Hi Nick, as always a great review. I see that the remote has some basic TV control buttons. Does the box automatically configure these buttons, like a Fire Stick does I believe via HDMI CEC, or does the user have to manually configure these?

Those buttons can only be programmed using IR learning with your TV. You cannot program them from within the box's menu. There is no feature for that. Also I am unsure if they actually work. I usually just plug in and air-mouse and forget the IR remote.

Goodnight ! I have a receiver and I would like to transfer the TOX 3 audio codec to it (DTS and TRUE HD), but these films are very heavy and are in external HD. Is it possible to plug the external HD into the TOX 3 and still recognize the audio codecs and see everything in 4K? The files are around 60 to 80GB. Grateful.

Sure a 1TB or even a 4 TB hard drive is no problem for the TOX3 to recognize. Once the files are in MPEG-4, MKV, TS, M2TS formats the box will be able to play them and deliver surround sound audio to your receiver.

Nick, good afternoon, how did you configure to be able to play dolby trueHD Atmos audio, because I configured the TOX3 TV box to audio the passthrough of all the codecs and in the kody player I also programmed the passthrough of all the audio codecs, including obviously the dolby trueHD. All settings in Kodi seems okay, what I would recommend is that under audio settings enable all formats manually. If there is an audio passthrough option in the box's settings area try disabling it so that the audio gets processed through the box is decoders. I will look for that box later to see what else I can remember.

Sometimes it depends on the media player you are using or the audio format it is in. For example, if it's a Dolby Vision video it may not play because the box does not have Dolby Vision decoders. To be on the safe side use the MX player.

Yes it can do that, but sometimes it depends on the media player you choose. Sometimes the VLC works better, sometimes it's built-in media player, and other times the MX player or Kodi does the trick. But as pertaining to reading large external drives is not an issue.

Andrei con il TOX3, poiché l'A95X F4 che gira sullo stesso Amlogic S905X4 non è ottimizzato come il TOX3. E l'A95X F3 funziona su quel vecchio hardware Amlogic S905X3 che non può produrre formati come Dolby TrueHD. 5.1 e 7.1 non sono un problema, il tuo ricevitore riceverà lo stesso segnale dalla scatola e lo elaborerà di conseguenza. I have the Tox3 4gb 32gb which is a great box. The Tox3 Lite being 2gb 16gb, if just going to be streaming movies, live tv etc with a few other apps downloaded, which we watch now and again, would the Lite version work OK or struggle with 1080p or 4k, before I buy one! So you're telling me this is a TV box with modern CPU and Android 11, but it is not a hybrid Android system and I can fully use it with my gyroscopic air mouse remote? This seems really good and I can even order it from AliExpress to my country for around 60 euros. This seems so good. So, this fully acts like a normal tablet-like Android system? Does it run all apps from Play Store without some silly limitations that say you can't install some apps because they are incompatible with your device because it runs hybrid AndroidTV-like system? Can you also pull down and view your notifications and click on it and enter the app or just swipe and remove it? I wasn't able to do it on my A95X F3 even though it acted like normal tablet-like Android. Notifications and control center were like frozen on that device.

Yes it works with your gyroscope a most remote. It's not the hybrid firmware but the regular mobile version Android 11. The play store is not restricted with Celie limitations. It has a full notifications bar with system controls. And it has a navigation bar. All this for under $60 is a bargain.

When I turned the device on for the first time I entered Google Chrome and I was amazed that I can finally use the Chrome with function to scroll the content using my gyroscopic air mouse function. After I updated the Chrome now I only can scroll slowly using the direction buttons up and down on my remote. I had this problem on all my previous boxes. I tried other browsers on this device and only Firefox lets me scroll comfortably with air mouse, but I really prefer Chrome more than Firefox. Do you have any idea how I could uninstall the updates I did or do anything else to have again that first version of Chrome I had on this device?

Not really. When the time comes there is going to be a transition based on a particular version of Android going forward, and this will not render previous devices inoperable as the OS and apps compatibility will still be available for some time. The way the manufacturer Android boxes is that the SOC hardware is locked into a particular version of Android.

At least two of the videos in the surround sound demonstration and Dolby vision videos. However they don't trigger the feature on your TV like Netflix does. The box must have a special license from Dolby under your Google certification for that feature to work. That's why you only see it happening with Netflix. So even though the video is encoded with Dolby vision it will not trigger the feature on your TV. I will have to test this on a certified version like the Nvidia shield all the Amazon fire TV cube.

You see the same way the HDR icon pops up in the top right corner of the screen? There is a Dolby vision icon pops up when playing Netflix videos on a certified box. That does not happen when you're playing Dolby vision self hosted videos.

Magisk on Android boxes is mainly for applications such as gamepad keymapping apps that maps gamepad and keyboard controls the touchscreen functions while gaming. These apps do not work if the box is not rooted. At the same time root access is not needed for streaming movies and TV shows so you can leave it disabled if you want. Another feature that no longer required because Ugoos has implemented it into the firmware, is an app called Kernel auditor that used to Max all the CPU clock speed for optimal performance. The app to required root access, but like I said is no longer required as the feature is no built-in. So the Magisk application to put in simple terms is a for apps that need root access to work.

Yes that's the activity indicator same as in your desktop PC you can change the behavior of that the settings area. You can turn it off, you can set it to always on, or to respond to the CPU's activity. I like it because it tells me something is happening on the box

I like this box, but i am having a very hard time with the 5GHZ wifi. It is constantly disconnecting or malfunctioning. My router is in the same room on the opposite side, its not a signal issue but there is something acting up and it is basically dropping from the network. 2.4ghz on this box is fine no issues. I messed with just about every 5ghz setting on my router, and nothing works. This isn't the 1st android box that didn't play well with my 5ghz band. The Tanix X4 has no issues on 5ghz.

