I had two goons knock at my door, asking to do a survey of electrical equipment, I agreed. After the 3rd or 4th question, they asked about tv programs. I asked them if they were from tv licensing? They said they were. I lied and said I don’t have a tv. They said ‘it’s our standard reply to that statement, do you mind if we verify that by entering your premises’. I gave them my standard response F Off! I followed them down the road, and shouted TV Licensing, when they knocked at neighbours houses. They promptly left my street

I had one dressed as royal mail minus the logo. He even had a red bag. He approached me as if to sign for a parcel on his machine. He didn't identify himself or say I actually had a parcel just the way he acted. I instantly new this bloke was a scum bag inspector. He initially refused to say who he was, shut the door as soon as he confessed. Had another one put his foot in my door when I went to close it. Swiftly told him to remove it before I do. In order to represent yourself you need to comprehend the legal system, if you do comprehend the legal system at all, then you would not even be in court to explain why you don't have a to licence. @@PastPresented thats good advice, I used the blacks law dictionary combined with educational legal and law programmes. I also learned first hand experience with going to courts. Hence ive represented myself the past twenty years, from basic police stops to police trying to frame me for something I was looking at 25+ years for... So I think I'm pretty comfortable with my educational background and experience in law and legislation 👍👍👍 But people who watch a few videos and believe they can do as they please get a sharp blow when it does not work for them. Laws do not work like people think it does. People are too closed minded to accept change and that is their down fall. Educate yourself and protect yourself, its your own responsibility, no point saying you don't know or understand or to blame others. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.
@evelghostrider

@@samm4265 so you believe, but its sadly not correct my friend. You need to read and understand how the legal system changed to that of roman law in 1973 when Britain joined EU. Its all their in writing for people to read and learn. But most can't be bothered and just assume. In courts you must prove your innocent, break the system down and its easy for you to see. CPS say in court you did crime A. You then prove your innocent of that crime. Its not random made up stuff ive randomly seen on a KZbin video by some stranger. Its all laid out in black and white from the changes to the whole UK economy and legal system and legislation from 1973. Have you ever looked into it before making a claim im wrong, or do you just assume I am because its a belief you have simple held in your head as being correct my friend ??

After a tvl agent forged a "confession" form for me and took me to court (even after I provided proof it was a pack of lies), they basically said don't care pay or go to court. The day before my case the lawyer for capita called me and said oh I'm preparing for case tomorrow and just seen your evidence. I'm so sorry this should never have gone forward we are dropping it. I was just about to ask for that in writing when he said "so you don't have to turn up tomorrow" Given their behaviour so far alarm bells rang and I said fine... And turned up anyway, with a recording of that call along with all my other evidence. sure enough they forgot to drop the case.... Until I stood up to say yes the defence IS present, the lawyer shat himself and suddenly remembered to drop the case, I asked to go ahead anyway as I had recorded proof of serious crimes by capita/tvl to be told they dropped the case so sorry you have to bring your own case forward at huge costs.. Basically go forth and procreate.... They are criminal scum who rely on intimidation and threats and a toothless magistrates that's only there to rubber stamp paydays for them and they know even when they utterly screw up they still won't suffer any consequences.

I am amazed that the UK still has TV licenses. We had them here in Australia when TV was introduced in 1956 but licenses were finally abandoned in 1974 after a couple of years of mass refusal to pay. If an inspector came to the door, he (was always a male) was simply and politely told to "bugger off". The magistrates courts were swamped, internal administration costs spiraled and that was the end of it.

Surely they have to have real evidence of you actively watching TV without a license. The simple possession of a TV plugged into an aerial and even tuned in, unless you left it on a live channel is not sufficient. It would be like saying you have a motorbike capable of 150mph he's a speeding fine. The possession of a device capable of enabling you to commit an offence is not enough? I have a kitchen full of knives am I a murderer?. So is the only real evidence for a prosecution if the they turn the TV on and it is on a live broadcast channel?

There is 1 way I know of to get away with not paying your TV license. When I lived in the UK, I was still a resident of the Netherlands. Still it was hard to get it through the skull of the Bailiffs. A letter to county court with a copy of my passport, drivers license and a bank statement (so they can see that I do not reside in the UK) was enough to make it go away. Btw: My TV was located in the living room of my GF's house, who was a UK resident 😉

My only gripe is with paying the TV license is, it's an extra cost on top of the cable TV. I don't use an aerial so pretty much have to rely on the broadband/cable TV connection to essentially stream or view any of the freeview channels. The alternative to the TV license suggested was a 2 tier service with essential and premium viewing options from the BBC as a subscription.

The actual offence is. WATCHING an unlicenced TV....not having a set, not having it plugged in, not having an aerial in the back...WATCHING. so how on earth can you be prosecuted ? How can they catch you actually watching? This doesn't make sense. Surely they can't 'assume' or 'presume' you were watching??? So how are these cases proven in court? They can't be, and it's a dodgy magistrate who 'guesses' you must have been watching when it can't be proved. TV licencing keep it very quiet..it's the 'watching' that's illegal.

