Sometimes a TV show isn’t a hit in its time, but then people rediscover it years later and realize how wrong they were. However, the reverse has been known to happen as well, as some shows that were once must-see TV are just laughable and near-unwatchable when you go back and revisit them now. Some taught questionable lessons, while others may have appealed to kids of a certain era and no one else, but it’s best to remember your good memories of these shows instead of going back and watching them. Xena may not hold up in terms of special effects but it had a lot more meaning and heart than any other show I've ever seen since or before. It also struck emotion like nothing else. I think Looper and I remember 2 different shows. The lesbian controversy wasn't even close to a main topic. It was always about incredible story telling, love and doing what's best for the better good. Not to mention Xena is the most unique and strong female charter I've ever seen in my life! With an amazing story of being evil and turning good. I can go all day....I can still watch Xena and not get tired of it ! It keeps inspiring me to this day!

XENA GK I love Xena and Hercules. Two of my favorite series are much older- "Elizabeth R" and "The Cleopatras" (both on KZbin) and I went out of my way to find "I, Claudius" in a Goodwill across the country. I understand giggling at the collapsible, blow-up stone and the gritty visuals but the stories and acting will hold up through the ages.

I still love both Xena and Hercules, except towards the end when they started bringing christianity into it. Not that I have anything against christianity, but it just changed the whole feel of both shows about characters set during a period of time approximately 1500 years before christianity existed.

Srsly, Walker was a pile of shit. Unintentionally ludicrous and full of itself. Embarrassing and boring. Xena was absolutely ok, intentionnaly grotesque and ludicrous. It's called funny and entertaining

Xena came from an age of campy being a thing (see also: Buffy), so those weird shifts (there were only a couple musical episodes) were usually due to that. It was campy yet hardcore at the same time and it was one of the things that made Xena great. The only thing that "gets hard to watch with time" is the production value. You can see stunt doubles, acrobatic mats and wires, and bad CGI. But it's like saying you'll never play Ocarina of Time ever again because it's blocky.

Haha that's kind of funny because Buffy, Xena and Charmed are a in my top dozen favorite shows of all time. I was blown over with Xena because it not only showed strong female characters but also the blonde as the sub, and the brunette as the main. I think that you assume that they use the "female card" because most of the cast of Xena and Charmed is female and so a lot of the plot development and character progression is done from a female viewpoint. I have re-watched all 3 series' many times and only a few episodes of each come to mind that focus on very female things (like babies, periods, and being overtly emotional -crying-). Otherwise it could easily be men in the same position; physically fighting, taking emotional tolls, using their looks to their advantage, etc.

I want to see a show about warriors, witches or demonslayers, not fucking family dramas I can just as well catch on "as the world turns" Hell, at least MacGyver called it Quits when he found out he was a dad I think Charmed took the cake in the Desperate Housewives contest, where as the series progressed it was more about worrying about how to get the little one in time for preschool while being hunted by pure unadulterated evil than trying to stop said evil

I would have to disagree about Xena. Well okay, the first couple seasons did have some pretty outlandish episodes. But, as each season progressed, it just got better and better. Especially, the shows that concentrated more on Grabrielles & Xenas friendship, and there dedication to it. I just started wathing the reruns on tv again. It's still very watchable.

Renee P I actually watched it for the first time a few years back and i had the opposite reaction. I mean, i was around when it aired in television but i never got the chance to watch it until i was way older. anyway, i found the first few seasons to be excellent and felt that the show got more and more ridiculous as it went on. Watching the show became a chore after a while. i forced myself to finish it just because i hate to start something and leave it halfway through. The season with xena's daughter was the worst for me. The final episode was really good though. I have no idea what the controversy was about.

Highlander, for the most part, still rocks. Sword fighting in every episode (which GoT doesn't have) and they did more than 10 episodes a season. It's like saying that Wizard of Oz sucks because it's not Lord of the Rings. And I'd add Power Rangers, which is still on the air, somehow.

Xena was an *awesome* show. Sure, the special effects weren't always great -- it was the 90s, and the production had relatively limited resources -- but the things you cite as "awful" about it were, in fact, what made it so amazing: it reflected a wide range of genres and tones from slapstick to serious drama, action and adventure to interpersonal/romantic relationships. (And for those who ever played Dungeons & Dragons, it perfectly mirrored how the best of those RPG games went as it/they could be whatever the players/viewers made of it.) Sorry, Looper -- you are totally off-base with this one. I don't even need to watch the rest of the vid to know that I need to give this a thumbs down....