Then the only explanation is that there is a hardware malfunction. Try connecting to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only and see what happens. How long have you had that you had that router. Put your mobile phone to hotspot, connect the box to your mobile phone and see if the connection drops. If it does then is a box malfunction.

To troubleshoot this issue you need to start with the basics. 1. when you connect the box directly to your TV does it work. 2. What is the display resolution on the box when it is connected to your TV 3. I researched a sound bar and it has a maximum passthrough of 4K 60 Hz 4. Check the box display settings and set it to adaptive HDR as well as Under color space set it to 8bit YCbCr 5. Use 8K rated HDMI cables. Set the speaker configuration to multichannel. 6. In the Android box's menu, Under the sound setting turn on surround sound audio. 7. Are there any lights on the LED display for power? If yes use the following steps. So below the box has a reset pinhole button. Take a toothpick or a paperclip and press and hold it. Then while holding plug in the power adapter. Continue holding the reset button until you get the recovery screen. The recovery screen can be only navigated with the direction pad on the stock remote via infrared. Navigate to the option that says restore to factory default settings and there you can reset the entire firmware.

The only other alternative is flashing the firmware via USB on your PC. Whether I don't have the firmware for this box. I want to believe that there is something more happening with this box. I believe is broken, because if you cannot in the recovery mode then that's a big red flag.

I assume you are familiar with the cable configuration? TOX3 to media box or similar HDMI input behind AVR. TV connected to HDMI output behind AVR. Set the mode selector to the input you used eg. Mediabox/TV/DVD/Game/ Set TV to HDMI you used HDMI/1/2/3. Ensure HDR settings on the box is set to adaptive HDR in the event TV is not HDR, or AVR is not HDR compatible. Use short HDMI cable as very long HDMI cable loose signal with HDR display. Use good quality HDMI cables also. For long distances, over 15ft use optical fiber HDMI cables.

If you try to play a Dolby Vision video the video itself will play but the Dolby Vision feature will not be activated on your TV as Android media players do not have the license to access or produce the Dolby Vision decoder. You can only get Dolby Vision from services such as Netflix and others that are authorized by Dolby. However, when played true your receiver Dolby Vision audio is detected as Dolby Surround as the AVR has the license to produce it.

Oh dear. Rafal you are no doubt apparently a bit in new to Android boxes. Because you would know that this box is not Google certified with the digital rights to play Netflix and Disney+ officially in HD and 4K. You can sideload them, meaning install them outside of the play store using an installation file. However, they will only be limited to 480p resolution. There is a difference between a noncertified Android TV box running on the mobile version of Android, and a certified Android TV box running on the Android TV OS operating system which is quite different from the operating system you are using on the TOX3. So I totally understand your confusion but not all TV boxes at the same. More so when a box is not fully Google certified you will not find apps such as Netflix Disney+ on the play store, because the play store will detect its none certification. Sometimes in my videos I go really fast taking for granted that everyone would understand what's happening when I say things like not fully Google certified, but I will have to try to remember that there are always going to be newbies to Android boxes. A perfect example of a certified Android TV Box is my recent Homatics Box R 4K model. Other examples are like the Amazon Fire TV stick, Fire TV cube, Nvidia shield, Xiaomi mi box 4K, some of the Mecool models, etc.

Saying yes would be answering without actually testing it. I don't have a NAS server and I can only say yes in theory. It has client server and Samba server settings which are the utilities for it to act as a server itself, or to login to another server. I have never tested it because I don't have a NAS server.

@@PedroKV From what I can see, it looks as if the firmware in this box is produced by the same developers as that for the TOX1 and Ugoos AM6B-Plus. I have both of those boxes and regularly stream from 2 NAS boxes via their SMB protocols. therefore, I would be very surprised if the new TOX3 didn't do likewise. Hope this helps.

Some Android boxes start overheating from day one. With any Android box you have to pay attention where you place it. For example don't place it on top another device that generates heat. Always place it where it's well ventilated. Depending on the model you have and hold many ventilation holes were provided it affects the boxes ability to breathe. If you are a user that likes to play Android games that activity generates double the heat is done regular streaming of movies and TV shows. TV boxes on board built-in CPUs behaves the same as regular PC CPUs. The differences PC CPUs of cooling fans to keep them cool and TV Box CPUs have a heatsink which is not as effective. So the housing of the box needs to have additional hose so that the heat can ask keep or else it's like a pressure cooker in there. Some tech savvy users have learned to open the bottom panel of the boxes and just leave it open for maximum cooling, and others like myself like to apply a cooling fan below it which is very effective. In the last quarter of 2022 they have started remodeling TV Box housing to now include heatsinks that are partially exposed as part of the body of the box itself using aluminum.

Yes that's because it does not have the required digital rights protection level to run Netflix in HD and 4K. You will have to run Netflix by installing it from an app store such as Aptoide or APKpure. You can also download it on a pen drive and install it via USB using its file browser. You can install the APK app stores by searching for them on the Chrome browser on the box.

That is one of my biggest beefs with apps the same as you. There many apps I scroll through the app description and there is no way to determine if the app is 32bit or 64bit. Some of the apps that a 64bit would not even show up on the play store if your box is 32bit. If you try to install them from APK App Stores the installation process says "this app is not compatible". There is really no way of telling I wish Android would change that.
