I love Shirley Jones, and I've met her three times in my life in different decades, but the character she played was not the first working mother on television. It was at least as early as 1968 was Diahann Carroll playing Julia, a widowed nurse with a young son. It was a great show... Btw, Happy Days started January 1974, just two months before Partridge Family ended.

I couldn't have said it better. I think that's why I grieve so. I feel we had a part in it as we elevated him to such a beloved level that for years he COULDN'T have a life. His dad (an alcoholic) also created deep seated issues for him which David never reconciled because of his father's tragic death while David was in his 20's. And then there's the alcohol... But even that wasn't understood in terms of addiction and genetics until the last 20 years or so. He never got to enjoy David Cassidy the way we did.

The Partridge family was based on the band the Cowsills. Originally the network, ABC wanted the Cowsills to play on the show. Only didn’t want their mother. They wanted Shirley Jones to play the mother. The band said no way mom is part of the band. You either take all of us on none of us. ABC told them to take a walk. Could you imagine if history played out differently? David Cassidy would never have had that big break singing playing music. He may or may not have made it as the actor.

Doing the math... David Cassidy was contracted at $600 a week, about $31,000 a year. If you put that in regular working format, 40 hours a week for a full-time job say, he'd be making $15 an hour. Give or take a few dollars, DC was making as much as my father was at the time. My dad had a wife, three teenagers, and a house. Translate that to now, that 31,000 is about a quarter of a million dollars in 2024. Television stars in say, The Big Bang Theory, made millions per episode, just salary alone considered. The Partridge Family was $120,000 per episode to make. Other than Shirley Jones, everyone else was a nobody. I can't imagine how much that show made in advertising every week and on the merchandising. Those Partridge kids got shortchanged financially compared to the producers and the studio. Its the learning about old practices where new stars can negotiate better deals if the show is a hit...

I really wish we had shows like this on today family oriented instead of all this reality stuff and crime shows. Today's society needs shows like this. It's a shame his childhood was so sad to bad his father was so jealous. David said in a interview all he wanted was praise from his dad and he didn't get it. David lived a lifestyle like his dad in some way but you know his dad was the only example he could go by. David had to live with the fact the fan was so distraught during one of his shows she passed away. What an awful memory he had to live with. One thing I always wondered was what kind of relationship did Shaun, Patrick and Ryan have with Jack I never found anything to let me know.Does anyone know? So anyway if David had a different childhood I believe he would have been with us longer. I think Shirley was the only adult image he had to look up to. You know, and I think that everyone would agree, The Partridge Family was one of the Greatest Rock Bands of the 1970's. With Keith's mesmerizing Vocals and Danny's foundational Bass Tracks the Hits were plentiful. They could hold their own with the likes of The Archie's, The Mosques, The Monkey's, and The Spanker's. Their hits "Come On Get Happy," "I Woke Up In Love This Morning," "I Think I Love You," "That's Not a Flashlight in my Pocket," "Trust Me (I Won't Come In Your Mouth)," "One Eyed Worm," "Polish My Rocket," "Let's Do It Again," "Let Me Butter Your Muffin," "Eat Me Gently," and "Squeeze Another Load," were wonderful. They really were great.
