Most non-Muslims are completely bamboozled by this. Especially Christians. Little old Christian ladies would chide other Christians for lying about Christianity even if it was done to "protect" or "spread" the religion. Most non-Muslims just cannot compute that a religion can allow and even oblige its followers to lie to defend and spread the religion. Guess what? Israel has religious freedom and plurality. 20% of its population are Arab Muslims with equal rights. They have schools that teach in their language, they have mosques everywhere, they have traditional courts. You know where you won't find religious freedom and plurality? Palestine, where the law states that selling land to a Jew is punishable by death. Palestine, where the leaders have stated, if they are moderate (because the extremists just say they'll kill all the Jews), that the state they will establish will be "Jew free". In general, the whole Arab world, where from a population of a million Jews 80 years ago almost nothing has been left due to prosecution.
