@@mromneyobama The glasses free 3D display technology has been developed very well. There was headache on early product if you watch long time, now not at all. It is so pleasant even if you watch on a moving vehichle, or airplane. I have tried with 3D smarphone and 3D tablet, I cannot stop watching. 5:24 I think they stopped making those too soon. I remember seeing 3D TVs for just about 2-3 years and then one day they suddenly disappeared, which is sad because even if first few generations didn't meet selling expectations, if manufacturers would continue making them (even in small amounts) - 3D TVs could have an option to make a come-back, but they just killed them too soon..

3D tech was always framed as "clunky", "goofy looking", "gimmicky" across the board from the very beginning. Articles, reporters, film critics, reviewers would dazzle at the maturity of the medium, but they would always frame their opinions from the starting line: "Despite the dorky looking glasses, IMAX 3D has really impressed me in the latest installment of..." and it's no wonder why America and Canada were the first markets to spitefully ban 3D showings while other countries continued to offer the option. If you didn't speak English, you weren't tainted by a "condescending" attitude imposed by the media itself.
@barebarekun161

Dorky looking? Who the hell cares about how you look while you watching movie? What a stupid complaint. To this day still nothing touches IMAX 3D even my experience with an older thick white IMAX 3D glasses system it was truly the screen popper 3D fishes were swimming past me with depth. The closest thing to IMAX 3D were the huge 7 stories tall Digital IMAX screen but it was cheating at that point and the whole floor have to be raised. Still can't get over how they killed 3DTV so fast after the Avatar fever I still have mid range Sony 3DTV too bad the panel failed.

I absolutely believe that Samsung was the reason for 3D TVs not being accepted as he said they were the biggest and still are and they were forcing people to use a sub-par technology (expensive and uncomfortable electronic glasses) because it was cheaper for Samsung to implement than the better tech that LG had. This may of been done on purpose through the usual means as it would help them to keep their prices lower, but I have no evidence to support it. I really do wish they would bring it back as it is better than ultra-high def that has no content and doesn't actually do anything to help the picture, unless you are using it as a monitor.
@barebarekun161
@barebarekun161 2 жыл бұрын
@@badbill19 Everyone was into cut the cost of 3D TVs so bad that it affects the performance and 3D experience and when I looked back at it the prices weren't nearly as bad as today's 4k sets talking about cost cutting they sure took their time with 8k sets which sounds impractical to most homes. I think only Panasonic and LG were the ones with best 3D on TVs while Sony pushed it the most but their 3D tech are inferior they have the marketing but just showcased on products that don't demonstrate well or efficiently, I was cringed that they tried to pushed 3D to gaming with 24 inch Playstation branded 3DTV. By the end Samsung was the one that do sales on their 3D sets that costs no more than $500 and these are mostly 40 to 55 inch.

I have a Sony passive 3D (polarized glasses) TV and an Optoma active 3D (shutter glasses) projector. I find the active scheme provides greater depth with no crosstalk, but I enjoy both and the passive is more convenient. The last 3D TV made by LG (about 2016?) was also 4K, which would be awesome to have both (I never experienced this). As you stated in video comments, manufacturers have done a poor job of marketing features: first HDTV, then 3D after many had already invested in a regular HDTV, then dropping 3D to push the new bright shiny object, 4K TV. I hope there will be a comeback in manufacturing 3D 4K TVs since titles continue to be released, once manufacturers start looking to differentiate their product in a market saturated with 4K 2D TVs.

