my mom was a teen in Brazil during the dictatorship. Gomes was already very popular for his plays and movies even before working on soaps. She told me she remembered everybody being hyped for roque santeiro’s debut, there were literal protests outside tv stations and government buildings when it was canceled. brazilians love their tv, people still talk about the show today and it formed the template of a lot of telenovelas since.

Just a bit of clarification on Chris Hardwick's All-Star Celebrity Bowling: I'm almost certain the KZbin series came *before* AMC picked it up as a series. If memory serves correctly, it was a part of the Nerdist channel's early lineup -- The channel came out of the KZbin Original Channel Initiative and started out more akin to G4 than New Rockstars. -- and I remember noticing they had stopped making/releasing episodes on the channel, getting excited about the AMC series after it was announced, and being disappointed when nothing came of it. (That said, it might also be possible the later episodes were filmed for the AMC series, since I do remember them having a slightly different look.)

The crazy thing I don't get about trying to remake The IT Crowd for an American audience is the shows already in english. Came across it one day while scrolling through netflix and instantly fell in love with it, easily one of my favorite shows to go back to now, I highly recommend to anyone to watch it. One show that got missed was Mission Control, a show set during the Space Race that would have starred Krysten Ritter. NBC picked up the pilot but canceled it after they wanted to essentially reshoot the entire pilot. Had this cancellation not happened, Jessica Jones and much of the Marvel Netflix universe would have looked completely different.
