The event had not started before the stampede, from the story, this happened between 5am to 6am. The event is probably going to start at 10am, even if the health department was invited, they will probably get there about 8am. The government has made many home so poor, that’s why people will go out with their families in search of a daily meal, most likely. Our leaders should stop looting, and consider welfare package for the poor, establish food banks, this is really sad. We have never had it this bad in Nigeria.

TVC never dissappoint with their unprofessionalism. Do your findings before reporting to people, especially this one in a masquerade clothing and make-up. Firstly, she did not promise N5000, she said 5000 people. So, she should've incur more charges hiring security to tell people how to behave 24 hrs before the program starts. The program was meant to start at 10:00 a.m. but the stampede happened between 7:00 & 8:00 a.m. Even abroad, anything that happens before and outside the venue is not the organiser's responsibility. In fact, those involved in breaking the gates, throwing their kids over the fence, neglecting their children and pushing were meant to be arrested, and not Naomi. Calling someone for questioning is different from arrest. You would have been questioned before arrest. If the parents who threw their kids over the fence, push through the gate or intentionally put their kids in danger do not face the consequence, this will happen again. Anti social behaviour comes with a consequence abroad, but in Naija. Everyone should be expected to behave appropriately.

It's so insensitive the way Mrs Nyma is asking what are those people fighting for. There's so much hunger in the land, it's not greed but difficulty in these economic crises we find ourselves. That 5k that was shared wouldn't even feed those families properly for one day. If our vulnerable ones aren't protected, then we're in a dangerous situation and it's hard to see how we're getting out of this mess in this country.

I am not Nigerian, but I have lived with them to know their mentality. When something is free, they forget themselves, even if they have, they will rush without thinking. 2nd, giving 5k to a family, is almost nothing. Why can’t take that money and repair that school?? That will do something significant, than giving 5k to a family. I don’t why Nigerian like giving money this way, is it to be celebrated??? How do you call 5000 people?? When do you expect in that desperate society?? People should focus on something significant that will help in the long run, instead something that they will finish in few hours.
@sadeakin9367Күн бұрын
You miss the point. Do you think giving the money to the school for repairs will be utilized as it should? Nay!! The people at the top will steal it! This is the time of giving, and appropriate to give to the vulnerable (children) As you rightly say the mentality of free stuff and I must get it by all means has destroyed Nigerians. My heart goes out to the victims. May their soul rest peacefully. I think parents should be held accountable. Arresting the organizers and detaining them will not bring back the dead.

If the venue was not open, and the organizers were not yet at the venue to start the event, why were the masses trying to get in the venue before the time? Let's be very OBJECTIVE what has the organizers got to do with the people stampeding.. was it the children that stampeded each other? Or was it adults that did the stampeding? Who came to the venue at 5am? Adults or the children? People should be held accountable for their own actions. How does a responsible parent see a massive overwhelming crowd and allow their kids to be in there struggling, for what? It's abject parental negligence and senselessness. Life is more important than material things. Everyone wants to point fingers but not be personally held accountable for their own senseless decision and actions. Why kill yourselves over an event that the venue is not even open yet? It's a sad loss and the parents should FIRST be held accountable. This is not hunger or poverty IT'S BEING IRRESPONSIBLE

Stampede has happened before in similar circumstances, and you know that sharing money in public will attract a lot of poor people. The organizers did a lot to advertise the event. Part of planning is estimating the magnitude of people that will show up for such an event and dotting your iees and tees on what could possibly go wrong by employing the services of event planners who know their onions. It is sad what happened because the organizers had good intentions, but you need to be careful about unintended consequences.