I appreciate your content in addressing this very important issue. I am also a 3D "holic," if you will, and I hate the direction that the tv and cinema industries have been going, in regards to this matter. It actually infuriates me.3D technology is a very viable form of home entertainment. It has truly enormous potential to both change and enhance our viewing experience, unlike any other existing format, now or ever!!! And for action based movies and gaming, nothing rivals "the 3D experience." I understand that some individuals may experience some difficulty in viewing 3D content, but they are a very small minority.And there are others that have visual impairments that would render them unable to view this content as well. These are the exceptions, not the general case.I disregard the negative opinions of individuals that think 3D materials are a waste of time and money, because I realize that these are the kind of individuals that don't know any better. I,ve known about, and involved myself with 3D content, going back to the early 60,s.I,ve seen its evolution since the rather crude, and almost laughable renderings of analglyph, ( old school ) to today's advanced stereoscopic version.This version represents in my opinion, as much advancement, as 4Koverall picture quality is to early analog color tv. I,ve been around long enough to have fully observed all of the transitional changes and phases, and this is why I really know what I,m expressing about here. It seems that people don't always know what they've got, until it's gone!!! I strongly believe that the 3D medium ( tvs included ) hasn't been given a fair shot, neither with the industry, nor with the general public.And for those of us that truly care about 3D content, and 3D physical media, we need to find a variety of effective means of communicating this sentiment to the powers that be, ect. If we don't want to see a medium that we love come to naught, we,ve got to fight for it, or one day 3D world will unfortunately become an "obsolete" relic of the past. Please forgive my passion, but I won't apologize for my conviction and dedication, to the preservation of this relevant medium of home entertainment.....

I think the biggest problem with 3D TV was in the way the marketing types tried to sell it to us. They were telling us that 3D was "The NEW way to watch TV!!" instead of "an _ADDITIONAL_ way to watch _some_ things on TV now and then." OF COURSE people aren't going to want to wear the glasses every time they watch TV and lots of people thought that by buying into 3D they would be helping make that happen. I actually overheard some dolt in a store tell the TV sales kid that he "didn't want a TV that has that 3D thing." A similar thing is happening right now with VR. There are those who seem to think people are going to ditch their computer monitors and phones and wear VR or AR headsets or glasses instead. Nope, that's not going to happen. That doesn't mean VR isn't ABSOLUTELY FREAKING AMAZING for experiencing certain types of content in a truly immersive way that you just can't get on a 2D screen. It just means those people are wrong about what VR *IS* good for.

At the height of the 3D TV craze, when it was almost impossible to buy a new TV that WASN'T 3D at any of the major, general merchandise retailers, a stroll down the aisles of discs would yield a relatively small selection of 3D content. And what was available was ridiculously over-priced! When every set sold at WalMart, for example, was 3D, but their disc shelves had *maybe* a dozen 3D titles, it's no wonder 3D TV was a doomed fad.

Very disappointed that 3D home TVs are not considered to be profitable by the Large Screen TV manufactures. I currently have an LG 65 inch OLED with 3D that I have had for about 5 years. It does not have HDR capability and I would like to one day soon upgrade to not only a monitor with HDR capability, but perhaps even a larger screen. I have loved the OLED technology for its presentation and thin screen physical properties. I am disappointed in the market move towards sound options and other smart TV features. I have always used separate audio/video receivers (Onkyo) and wall mounted speakers for my room's sound control and most of the special smart features are incorporated in my Blu ray or other internet interface devices. I see not improvement in including these features in my Monitor. I do want to be able to continue to watch quality 3D movies and other media content and would like to be able to do so in the future. The monitor I use now will not last for ever.

I am a fan of 3D movies, although I would say they make a movie different, rather than better. I have a 55 inch Panasonic TV, one of the last plasma's made, which uses active bluetooth rechargeable 3D glasses which are very light and the bluetooth prevents loss of synchronisation that you seem to get with IR glasses when you look away from the screen. Although there are now virtually no, if any, movies that are filmed in 3D, the post-production 2D to 3D conversion is very impressive and so has made producing 3D movies less of a hassle. It will be a shame when my current TV dies as getting another one looks like it won't be possible, maybe someone will come out with a plug in 3D converter that will work with current TVs.

What makes me angry, is that I'm sure it costs little to nothing for LG to keep passive 3D on their current TVs. Their screens are 120 Hz which is perfect, the resolution is high, they just need to have the software putting the pictures together and polarize the image. This is beyond me. I see why active 3D died, but passive 3D could have been kept alive with very light costs, and if LG maintained 3D, I'm sure they would have more customers. I'll keep my old 3D TV as a secondary TV for when I move to a bigger apartment with a separate room, but for now it will have to sleep in it's box for several months, now that I have bought a new 4k TV, that's a shame.

