Best tutorial on this topic I've seen - most don't address the variable speed option which is what I really wanted. The method seems a bit more staightforward than others I've seen, too. This will be the way I approach all path animations from now on.

I appreciate the kind remarks! I was surprised when I couldn't find anything on the topic so I tried to be as thorough as possible.

Oh my GOSH I have been trying to find a way to get proper keyframes on a Follow Path to make a VRChat rollercoaster for a little while and your method with keyframing the offset value actually worked! No idea how but Unity interprets the offset keyframes as proper location/rotation keyframes (a whole lot of them but it works) which is exactly what I was after! Massive thanks to you and your fantastic voice!

Excellent tutorial on this topic. Much more in depth than most and I finally got some control over an object following a path. And you have a very nice voice for this stuff. Congratulations!

@@HelloHiHola just a quick question, what if i want that it stops at a certain point? i tried duplicating the frame and move it along the line and is not stopping the movement. Also what if its a line not a closed path. Mine shows the animation even though i never click animate path. version 2.9

@@alinerdelav I believe a horizontal line will do you good. Any incline is movement.

Hugely helpful. I have seen the graph editor a time or two and was totally confused by what I was looking at. Now I have a much better understanding of how to control animations and their speed on paths.

Hi, i have some problems to follow You. When i try to change the key frames points in the graph editor by pressing "i" the speed is always the same. I have used a camera and the path has a beginin and an end.

Javier Have you moved the keys along the X axis, time, at all?

I've tried to apply this technique to the camera following a bezier circle path - very similar to your example. One problem I have is that when I put the 'follow Path' constraint on the camera, it jumps way, off off and orients itself in a crazy way that's hard to re-orient. Can you explain why that is and a workflow that will prevent it?
@HelloHiHola5 жыл бұрын
Those origins have to line up or they compound the difference between them. Build everything at 000 then move it all together.
@petebrown79955 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Setting the camera and bezier circle to location 0,0,0 and then setting the camera's 'follow' constraint worked a lot better. I could then just move the circle to where I needed it to be and the camera tagged along for the ride.

can I set up a constant velocity in my followpath? I mean my path has 35 meters from a Point A wichi is the origin of the path and the starting point of my animation, and the point B is teh final point of my animation and the same time the end of the path... however I set my animation to 196 frames by 24 fps... so near 7 to 8 second...but my object goes to fast during the path...I need a constant velocity so that way the objects across the path from pont A to B .thx
@HelloHiHola5 жыл бұрын
A constant velocity would be directed in F6 Graph Editor with shortcut [T] and Linear. Your 196 frames might get confusing with a 100 frame evaluation time found in the Curve data tab; you can change it to 196 just for keeping things evenly numbered. I have to admit that some of your question has me confused - keep in touch!
@leatherandpoemscharmyman57745 жыл бұрын
@@HelloHiHola Yeah I change the evaluation time as the same as the end fo the frame and works....however , how can I rotate the camara in a path constraint? if y move or rotate the path curve the position and rotation of my camare move...that was fun! but I need in some ocation rotate the camara a little while keeping the contraint... twiking the influence of the curve for the camera could be an option? or just insert manual keyframing in camera without touching the curvepath? your tutorial about this think followpath is very interesting, I think professional or advance user must know how to use path or curves and not spend hours in manual keyframin in 3D space, it is a cheap way...but I would like to be organize and advanced method, thx.

@@leatherandpoemscharmyman5774 BIG questions! Don't worry about the professionals! ;) Your question puts us to a different effect like a camera on the front of a train - it follows the track, but not always the turns so it can look left and right sometimes. I've done this but it's a different approach. Have an Empty for the Camera to "Track To" and key frame the empty while the Camera goes for a ride. Since you mention it (and subscribed - thanks!) I'll try to fish up the old animation and make a short, smart video about it soon! I appreciate your efforts to stay organized! You'll go far. EDIT ps 20b Path Follow for Cameras, coming tomorrow.
@leatherandpoemscharmyman57745 жыл бұрын
@@HelloHiHola I created a empty...so the camera track to it...but I realised also the empty must follow the path? because the camera is following the path , and the empty controls the rotation for camera ...but the empty keep in the positon... should I also change axes for trackign? and influences in local space?
@HelloHiHola5 жыл бұрын
@@leatherandpoemscharmyman5774 Sorry to say the axis for Track To is always a mystery to me! I found luck but it's this Empty I thought you might like to key frame instead of it following the path. A million choices for animating Influence, the Empty, the Camera, the speed and keyframes of those elements! I would have to see your scene to offer more specifics.

I'd suggest cutting that into a couple shots or files instead of one, minutes-long scene. Then edit them together to create whatever continuity you're after.

@HelloHiHola4 жыл бұрын
I just reviewed the entire 3 1/2 hour film and have to observe the only keystroke change to 2.8 is that playing the animation is now with the spacebar. Are you having another difficulty? I'd love an excuse to make a shorter version of this!
