Same here. I have autism as well, and it makes me feel bad whenever someone says that if one autistic does something bad, then all the rest will do it too. Luckily, my parents reassured me that just because someone does something bad does not mean I’ll do it too. For me, when I found out I had autism (parents told me in 3rd grade), I thought it was a curse. Like, that’s why I acted so different and never talked. Now, I just see it as a gift, since it actually helped me be smart at math somehow. Also helped me be more creative with art and stuff.

I’ve been diagnosed with Autism when I was born, and clearly, I’ve been learning many things from the internet, and gained enough awareness to know of how I should be careful with my own actions, because I know for a fact that I’ve been frequently seeing people using their disabilities to excuse their freaking actions, and I find it absolutely immoral in many ways unimaginable, so remember… “Don’t blame your disabilities, blame yourself for your actions, it’s your responsibility”, and boy, people just continue to stoop very low, much deeper into the abyss of no return to the moral light, and yet, they continue descending so far, where they can never return and ascend into the light again…

As a autistic person, I have learned the lesson. It is better to do better things to fix mistakes and not blame it on mental disorders. And at the timestamp 1:00 it happened to me as well when I had a Friend and things ended up bad. Now that I learnt the lesson of life, I realised that bad things can sometimes be fixed, not blamed on mental disorders. Thanks for teaching me that. You really are a good one.

As someone with ASD,I agree with u/ En tant que personne atteinte de TSA,je suis d’accord avec toi. Reminder: Don’t blame your mental illness or your disability however if it’s mental or physical…or even both. Be proud to live with it! Be confident of yourself despite your defaults! LIKE ME! I’m proud to live with my Autism and my AD (Attention disorder) Another reminder: You are all beautiful and strong however you are! But do not use it for an apology for a serious mistake. Everyone makes massive and unforgivable mistakes however the appearance, and however if they have mental/physical problems. But do not expose your mental/physical issues for a serious moment for an excuse.

As a person with autism, cmon. I never use my disability as an excuse. It’s basic common sense to actually take accountability and not do it again. And these people use said disability as an excuse? This can make actual people who have the disability in question (ASD, ADHD, etc) less believed. It’s disgusting how low we’ve gotten. Remember: your actions, your responsibility. (I accidentally left that out, but I felt like it needed to be said)

As a victim of these type of situations, unfortunetly a person who harmed me has actually gotten a less of a legal sentence then they would if they were neurodivergent for what they did, and unfortunetly they are currently back to roaming the streets. It's thanks to situations like these that people use autism as an excuse because it does unforfortunetly work out for people, even if they've done unspeakble crimes worse than murder. Now with that being said I do think my autism did in fact make things harder for me to confess about the situation and cause me to supress the whole situation for years, so there are times when autism can be used an excuse but definetly not when it comes to commiting a crime or hurting someone. Either take accountability for your actions or my favourite: don't do something that you know can scar people for life! I'll never get who approved of this excuse and who thought it was a good idea to make these a way to get less jail time. Now I need y'all to understand that this did impact my opinion on autistic people in general and caused me to treat autistic people worse and less human than regular people despite being autistic, however I have since matured up, apoligised to those who I was rude to for simply being autistic and have since met some of my closest friends whom are also autistic. PS: For anyone asking I'm okay now, I live back in my home country far away from that creep. I'm sorry for anyone who's going through the same or similar experiences and I promise not all autistic people are like this. Stay safe out there guys

They literally used autism as a shield to just try to run away from the problem quicker which imo is pretty immature. Their actions were choices that they made- they just should of took accountability better and overall just leave KZbin entirely. Another thing imo is that it kinda seems like when ppl called them out in their comments or told them the truth, they basically threw a tantrum 💀💀 this entire situation was just plain out dumb and immature in the first place. He said “look I know most of you guys are different from other students and that’s okay but can’t use it as an advantage to get out of trouble. You can control your disability I have Autism I can control is sometimes I slip up and be very rude but I don’t say my autism did that not me I apologise.” It really did put things into a different perspective for my class. This guy we’ll call A said I can’t help it and we all looked at him (adhd and dyslexic). No, I won't groom someone because of my autism. No, I won't be racist to someone because of my autism. No, I won't kill someone because of my autism. Yes, I'll own up to my actions. I know autism is different for everyone, but I won't do bad things because of it. These people are just making life harder for other autistic individuals because they are creating negative stereotypes. People gotta learn that autism is a "difficulty factor" in someone's life, not a force that forces the person to go do bad things.

I try to not let them seep out but with my ADHD I can get very impulsive which often leads to me saying or doing bad things that I regret. When that happens I apologize for acting irrationally, move on and try to do better and be more aware of when I’m being impulsive.

Diagnosis and disorders is no excuse for your actions, OFCOURSE you can explain that these disorders make you act in some way, you can explain that you reacted this way because of a specific illness or disorder you have, but you still need to take accountability for your actions and know that no matter the reason it's still wrong Can we please normalize taking responsibility?💀

That happened to me recently by a 16 y/o, and it didn't end well as I went nuclear on a rant in a server in which it completely drove him out and rightfully so

As someone who is autistic myself, I know that using a mental illness as an excuse to make you look innocent is really stupid. Trust me, it's better to just deal with the consequences.

I have a very close friend whos autisic. we both go to advanced classes together and he does great! never once have I seen him use that as an excuse for his actions, however. i had this one friend who claimed to have all of these mental disorders (around 7 i think) and two of them was ADHD and autism, and whenever she did something "bad" she would be like "well, its because im autistic" or "its because i have adhd" like NO GIRL!

a classmate in my school keeps using autism as an excuse for some stuff... except everyone in my school including me IS autistic (i go to an autism special school) so their excuse was just nonexistant. speaking of which, autism and any kind of mental illness in general, should NEVER be the key 'defence' for being a degenerate. i used to use the AuDHD card sometimes back then, it never worked. :/

As someone who has been diagnosed by a professional with ADHD and Autism at a very early age, I find this very, very childish to blame your mental illness for something you had control over. Autism isn’t a parasite that makes you a child diddler 😭

Yes but at the same time, if that person has been made aware of their problems, they should be able to get help. Not continue indulging in vile behavior. And even if they’re unable to stop themselves and end up doing it anyways, they IMMEDIATELY apologize and get help, not go online and make excuses

Because of these people using neurodivergence as an excuse, I’m scared to tell people that some of my behavior is because of my ADHD because I don’t want to stoop to the level of the people you mentioned.

:( Im sorry, these people who give neurodivergence a bad light are disgusting. If you're going to explain your behavior in light of your ADHD diagnosis, i highly recommend educating others on what having ADHD actually means, so that theres no misunderstanding and there's context before you go off and start to explain your behavior. Also, explain how you genuinely try to overcome the struggles, but that its harder for you because of the condition. That way, you show that you recognize that some actions may not be healthy and that youre not just lazing around and letting it happen, that youre actually trying to not them rule you and so it doesnt come off as an excuse. If theyre real people who care for you, im sure theyd understand and sympathize :) im not ADHD/Autistic myself (not officially diagnosed though- maybe? not sure), but i did do quite a bit of research into it Sorry if i cam off as insensitive- im really js trying to help, i hope people will understand you
