Yeah… I think she was torn between them during season 3 as she was starting to have feelings for Damon but had some unfinished business with Stefan as their relationship didn’t get the closure it needed until season 4. I shipped stelena in the beginning of the show but near the end of season one-season two time I was slowly but surely starting to prefer delena more. They had a better buildup and it was good development that in the beginning he pretended he didn’t care what she was doing or if she could get hurt but more and more he was starting to care if she was somewhere she wasn’t supposed to be because he was concerned about her getting hurt and actually showed it.

I think y’all are missing the point. Damon wasn’t expecting Elena to be there. He thought she would listen to him. But when Damon sees her he forgets everything, almost like he’s secretly glad she didn’t listen to him (because she really is independent and smart). And the Elena looks really stunning lol.
