sound waves. Whoa.
@AlanGresov3 жыл бұрын
Well not quite, by speaking we're shifting pieces of matter that occupy space, but whenever we communicate electronically, we do create fluctuating electromagnetic waves, which unlike sonic waves, are waves carried through the medium of empty space, and actually act to distort space as they travel, in the electric and magnetic sense, so from the perspective of a charged particle, radio waves do bend and stretch out space.

Some episodes of Star Trek used to scare the crap out of me as a kid, such as the DS9 episode where a Pah’Wraith possessed Jako Sisko and a Bajoran Prophet possessed Kira and they had an anime-style energy fight on the station promenade. This episode was another one that scared me because of how Captain Janeway was affected by the anomaly. But I’m glad I kept watching through. Still a Star Trek fan.

It's why most people hate photos of themselves, we are used to seeing ourselves in a mirror which is a reversed image. But when you see a photo taken of you, you always see yourself different. A lot of cameras on phones actually invert the picture as well. Which is why if you take a selfie while in lets say the driver's seat, when you view the photo it will look like you are in the passenger seat.

I just watched this episode a few nights ago, (I had followed most of Voyager from its original airing back in the '90s---guess a few episodes slipped through the cracks.) When Chakotay is attempting to contact his spirit guide, and says to B'Elanna, "We might be in for another long journey"---I immediately thought of our own lives---both corporeal and spiritual. We're born, live, and die---and that in itself is a journey. After we die, I believe we return "home"; until we return again in another corporeal existence. That in and of itself may be a "long journey" as well. I wonder if that's what Chakotay meant with that one, poignant line.

@@sephservant yea upn wanted the show to be contained with little ongoing stories. They wanted it so you could air reruns out of order and people wouldn’t be confused or lost. So silly. Season one should have been spent beefing up Ocampan home world so they could become self sufficient. Working with them and Neelix to build up resources for the eventual start of the trip towards home. Have Kazon testing them and trying to get Ocampa. Maybe Janeway negotiates and finds other local inhabitants who don’t like Kazons and are willing to help cooperate and work together as a kind of new mini federation. A lot of this was done but Ocampa was forgotten right away. So many of the first season episodes could have happened. Season two could have also still happened, with them moving away, maybe still leading to Basics as a season ending. Cause Kazons were factions weren’t they, maybe Janeway helps unite some but you have some that still hate the new power dynamic, and chase Voyager- the same group Seska joins. Anyway. Yeah so much of those first two years could have been built upon. Visiting planets to get supplies and resources, build defences like torpedoes. Cause they know their route will take them to Borg space eventually… and other hostile areas. That’s information Neelix would have been able to provide. But not being able to have too many arcs hampered the premise a lot.
@mitchellmelkin40782 жыл бұрын
@@sephservant, Not necessarily. Although not referenced again, it seems reasonable to me that some of that data might have provided the impetus to observe certain civilizations or unusual spatial phonemona along the way (or conversely, led them to avoid others). @@MackerelCat, That's hard to dispute, though as I believe many have pointed out over the years, there are elements in the concept of the former, which might have been much more engaging if some basic guardrails or breakers, had been put in play by Voyager's scientific consultant. 🙄 🙄 🙄 Still, there may be about just as many fans who insist that Threshold has been officially stricken from canon, or should be. I disagree, as even taking its execution into account, I find several moving moments to enjoy, and there's always its inherent value for Janeway/Paris shippers. 😄 😄 😄 Interestingly, the essential premise is rather similar to the original Lost in Space's 1st season episode, A Change of Space, though with markedly less grandiose evolutionary consequences depicted. Anyway, my take is that False Profits is so grossly guilty of falling back on lazy and stupid tropes, along with soporific exposition detailing the alien culture, that any value provided by the connection to established ST continuity, in explaining the Ferengis' presence, is reduced to an afterthought.