I agree with the tonal shifts which sometimes broke immersion and there were some writing misfires, but in all other respects I thought Xena's production was on par with Buffy's which I consider top notch. Many episodes of Xena are very re-watchable.

"Full House" was easily the worst family related sitcom of the 80's. Compared to "Family Ties", "The Cosby Show"," Roseanne", "Who's The Boss" & even "Growing Pains", "Full House" by comparison was lame humor with predictable (and unfunny) jokes and wore out punchlines. "Fuller House" proves that sometimes shows from the past need to stay there.

Sure it was cozy but painfully predictable. Most other family related sitcoms from this era don't seem as lame and predictable as Full House was despite their own flaws

Xena was good show. Lucy Lawless played a badass Xena. Xena is one of the greatest female characters on TV. Also Walker Texas Ranger was amazing. I still watch it.

As an older viewer, I can tell you that "Happy Days" belongs on the list. I haven't seen it in ages, but after season 2 or 3, it became bone-crushingly bad. Another show I loved which I can't stand now is MASH. It got so sanctimonious and preachy. Hawkeye virtually walked on water, and the first of his nemeses, Frank Burns, was just a cliched, cardboard, cutout McCarthyist.

I didn't say "The New Doctor Who" because, young people, being young, would think of only last year and not 2006 or whenever it started. Furthermore, the new Doctor Who series is some of the absolute worst, brainless, shittiest, garbage nonsense that has ever been put on screen. It gets so bad sometimes that it's offensive to anyone with a brain. This is a shame because there are good moments and good actors in it. It does a great job of creating Doctor Who-saves-the-day-like-a-superhero moments with some great 11th Doctor music. Unfortunately those moments are surrounded by a truly god-awful series where the owners, writers and directors clearly don't give a shit about science, common sense, plot, the world they're making, or the audience.

Face it, today's "destined to be an immortal classic" is tomorrow's cringey joke. Of course there are some exceptions and reverse examples; ahead-of-their-time films like "The Wizard of Oz" and "Citizen Kane" tanked at the box office only to become idolized decades later. How dare you, Xena was ahead of its time and had some brilliant directing. If you don't believe me, ask Quentin Tarantino. I have watched it so often I can pick a screen shot and tell you the episode. That said they had clip shows to save money, they had two musicals...and comedy episodes and drama episodes. Sure you had continuity errors, minimal CGI but this was before all that great magical stuff was taking over the film industry. Obviously you weren't a fan and have no clue about what was involved, what it gave to its audience and what the audience gave back. Renee and Lucy forever.

Kinda ridiculous to compare those tv shows from the 80's and 90's to modern shows. Not only is there a tremendous gap between budgets then and now, the audience is completely different now as well. Now, people watch shows so they can pick'em apart and criticise them. Back then, people watched them for fun. It didn't matter if a show was silly, it was actually part of the appeal. A form of escapism to forget your everyday problems for half an hour. Now, shows have to be as realistic as possible, or allude to some real-life event, and even then people aren't happy with the result, because complaining is cool these days. In my opinion, none of the shows mentioned in this list are 'unwatchable'. They are simply products of their time and, if viewed as such, they are still damn entertaining (except for Full House).

Telling Xena has become unwatchable with age makes your video unwatchable from the first day you put it on line. The effects and the sets got old, not the story. Some episodes aren't really good but it's not a question of age, they already weren't in the days. That said, the series as a whole remains moving, exciting and unique, and the two main actresses still burst the screen. Xena became iconic because a lot of people loved the show and found themselves in it, not vice versa.

Another problem with Full House is that it's about as realistic as Star Trek. That house the show depicted? In San Fran, home of super pricy real estate? $2 million+ easy. And on incomes from a local TV show and a chef? Yeah, making those kind of mortgage payments ain't happening, by the end of the first season they'd be in foreclosure. Most realistic in terms of income and lifestyle? Ironically, The Simpsons.

Walker? Chuck was a parody of himself even before the show ended. There is one thing he can't do, and that's act. In all those movies and the first few seasons of the show, that wasn't a problem. Good Kung Fu skills can disguise a lot of wooden acting. But as Jackie Chan will be the first to tell you, many years of abusing your body for the camera will take it's toll. Limited ability to move only heightens the lack of acting ability.

I used to watch Baywatch in its first seasons, and I always thought it was ridiculous that literally every second episode was about some criminals on the beach. Yes, literally every second episode. It was a crime infested beach and out of the entire staff there was ONE cop who hated sand. No other show has presented such a lack of ability to fight crime until we got the CTU with its horrendous hiring record of spies and traitors.
