The fact that they ended up just putting her in another f**king marriage seals it. If any of the New Who companions ended up single, I'd love it to have been the woman whose introductory episode was themed around her marriage. But no, she gets no development whatsoever because we need the Doctor and Wilfred to be sad. Also, what is it with New Who and giving companions romantic relationships. Do the showrunners not realize that some people just don't desire romance? Or monogamy? At least Captain Jack didn't get monogamously married to Rose's mom. Though I would prefer that pairing to Martha and Mickey, like what the fuck. But, was Jamie married at the end of The War Games? Did Ace go out with that cat lady? Ok I would've liked that last one but still.

Xanxia The author of the novelization of Fury From the Deep did have Jamie telling Victoria his feelings for her in an effort to get her to stay but she left anyway. Hell, even old fans like me couldn't give the furriest crack of a rats ass about companion romance, With Jo Grant I was cool with hers because it was her last story.

Oh I've been waiting for this for a long time! One of the things I used to use to defend the "I never would" part was the effects of The Time War and him blowing up his home planet...however...I still say Tennant killed in his era. My favourite story of his - The Family Of Blood two parter, ends with him drowning someone in "unbreakable chains", throwing someone into an exploding star, forcing someone into a suspended state and making them a scarecrow (and...no one would happen to come across that? That would actually make a funny followup to that story) and putting someone in every mirror everywhere. I know the ending narration makes it sound like they all lived forever but...they were aliens inside the bodies of normal human beings. "Weak aliens" as described in the episode. HE. KILLED. THEM. AND. THE. HUMANS. THEY. POSSESSED! Then I find out the whole story is a Sylvester McCoy novel (which, characterization wise, makes so much sense considering this paragraph. Also, he euthanized a Cyberman in The Age Of Steel. Its not "the best thing he could've done" because literally a few minutes later he makes the human minds inside all the Cybermen aware of themselves. And there's that whole thing in the "Aliens Of London" two parter with Christopher Eccleston where he tried to kill an alien by electrifying it. I pin the excuse now for making that speech on "how he never would" as being..."10 is a fucking hypocrite". Also, him hating the military?...So I guess he completely forgot about his second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh incarnation there. The only other excuse is that because, by this point, 10 is 1800 years old in total (I calculated as best I could!!), he's gone senile and/or suffers from dementia.
@billjacobs5218 жыл бұрын
There's a difference between "never kills" and "never kills except to save lives". He only killed, directly or indirectly, when it was the only way to prevent the deaths of innocents. He's not a pacificist. Killing a man already dog-piled to the ground and clearly now hated by everyone around him isn't defending anyone, it's a cold-blooded execution. Did he deserve execution? Possibly. But Tennant is showing the emotional struggle it comes with, and tries to teach these soldiers that killing is not the only solution.

So basically this was a sci fi metaphor for the book of genesis? It might explain why they had that dialogue about the female source as well as making the stupid war only seven days. It might explain the resurrection of the doctor's daughter as well but it just seems like a really lazy metaphor. RTD really liked making the tenth doctor space Jesus.

I love how Hagan conveniently forgets about The Doctor's granddaughter. Like, we're talking about a character who was literally in the first episode of Dr Who, and the existence of a granddaughter implies the existence of a previous daughter too. Even if we're counting "looms" as canon (which they're not), the very genesis of the show disagreed with Hagan on the Doctor's family.

The bit with Doctor hating guns, well, he may have started hating them after Time War, it’s not that unlikely. So 6th Doctor shooting Cybermen doesn’t negate that later Doctor, after what was a traumatic event, would completely hate guns. That, and the fact that each incarnation just likes and dislikes different things.
@ZannyAisling8 жыл бұрын
Honestly, Donna was probably one of my favorite companions in all of doctor who. She wasn't given terribly good material, but it was refreshing to have a companion that challenged the dynamic of "attractive young assistant who's terribly ignorant yet can do no wrong in the eyes of the narrative" even slightly. I kinda hate how she practically got fridged, and the fact that she kept getting married only makes it worse. She should've ended up staying single, just because I'd rather her not be constantly in reference to men.

The funny thing is that the cloning machine is not unlike the Looms. Taking DNA from someone and reconstituting it into a new being. Not as elegant, but a similar result. If only the writer had taken the chance to draw the similarities.

Wouldn't cloning include the genetic alterations of the tissue donor. Because I can't imagine that the machine can distinguish between "natural" genetics and artificial alteration because it will all just look like DNA to it. Though She can't regenerate so maybe the doctor is just simplifying the Time-Lord/Gallifreyan distinction for simplicity's sake? (My personal headcanon is basically the looming thing, but without the Doctor being a reincarnation of the Other because I don't like the idea of the Doctor being anything more than some smart weirdo who travels in a box and likes to help out)

Small correction, assuming Time Lords are genetically modified Gallifreyans, as opposed to being a political or religious caste, than it's still not outside the realms of possibility that a clone or whatever you want to call Smiley McSmileyface could inherit some of those augmentations, unless Time Lords are good at DMR. Doesn't mean the rest of this episode isn't complete shit. I hope Jenny got stabbed by Susan Foreman with a pair of scissors. Incidentally, I've always liked to think that the reason Hartnell's Doctor only had one heartbeat is because he was so physically old, one of his hearts ceased to function.

I agree with the Mistress on how hated this episode is (even I do having never seen classic Doctor Who) however I found one issue was the whole Doctor refuses to use guns part. Ignoring that every Doctor incarnation has their own personality and beliefs, the Doctor had been through the Time War (which from the way he talks about it and info I read about is the equivalent of both world wars on a universal level) which can change his views on using weaponry in contrast to his past versions. Many soldiers who went through such terrifying wars were so traumatized that they can't stand to pick up a gun again and adopt pacifist views. Does that excuse terrible writing though? Hell no I'll go incinerate myself for arguing with you, dear Mistress
@billjacobs5218 жыл бұрын
I agree. In fact, Tennant's entire run had him consistently trying to, well, over-compensate, attempting to save the lives of murderers and lunatics because of his guilt over the Time War. Eccleston too, actually. Of course he would kill if he HAD to, if it was the ONLY way to save the lives of innocents, but to execute an unarmed and restrained man? No, never. That was exactly in character and it makes sense. The only time he openly appears to break this trend was in his last episode, when he takes the gun to stop the Time Lords from returning, precisely to avoid the universal Armageddon he stopped before.