I once, and only once let a tv licence inspector in, as I don't even have a physical tv. He immediately claimed that as I had a PC, I needed a TV licence. But wasn't able to show legislation to prove that, but WAS very eager to get my signature on some form. Then he spotted my boxed Dr Who DVD collection (purchased from HMV, not downloaded), which I watch on the PC. Told me I need a licence to watch BBC DVD's too. Shoved the form in my face again. It was very difficult to get him to leave. I actually had to pull out my phone and call 999, "I would like to report a trespasser who is refusing to leave... Oh he just left." Also, he really didn't want me to read the form, just wanted me to sign it. I suspect it was some kind of falsified admission of guilt.

I have a related tale to tell. My partner had left her husband to move in with me. One day the door bell rang and I went to answer the door. There stood an official type asking if my partner lived there, I replied she did and invited him in. He said that he didn't think that he would be very welcome, I invited him in anyway. My partner was in the lounge watching the TV. The visitor said I see you have a TV and she hadn't renewed her licence... It was a very serious offence and would have to go to court. He then proceeded to fill a lengthy form and gave it to her. On his way out I said while he was here did he want to see the TV licence as it was in my name? I loved seeing the look on his face!😁

To prevent TV Licensing approaching your property, write to them, stating that you have withdrawn their implied right of access. There is no need to indicate whether you have a television, and you do not need to give your name. You can withdraw access in the name of "legal occupier". If they knock, have your camera ready to film them, tell them they are trespassing and re read the withdrawn access letter, have it by the door. No fine and no more visits

Hi. I m a genuine non tv watcher. I've not had a tv for more than a decade. I studied art for 8 years and I cant paint and look at a screen at the same time. I find it pretty boring tbh. So I do audible, and you tube, books and plays. When I first got rid of the tv years ago, they drove me nuts. They were forever bashing at my door, I had them forcing their way into my home...this was before digital recording devices. After 18 months of constant harassment, I gave up. I got a licence just to get rid of the bastards. But then I had enough. I wrote to them and said I didnt watch tv, never had, my aerial was cut to my house and do not think of harassing me cos I will go to the police. I have every right not to watch their boring programmes, and why should I pay to have their agenda forced down my throat? I was prepared to fight them. They said, ok. I now get a letter once a year, maybe every 2 years asking if I'm still not watching tv. It takes me a few minutes on line to say no and I even resent that. Best thing? Do it for real. Chuck out the damn goggle box...its like you have a mad aunt in your house, sitting in the corner mumbling to itself. Dump it. Get a lap top, subscribe to Netflix, chances are you have amazon prime, just watch what you want. Or, theres audible and you tube, and take up painting. 😉

But I was never bothered, the occasional film or show was interested in - it was cheaper for me to buy, and now I watch things online of course. Over the years Ive been broken into, assaulted and threatened. I guess we should just be thank full that there are more of us non watchers now and the harassment has dropped to a mild annoyance. It really irks me when I visit family and the TV is just there in the corner spurting loud garbage and select propaganda over every ones conversations. If you like your audio books - I'll recommend Fahrenheit 451, I think you will get a kick out of it!

When cable - as restricted as it was and still is - and satellite television were in their infancy, analogue television, cable networks and satellite television had their own sets of channels - some of the cable companies carried some programming from satellite television stations as well - most people wrongly assumed that, if they got Sky or whatever cable companies existed in their area - if any existed at all - then unplugged and took down the aerial from the roof, because they were no longer able to receive ordinary channels, they didn’t need a TV licence - or if they used the telly to play games on with a games console of some kind or watched videos on it, they thought they didn’t need a licence - although some people got their friends and family to record stuff on normal television - of course, eventually, BBC, ITV, 4 & 5 were eventually carried by satellite and cable companies, so that didn’t apply!

You need to warn folk that I had g4S pretend to be electricity meter readers! The tv licence people were in a G4S van and put a notice through my door that they’d visited(but they never rang the doorbell)…then the next day, another identical G4S vehicle pulled up and a middle aged woman knocked the door saying she wanted to read the meter and tried to just rudely step in through my doorway, but I didn’t budge. Then she blustered a bit and tried to use the meter reading machine to prove the house details but she didn’t realise she’d pulled up my neighbours details too, and actually thought I had two meters….SHE HADN’T BOTHERED TO LEARN HOW TO USE THE DEVICE, LOL! They were clearly trying to get inside and gather evidence! I’ve heard of other similar attempts too from other people. It’s a good job my meter wasn’t accessible and I wouldn’t have let her in anyway! Be really careful about any sort of called official….remember, no one has the right to enter your home without consent….and the only warrant that can do that is a genuine court one where you’ve been involved and noticed about it directly from the court (there’s a lot of phoney warrants). 🙂