Love 3D TVs. I use them for my gaming station, Movies, etc its very versatile as well. its a shame companies are not developing 3D. I would say lot goes to the marketing. Mostly sales executives at every store used to say you dont need to pay extra for 3D and would encourage to get a bigger 2D screen instead. its a shame that companies stopped producing 3D screens and blaming it on demand. it was a poor marketing. I think its a revolution and we need them back. I think its time now. I have know many people wanting a 3D screen after experiencing mine.

Had a Sony 3D full HD of “42. I could not even digest my food without watching a 3D cinema. Back in 2017 November the panel of the TV was completely spoiled. Sony then had suggested that would replace the panel and therefore I only got to pay the panel’s price. They later had me updated that the 3D TV has stopped manufacturing and all its parts that included the panel. My TV could not be repaired. I was heartbroken and most reluctantly had to accept the offer of a 4K TV. Had tried my level best to find out a 3D TV but no fortune.

I purchased a 3D TV in 2012 and in 2015 somebody stole it for me, I've been looking to buy another one but found out they don't make them anymore, I think the companies did not advertise them on television enough that's why not enough consumers purchase them because they didn't do enough advertising
@Egypt_Cat_Of_Denial

The reason why "us the consumers" didn't purchase them when the TVs first came out is be they cost a thousand dollars or more..for a low grade 3d TV at the time. I was waiting for the prices to go down and become more reasonable before making such a purchase but then they discontinued them altogether. I would have given them my money, once I had it...which I do now but...they took away that option for me.

The Looking Glass Portrait display seems to pretty popular. Hopefully, this might lead to a resurgence of 3d, eventually. Someone did a port of Doom for it where you have the ability to look around corners with your head due to the way this display works, which you can't do with traditional 3D.

I've owned a 47" LG 3d set that I bought in 2011. I have some 60 3d Blu Ray's including just about all of the available 1950s releases. All the films except maybe two look fantastic. I continue to get 1950s 3d Blue Ray's as they become available. I am glad 3d Blu Ray's (and 3d Blu Ray player) are still sold. I certainly hope 3d TVs return before I have to get another set. I will also add that I have zero interest in active 3d. I hope any future sets are either passive, or if technology permits, glasses free. (as long as it's as sharp and as nice an experience as passive 3d).

I could swear to anything you'd belive in that I have not yet witnessed anything as beautiful as Shadow of Tomb Raider in 3D. I swear that this game in 3D was even more beautiful than Red Dead Redemption 2. For anyone that doesn't belive that 3D should have ruled the market, I just simply urge you to play SOTR in 3D. What I don't get, is that the technology necessary to implement 3D in a TV, isn't incredibly expensive once it has been mass-produced. I'm not entirely sure why it hasn't just always been included like how USB ports seems to be always included in a TV. I just don't get why it was never mass produced to the point that it was just an expected cheap extra. Especially the active shutter transmitter would be incredibly cheap to implement if mass-produced.

As mentioned: bulky active glases are a disadvantage. Linear polarization easily cause cross feed. Best is passive glasses, rotating polarization. I have been to cinemas using linear polarization, thats bad, your eyes and brain get tired. My local cinema use potating polarization, thats a lot better, not as exausting. My TV seems to use some kind of linear polarization and active glasses. They ate not too bulky, but just the smallest tilt cause cross feed.

From my limited understanding you don't need a dedicated TV. Any 4K TV should work fine with polarized 3D glasses. The problem is standardization. There isn't any. Recently, I had my prescribed sunglasses on at a train station. I tried to read the train times on a luminous sign, but, noticed that it was all black as I got closer. I realized that the sign was filtered by a polarizing screen protector to stop glare from making it unreadable. It just happened to be the wrong polarization for my glasses. Again, no standardization! 8K and 16K TVs will make passive 3D mainstream because losing half the resolution to polarization won't matter as much.
